Thanks again for keeping us all up to date on this! It is very much appreciated.

Another Ball brother lets go!

Wow....that Lavar really gets around

Alex Karaban to UConn, for those following. Made some noise about a VT visit last month, but never scheduled.

Also, unrelated side note- new Big Board dropping tomorrow for a VT target that makes a lot of sense for both parties.

Haven't heard from Chandler Jackson for a minute, but this is certainly how we like getting reacquainted!

Jackson got a huge ratings bump in 2021 into the 247 top 60. You can read more of our May discussion on him here.

6' 8" 230 lbs High School Junior!? 😳

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

Visit is set for September 10, same weekend as Noah Clowney.

Academics a big part of Virginia Tech

"They have really good academics," Lubin said. "They could really benefit me, inside or outside of sports. Academics are a huge part of them, and they have a good basketball program as well. It's really another school I want to see for myself to see if they're a good fit for me."

BIG BIG BIG visitor looking at his calendar:

[Noah] Clowney is also planning to take official visits to Florida and Virginia Tech the first two weeks of September.

He'll also take an OV to Indiana.
Clowney is in my top tier of guys we have a shot with this class. 6-9, 205 4-star PF out of Dorman HS in SC. Got a nice and well-deserved rankings bump over the summer: #55 overall on Rivals, #75 in the 247 composite. Clowney possesses the size and athleticism we will need when Aluma and Mutts leave. Easy bet to make an instant impact.

I think I seen a updated aize for him somewhere. It was 6'11 225

I'm sure his h/w on 247 is pretty old. It's probably closer to that than what they have listed.

According to this source, Clowney is visiting Blacksburg Sept. 11 (presumably 10-12 since that's a Saturday) and Florida Sept. 4. That would put as as the last OV *currently* scheduled, which I like a lot.

Trey Green. 2023 PG (5-10, 155) out of Mooresville, NC.

Hard to find a player who can stay in front of Trey Green. With blazing speed and quickness coupled with an elite pull-up game, Green's game is suited for the high major level. His size at 5-foot-9 brings a lot of doubt, but it all should go out the window as he is lightning quick, can score, and make his teammates better while in the process of doing so.

Also friends with MJ Collins, so that can't hurt ;)

I live 5 min from his HS here in Mooresville. Guess this means the family is going to some Lake Norman HS games in full VT gear!

Guess it does! You should be in for a show- nice handles, good change of direction and speed, quick hands and feet, creates space for himself despite his size. Excited to see him progress! Sophomore highlights.

Another of Lavar's boys?

Great stroke out to NBA range. Great catch and shoot off screens with quick release. Seems like a guy who would be great fit under MY

From Baltimore Poly to Virginia Polytechnic? That sounds good to me!

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

Also a pipeline to Long Beach Poly wouldn't hurt

Date is set. 2022 true PG Bryce Lindsay will be visiting Blacksburg October 1 through 3.

"I'm looking to commit sometime next month or early October," he continued. "I'm going to be looking to figure out what college is going to prepare me for the next level, player development, where the college is located, coaching staff, and who's showing the most interest in me."

Long relationship there. One to watch closely. Solid wing prospect, would love to play in ACC.

Ah so that's who Webbie was with at the Chapel this morning.

Denzel Aberdeen 2022 SG (6-4, 175) out of Dr. Phillips in Orlando has VT in his Top 8 with Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Iona, Florida, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, and Ole Miss.

True PG Sean Jones appears to have committed to Marquette per his Instagram. Took a visit to Blacksburg in June.

Grid updated to reflect Radford transfer. Interested to see if this impacts Keith Williams's transfer calculus at all.

It sucks, but I'm glad it's done. It will force us to focus on just how good Darius Maddox is and how he may be primed to make a big impact on the court this year. Remember- he saw severely limited minutes last season, only shot the ball about one time per appearance, and in the one game where he played 9 minutes (against Coppin St), he was a perfect 3/3 from long range, finishing 3-for-4 from the field with 9 points.

Didn't make the Top 8 for 2023 PG Caleb Foster (Team Curry w MJ Collins). Not terribly surprised once that Duke offer came in.

cross-posted with the WBB post bc this does help our bball staff:

For real, no joke- please go show this guy some love. Twitter, Insta. Positive vibes only, as always. IU Twitter bots are out in force. RT, RT this article and tag him, leave an Insta comment, whatever you have a minute to do.

2024 offer out to 6-6 DeMatha forward AJ Swinton after a visit. It's early, but I expect AJ to continue to develop into a very good high-major prospect. No 247 profile yet, but he's already listed on at least one national Top 50 list.

Side note: 2023 SG Jacoi Hutchinson, who also holds a VT offer, will be transferring from DeMatha to play at IMG next season.

Cameron Corhen just got a CB for Illinois. Was recruited by Frazier at Tech and everything I've seen since then suggested he'd be where Frazier is.

