Justin Fuente expects different results despite doing the same thing over and over and over again.

I criticize knowing full well I could never do what these athletes do.

Justin Fuente likes to put the blame on players for not executing fundamentals the coach never taught them

If you can't handle my shit posts, you don't deserve my memes

I'm watching the Liberty - NC State game and the Liberty players are so fundamentally and technically sound. This didn't materialize from antimatter... It was effing coached up by the coaches during practice. Hugh Freeze is a sleaze but he clearly demonstrates what a good coach can do when they coach up and develop players.

Hokie Club member since 2017

These guys have been taught the fundamentals of tackling. Some the guys getting bowled over have been here multiple years. You can gripe all day about play calling, but it's amazing when Bud said this (and he said it many times in his career -"We got to make a play, we have to tackle" type stuff) , it was ok because it was Bud, but because CJF has other issues, we're going to give the kids a break and blame the coaches - who have very little time to work with these kids, especially the D. I'm not buying that.

Bud can say that after he consistently showed he was one of the nation's top defensive coordinators. He developed stars and designed defenses that allowed his guys to succeed (see 2014 OSU). Fuente doesn't have the 20 years of credibility that Bud did. Fuente has "other issues" like failing to consistently succeed, then consistently blaming his players for not executing. I'm going to give the kids a break because they're 18-22 (minus Justus) and doing this for free. Fuente is a grown ass man making millions to do this so there is not a single reason in my mind to shelter him from the well due criticism.

And his criticism is due, don't get me wrong- but this crap that's he passing the buck isn't exactly true. They were in the position to make tackles and failed , multiple times. So the coaching got them in the right place at the right time, yet we couldn't stop them - that's not the coaching, that's executing, and sorry that's on the players. Just b/c the system sucks in terms of them playing for free doesn't automatically give them a free pass. Now you could blame Fu for having to play players that shouldn't be out there or playing out of position. But there is an element of truth that the players have to execute. Fu has a long list of issues , I don't think this is one of them.

Last time I looked, if my daughter went to VT, as an out-of-state student, she/I would be paying more than $31,000 a year for tuition alone. Can people please stop saying things like the players are playing for free or that they are not getting paid. They are getting paid. Nothing like Fuente, of course, but it just bugs me when people keep regurgitating the lie that college athletes at top division universities are not getting paid.

If your job took away your paychecks and instead paid you in philosophy courses, while paying your bosses millions of dollars, how would you feel?

Oh crap, almost forgot, also imagine that your job has the potential for catastrophic injuries--including to the brain!

My job, like college football is voluntary. If I don't like being paid in philosophy courses, I quit and find a job that pays me cash. Nobody is forced to play college football.

But, it is also your right to collectively bargain for increased wages in your current job. Do you have a problem if players collectively decide they aren't being paid enough and demand more? Given that there isn't an alternative employment opportunity for college-age football players who want to monetize their football playing ability, I think it is well within reason for the players to unionize and demand additional compensation.

Get Angry, Bud!

Work is voluntary? Okay, then quit, stay at home, and see how voluntary It actually is.

I quit and find a job that pays me cash

Like, you were so close. If you had just kept reading this comment wouldn't even be necessary.

That said, I understand the argument that the college players feel some obligation to play (regardless of compensation) because it's the most reliable route to the NFL. Most of these kids have dreams of hitting it big in the pros and going through college is the most realistic way to get there. So I can see how people would construe that as players feeling trapped.

But it is still very much a voluntary decision. They get to decide whether or not they want to go to college to pursue their dreams. They get to decide where they go to college to pursue their dreams. They even have the luxury of deciding that maybe this wasn't actually their dream or they have a new dream they would rather pursue instead. One of the great things about our existence is that we all have the ability to make decisions about what pursuits we wish to take and how to take them - and the freedom to change our minds. Does it feel like we have to do some things we don't enjoy sometimes? Sure, but you're still making the choice to do those things. The decision is based on the premise that putting in the work now will pay off later. For some of these players they may realize the payoff isn't worth the effort in the end. But they have the freedom to make that choice for themselves.

It's always darkest before the dawn ~ Thomas Fuller

The point I was making is single jobs are voluntary, work itself is not voluntary. If you've worked your entire life to be a football player and that's your skill, then you don't have the option.

DC is implying that because choice exists between jobs any single job should be able to exploit and treat their workers like shit because "you had the option not to work there". Which of course is completely irrelevant to how the business should treat their workers.

