So what does terry smith do actually? I've seen his name everywhere but all I know is he was the interim head coach? Does he coach a position or is he like the team chaplin?
Both of these seasons were before the portal era, tho. I think if he hauls in at least 8-10 starters from PSU 8 wins is well within reach

Didn't get my hands on Wegdam's film, but I don't think I would have offered Cochrane, frankly. He basically hopped into an angle on his defender but never had any leg drive. I got a full game film of him (Benedictine vs Trinity in the Richmond area private school title game) and was very underwhelmed. Davion Brown was in that game too and Trinity couldn't get him the ball.
French, based on what you know about Franklin so far, what do you think his bread and butter plays will be?
I'd agree the floor should be higher with Franklin than the two previous but the level of talent he is working with is a 3 win team that couldnt beat ODU. The freshman may see heavy playtime depending on the portal which young teams typically are messy and mistake riddled(ala this season).

I can speculate but since I was so off, I don't want to jinx anything. It's all a mental mojo thing. A sprinkle of a Jedi mind trick.
That leaked audio was hilarious, and would be deeply concerning to me if I were I were a Penn State fan. Kraft comes across as a complete joke. Totally unprofessional.
I had the same thought about roster salary management when listening to that tape though. My gut reaction was that Franklin's strategy feels like a necessity at a school that doesn't "recruit itself" like a Bama, OSU, UGA, Oregon, etc. To round out our roster with quality talent, we have to pay everybody. Whereas a more unequal structure could work at the top programs where recruits are willing to sign on for a reasonable shot at a Natty or expectation of a much bigger payday if they become a key contributor.

NC State is part of the UNC system. I'm pretty sure every public university is in the system.

I see it like this. If they are truly a star and have name notoriety to carry that then Triumph or whoever is facilitating NIL should be pushing harder for larger deals there. To date, the most NIL thing I have seen our team have is Drones has recently done some social media for milk.

You dont see our players getting Beats by Dre, shoe deals, other national brands etc. If we really are going to be big boy football this is a piece we need to break through on.

W% wise Jones, Massie, Firth, Morrison, Lueder, Miles, Williams, Reiss, Ingersoll, Bocock, Bernier, Cubbage, Tilson all had 68% or higher win%.

This tournament also differs considerably from all previous WC iterations.
From the, now, 12 groups, the top 2 will advance to the knockout stages
The top 8 third-place finishers will, now, also advance to the knockout stages.
Scenarios for the USA are as follows:
Win Group: Play runner up Group F (Likely Japan)
Runner up: Play winner of Group F (Likely Netherlands)
Third Place: Depends on other 3rd place finishers, but could be Winner Group E (Germany), Winner Group I (France), Winner Group A (Mexico)
Much better than I would have expected them to do at this point.
Still not 100% convinced this is a great fit for either side. PSU wants a guy that is going to beat top 10 teams-- Campbell has clearly established himself as someone who can build a program, but building vs. maximizing aren't really the same skill sets and not everybody has both.
You have to also wonder why he was clearly Penn State's 5th or 6th choice??
From a VT standpoint, I like the matchup of Franklin versus Campbell in recruiting battles. And if Terry Smith now ends up in Blacksburg, we could potentially decimate their Roster in the Portal.
So maybe it's really a better fit than I am giving credit for...PSU could be practically a ground-up rebuild (at least Roster wise) by February.
Surprised I didn't know that. Regardless, the original comment was that journalists come out of the UNC system, as if journalists coming out of any of the 16 universities are functionally identical. I would argue there are probably substantial differences in the ones coming out of the different tiers within the system, and that aligning the universities for that purpose is probably meaningless.