Maybe the guy who most easily passes the knee-jerk eye test in 2023 (along with Evan Ramsey) is Carter Lang out of STAB. Visited VT unofficially today.

The crushed ball is a nice touch.

These new unis?

They look fresher than normal.

Straight shot down 81 for his parents to attend games.

Even more reason to be loud and proud on September 3. Even if you don't like CJF, do it for CMY to show these recruits what Hokie Nation is all about.

Real quick- just want to say thank you to you guys for being cool. If you read other basketball boards, you find a lot of badmouthing and sneering at other "lesser" programs. I'm really glad we're not about that here. Each of these recruits is different. They vibe different in different places with different people, and they're making the biggest decisions of their lives. Anyway, thank you again, keep being the light, and PVO.

And a THANK YOU for being cool and keeping the relevant info coming and timely. This has been one my check-first threads lately.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Seriously, the amount of research and effort that goes into keeping tabs on all these recruits and their recruitment is incredible, and the presentation by Wartooth is easily high-quality enough to go behind a paywall somewhere. I'm just glad it's here and it's free.

I concur and appreciate it. It takes a significant amount of time and am glad Wartooth has carried the ball. I have been swamped with new job and my small business so kudos to Wartooth on keeping these up to date and insightful.

Braden Huff is returning to Blacksburg for another visit.

The multi-faceted 6-10 forward will officially visit Virginia Tech for the second time. Huff took a trip to Blacksburg in June and will return the first weekend of September.

Coach Mike Young and his staff have been all in on Huff for quite some time and have built a relationship that earned the Hokies a second official visit to the ACC school.

Huff will be in town for the UNC game with Rodney Rice and Tyler Nickel, which will be ENORMOUS.

The flip side is Huff will also be taking a visit to Gonzaga and a return trip to Wisconsin. This one is far from over.

Read more of our discussion about Braden Huff here.

From Illinois, unless he is tired of the cold, I don't like going toe to toe with Wiscy here.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

VT makes the Final 5 for 2022 Pheonix PF Elijah Saunders (6-8, 220).

Virginia Tech: "It is kind of interesting because he was at my game and when the opportunity presented itself, I played well. I like the school a lot. Mike Young just won the ACC Coach of the year. They have really good forwards and bigs that can shoot and play off the dribble. From what they have shown, they have a lot of versatile guys and I feel I can be that as well."

Starting this weekend, Saunders will start his visit tour to all five programs that made the cut. Eyeing to sign early in November, Saunders says he hopes to make his decision by mid-October.

Happy Monday morning! BIG weekend coming up. Get in the mood with a new WBB featuring a guy I put in my top tier on first view, Braden Huff.

This dude has one hell of an offer list. West Virginia and A&M didn't even make the top seven.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

criminally underevaluated, as the offer list suggests

(UPDATED) Wessler has set OVs:
Providence, Sept. 10
Virginia Tech, Sept. 16-18
USC, Sept. 24-26
NC State, Oct. 1-3
Ole Miss, Oct. 8-10

If NC State gets Shawn Philips, which could happen soon, that would take them out of the running. Don't sleep on Ole Miss

Top 10 for 2022 CG Chandler Jackson

Felt like a hometown Memphis lean previously, but the Hokies are getting a visit next month.

Virginia Tech: "Coach [Mike] Young really established himself in the ACC. Him and coach [Kevin] Giltner have established a good relationship recruiting me and then the opportunity I would have there playing point guard and just working to get better."

Wow, he does it all. Serious hustler, defends, rebounds, blocks shots and passes.

WOAH 7 Footer!

Is that even allowed??

Don't think so.

Go Hokies!!

VT had a 7 footer when I was there in the late 1960's. But he was slow and lazy and couldn't shoot. Signing a 7 footer is easy. Finding one that can actually play basketball is the challenge. I hope Wessler is a real basketball player.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

The last guy that close to 7'0" that I remember was Gene Swindle, who ended up at JMU after a year. I have two distinct memories: 1) was a guy saying he transferred from the ACC so he must be good (boy was he wrong), and 2) watching a bunch of drunk JMU students chant "Gene Machine" every time he checked into the game.

I think Robert Krabbendam was a 7'footer.

He dated a friend of my wife's, who was 5'1

The moonshot is still alive as Top 50 prospect Eric Dailey, Jr. continues to mention the Hokies as pushing in his recruitment:

"That relationship is good as well. Coach Jones, who's recruiting me right now actually coached me my freshman year of high school at USA trials. I've known him since freshman year so that connection has always been there and he's seen my game. He's been good people since we met so that relationship there is strong and he's a great person and I'll definitely consider going to his school."