The scenario you offer up is very far from the reality of the situation. If you feel that a VT education is as worthless as a few philosophy classes well, you are entitled to your opinion. I look at it as an opportunity to get a good, solid education at no financial cost to the student. There are other costs in time and risk of injury. There were costs in time and risk of getting hepatitis or HIV when I was working at the hospital while in school as well.

If a student has the talent to play top level football (or any other sport where a full scholarship is given) and they do not want to take advantage of the education part because the don't want to play school, that is on them. If they have the talent to play that sport and they feel it is not worth the risk of getting injured, they can choose to not play the sport and pay for their education like most people do, with savings, work, loans ... it is up to them. If they want to be a true student-athlete who works hard in both areas and takes advantage of both, that is great. Knew a lady on the swim team to was downright inspirational in her work in the pool and in the lab.

But I do take major exception when people keep tossing out the line that student athletes should get paid as if they are not being paid a good deal already. That $31,000+ is tuition only. Add in covered room and board, healthcare, tutoring if needed ... I would not be at all surprised if it is actually closer to $50,000 than $30,000. Then consider that this is all tax free. A non-athlete would probably have to earn $75,000 or more to cover it. That is being paid a very good amount for an 18 or 19 year old.

But at this point in his tenure the team is 100% his guys. It's his coaches and his coaching that has failed to teach our guys how to execute. If the guys already knew how to tackle coming into Tech, then the vast majority of them somehow forgot while at Virginia Tech, then there's obviously something wrong. And while you can blame the players for not playing better I personally don't do because they are kids and by and large they're doing their best. Until they make egregious mistakes ala Marcus Vick stomping on a guy they shouldn't be the target of anyone's blame. Even great teams will have only a few professional level football players on their roster, the vast majority are amateurs and should be treated as such.

Fuente thinks it would be ludicrous to even suggest he should take over play calling from corny

It is. I debated posting it, but decided it was time. It's not a good look, but this is where we are.

So is Fuente's program. The more displeasure we show the more pressure there is to be rid of him.

I think it should be more critical and mature then "hating on"

Recruit Prosim

I get it, Hokie Respect and all that, but we win nothing by taking the high road here. No one is asking us fans for advice on how to coach football, only for support and donations. The more we voice our displeasure, no matter how immature it may be, the more likely we are to be heard by the AD and change the situation. So eff it, what's the worst that can happen? No need to be coy about what's happening here.

You obviously do not tkp that much...

Justin Fuente thinks it's a bad look for his fanbase to criticize him for turning a top 25 program into the laughingstock of the P5 in less than 5 years.

We aren't held in that high of regard to have been reduced to a laughinstock, much less "the" laughingstock.

Justin Fuente doesn't understand how 1 and 2 star recruits don't play to the level of 5 stars when it REALLY matters.

Justin Fuente also thinks recruiting is overrated.

Justin Fuente has dedicated himself to becoming the first College Football coach to succeed without any ability to recruit, an incompetent nincompoop as his OC, and no discernible personality whatsoever.

So far, all he is missing is success.

Justin Fuente hired Brad Cornelson and thinks he did nothing wrong in a loss where we put up 14 points

Shouldn't this just be 'Truthin' on Justin Fuente'???

Justin Fuente "coaches football" at Virginia Tech

Justin Fuente turned a 2-win program into a 10-win one (Memphis), has career earnings north of $20 million at 44 years old, a wife and 3 beautiful daughters, and has never created an internet thread with the purpose of hating on another person.

Wait, dang it... I didn't do that right did I?

Yeah he definitely caught lightning in a bottle in the AAC for 1 year...

Wish he could have a lightning in a bottle season for us

He kinda did - 2016.

Hate to see my VT fellow fans taking the low road in our current situation, but there it is.

Look around that is the way of the world now.

"Hey Bud, you wont have to hold the opponent to 17 points anymore."

You weren't here in beamers twilight years? Fun times

I LOL'ed when I saw this thread was created.

Maybe this is the reverse jinx that enables the team to go undefeated from here on out?

Whatever. It was one bad year.

Seasonal Brew means High ABV for football season and standard the rest of the year.

Justin Fuente thinks miraculously winning the final two games would make us forget about the dumpster fire he's turned the program into.

Oh there is no forgetting, he should be canned at soon as the buyout becomes $10MM, but winning before firing him would be better than losing before firing him.

Whatever. It was one bad year.

