What makes a good QB? Qualities like athleticism, determination, enthusiasm, size, strength, and competitiveness. Logan Thomas has those.
But there is one trait that is also needed by a QB and this trait is where LT lacks sorely: the ability to avoid mistakes. Due to accuracy and/or poor decisions, he is one mistake-prone guy. And that is the problem. A QB can do great things. But if the QB is mistake prone, it is a wasted effort. All the good stuff gets destroyed through mistakes.
The VT coaching staff has said in no uncertain terms they recognize he is mistake prone. Loeffler said last week he hoped LT would get out of his funk during the Duke game. Beamer said after this game maybe he tries too hard. These guys are not stupid. They know there is a problem. (Evidently LT is the least bad choice which is why they stay supportive.)
If you are as mistake prone as LT, you will not be a top QB. A few mistakes ruins drives, and an entire day of great effort. QBs need to be mistake free first, above all else. The other traits then follow. LT may be athletic, but he fails on the most important trait: keeping mistakes to a minimum.
The LT supporters continue to minimize this issue, or hope in the next game it goes away. But he is a senior, with just a few games left. Mistake prone LT is going to stay mistake prone. I hate to be pessimistic, but I want to be realistic. Just expect the mistakes to continue, regardless of his athleticism. It is who LT is.