As we've discussed previously, Dailey is a big-time target with an eye-popping pedigree, and the relationship with Mike Jones is what's opened the door for Tech. No visit has been scheduled yet, and there are certainly programs like Michigan who have points working in their favor, but the chatter around VT and Dailey has been hanging around in the air for months now. As I've said before, if the Mikes get a shot with Dailey, they're going to make a lasting impression, at the very least.

Hmm. Who do you think wants you the most and is going to respect you? The team sending the assistant, or the head ball coach coming to town?

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Not only that, but we just had Giltner down there only a little while ago. Now the HC is sitting down with the family ahead of an official visit this weekend. VT's staff has been in constant contact with Chandler ever since he was an underrated 3-star on a Zoom meeting in May.

EDIT: meant as a reply to 07Hokie, above

Mike Jones stopped by the Pace Academy in Atlanta to watch workouts and reunite with longtime friend and colleague, head coach Sharman White (hashtag relationships). Coach White was expected to be Jones's assistant with the USA Basketball U16 team again, but when Jones took the VT AHC position, White was tapped to wear the whistle.

Pace is currently home to:
2022 3-star SF Josh Reed (6-6, 195, no VT offer yet, Top 5 of Cincy, South Carolina, Butler, Northwestern, and BC)
2024 PG Kyle Greene (6-2, 170, no VT offer yet, offers from Clemson, LSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Texas A&M)

4-star Ft. Lauderdale PF Gregg Glenn will announce his commitment on October 4. Hokies are listed in his Top 5 along with Michigan, Georgia, Iona, and USF. Visited Michigan this past weekend.

Interested to see how this affects Eric Dailey's recruitment.

Seems he would have committed to UM shortly after visit (?) I'm guessing we are a long shot.

'Its easy to grin, when your ship comes in, and you've got the stock market beat,
but the man worthwhile, is the man who can smile, when his shorts are too tight in the seat'

I believe it's the only official visit he's taken, and he's been mentioned heavily in connection with Michigan, like Dailey.

EDIT: Pretty quiet on the Dailey front. Still talk about him going pro. Michigan's attention appears to be elsewhere for now. They only have a couple of spots left and one of those will go to Jett, Juwan Howard's son. The next week or two will clear up a lot of questions for pretty much every program.

Missed this a couple of days ago, but staff (presuming Mike Jones, at least) was in to observe at Bishop O'Connell. I'm guessing he/they were there to watch 2022 3-star PG Paul Lewis, 6-1, 165 (decommitted from Maryland in June, do not see that he holds a VT offer yet).

We had staff "in recently" for 2022 SF Darren Buchanan out of Woodrow Wilson HS in DC. Not seeing where he has a Tech offer, but I do know he was the best rebounder on his EYBL team, Team Durant, which featured Top 5 national recruit/current Duke commit Dariq Whitehead and... Rodney Rice.

If you will indulge me a moment...

Things are happening away from TKP that may result in changes for yours truly. Nothing bad or worrisome. I may not be posting/updating here as regularly in the near future, so I would appreciate you guys picking up the slack when you can. I feel like we all have given TKP a shot in the arm re: basketball recruiting coverage over the last several months, and in order for Virginia Tech to continue building on its basketball success under Mike Young, we're going to need a strong online presence from our fans over multiple platforms. This isn't goodbye. Just a heads up :) PVO

Thanks Wartooth. I hope you're able to get out on parole early for good behavior. Post on TKP whenever they let you have internet access.

an update

I have agreed to join 247 as a hoops writer. I will still pop in from time to time to weigh in where I can, but I wanted to post a sincere "thank you" to all of you who have enjoyed what I've brought to TKP over the year. It took up a lot of my free time, but I enjoyed it, and I'm gratified so many of you did, as well.

I would appreciate it if someone would post an October Hoops Recruiting thread in my absence. Again, part of building a respected basketball program is having an active online community of passionate, supportive fans who share information and represent the university in the best light. I'm so happy we've started building that at TKP.

Be the light! Positive Vibes Only!

Congratulations. You are good at what you have done here and as the Joker said, "if you're good at something, never do it for free."

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

The number of folks over the last several months who said something like, "you've made me pay attention to basketball" or "I feel like I know the basketball program better than before" has been very heart-warming. We have a terrific staff who I believe is going to do great things at VT. They deserve the love they're getting. Thank you (all) for letting me part of your journey.

Congrats and thank you

Congrats on the gig and thanks so much for all the content over the years you've given a fresh take on bball and the recruiting side as well. Hopefully we will still see ya here and there as a filthy casual like the rest of us at least in the fam threads when we win the ACC this season

Fun fact on Patrick Wessler, lead recruiter for NC State was James Johnson.

I am glad he got another job in the coaching world. He was not ready for the big whistle and it showed. He tried hard, but it was not working out.

Van-Lubin did an interview after his Clemson, has narrowed his list to Clemson Georgia tech Virginia tech and Notre Dame. He's looking to make a decision mid November