Seasonal Brew means High ABV for football season and standard the rest of the year.

At this point we could beat Clemson and UVA and I'd still be ready to kick him to the curb

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

CJF thinks money, better facilities, and a better home locker room would of won the game today. Any fan who backs this moron from here on out is the person at their job that does nothing, is hated by all co-workers and then wonders why they get fired.

I can't Hate. But I'm closer to MEH than I have been in 25 years.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

I'm not going to participate but I did laugh when I saw this thread pop up lol

Fuente's performance speaks for itself. He has repeatedly told us who he is. Whit should listen.

He's Cam Cameron with an ethnic last name.

He's Al Golden without the tie.

Al Golden got fired from Miami after getting waxed 58-0 by Clemson 👀👀

Of course, we have Clemson next

Justin Fuente thinks our game against Clemson will be that close.

I feel a deep disturbance in the force, this will end badly...

Joe, is this what you want your site to be?

It's one thing to have opinions, it's another to be outright petty. Grow up, Hokies.

It seems more tongue-in-cheek than petty to me, a play on a popular TKP meme. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If by popular you mean 25 people retelling the same tired jokes then yes, it is "popular".

I know this is the Internet, but I think you can still have some standards of decency. This thread is a bad look. I'm ashamed to be a Hokie fan today and not because of the Pitt loss. I thought we were better than this.

Then go start your own website and cry about it there. I don't have time for this bullshit today. Thanks.

What bullshit exactly?

A ridiculous thread gets started, I call the community on it, I get downvoted. THATS bullshit.

I didn't downvote you, but complaining will make things far worse.

This is a community governed website. Joe did make this thread, but I also doesn't violate ANY community guidelines (at the moment). And if you can watch yesterday's post game and not think that Fuente deserves some shade throw at him, then I don't know what to tell you. Only kids do you pat on the back and say it will be better next time. Not coaches making millions a year.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

Let me answer for Joe:

The bullshit of white knighting for Fuente or anyone else over an obvious joke.

You know that pretty much nobody on these threads truly hates any other coach, much less Fuente.

But you decide that somehow today you must take things at their most literal, and moralize to the community for it.

In short:

Yeah deep down Fireman loves Rich Rod

Good Fuente impression

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." - K

When there hasn't been a fam thread or one shred of decent football in weeks things can get a bit weird. Honestly don't see what's wrong with it, it's better than 5 different fuente needs to be canned threads

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

You reap what you sow.

When your choice as a HC is to maintain a consistently contentious relationship with the media and fans, you are asking to be ridiculed.

When you suggest that it is "ludicrous" to ask if there are plans to replace an OC who calls a QB power on 3rd&26 on the heels that play getting stuffed for nothing twice on a previous drive and when getting 6-8 yds might give you a shot at at least getting a reasonable FG attempt, you are asking for ridicule.

Fans need some catharsis from 5 years of this. Many fans have not only invested time and energy but significant amounts of money into VT Football, only to be shutout and shutoff from the Program.

There's a limited amount of sympathy I can feel for a guy that is on the verge of an 8 figure payday particularly when he chooses to maintain a stance of utter standoffishness. I feel bad for the fans that have donated hundreds or even thousands of dollars to this Program each year to maintain Season Ticket and Hokie Club status.

I would argue that a thread name on a message board (that btw I highly doubt Fuente even knows what TKP is) that has been joked about for weeks for the lulz is not detrimental in the same way that fan apathy is.
Fan apathy means not watching the game, not donating, not spending money in other ways.... this is what turned UVA football into LOLUVA football through 2017....
Meanwhile VT has its hand out for the keep jumping fund and drive for 25 campaign to get to 25,000 hokie club members. Something Whit is so thirsty for that VT literally paints it on the field.

If you can carve out your Saturday to watch that product, be emotionally invested enough to donate, and not want to vent--- then I tip my cap to you. You are a better man than I.

Hokie Club member since 2017

In all seriousness, the ability to post a thread like this is why I'm here at TKP instead of somewhere else. Here, we can have a (sometimes very) humorous take and discussion, where other places its all serious all the time. Without this ability and community I doubt I would be a TKPC member.

Justin Fuente has recruited exactly zero Fullers in five years.

Lmao at the pearl-clutching in here, a true UVA-esque display of our fanbase being soft

I'm....sorry? Should our fan base tough it out and not say anything at all as we watch our program that many of us donate our time/money toward become a laughing stock across the country?
