Ask TKP: What's one thing you're looking forward to for Tech's 2021 football season?

It took me a little longer than usual to get amped for college football season, but I'm counting down the days now. What's one thing that has you excited about this Hokies' squad?

1a) Football
1b) Turning off SEC games

My people. I missed my tailgating family a lot last year and I'm looking forward to being back in Lot 18 again (hopefully).

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Dreaming that Whit lets the band break out stick it in again for the Carolina game which we proceed to win convincingly....

the young/new faces in the defensive secondary and how they can contribute or make the leap from last year.

harvey, stroman, strong and jenkins could be an exciting defensive foundation for the next few years

I am most looking forward to seeing Lane Stadium rocking with 'Enter Sandman" and to hear the announcers in awe at the enthusiasm of the fans. I want to see that all game long at every home and away game. I want to see our Hokies steamroll everyone they face this year and make every football fan wish they were a Hokie.

Ut Prosim Ad Dei Gloriam

seeing Lane Stadium rocking

You're more optimistic than me. Exponential growth of new cases + 30 days + public resistance to measures to right the ship = I'll be shocked if we have fans in the stands

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Sigh, yeah

Things are starting to lock down quick again. My return to office just got delayed from the first week of September to the mid/end of October and they've rolled back all relaxations of masking policies. NC State just mandated masks for all people on campus 24/7, and it really just feels like how it did right before the bottom fell out last year.

At this point I'll be pleasantly surprised if the CDC allows large gatherings a month from now. Just seems inevitable that we are back to lockdown by the time the weather starts to cool down.

I can't wait to get to Blacksburg bright and early and spend the day hanging out with the fam then feeling the football energy, jumping to Enter Sandman and just having fun.

The improved passing game that CJF feels so good about, and a defense that knows where it supposed to be on every play.

I like that when you look at the projected roster, there is a ton of experience. This team has the making of one of those tight groups that surprise. I hope the depth holds up.

Keeping the Commonwealth Cup and Black Diamond Trophy in Blacksburg, where they belong!

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

Oh not much, just...
Tarnishing the Tarheels,
Rocking the Raiders,
Mashing the Mountaineers,
Slapping the Spiders,
Imploding the Irish,
Punishing the Panthers,
Obliterating the Orange,
Yanking the Yellow Jackets,
Eliminating the Eagles,
Beating the Blue Devils,
Hammering the Hurricanes,
and, of course, CRUSHING the Cavs.
And maybe afterwards,
Torpedoing the Tigers,
Blasting the Buckeyes,
and Creaming the Crimson Tide.

As long as we do that, the rest will work itself out.

That would definitely cover the high points.

This needs to go plaid!

Creaming the Crimson Tide

Not sure I can get on board with the phrasing of this one....

I was also struggling a little with

Yanking the Yellow Jackets,

Maybe Crushing the Crimson Tide would be better!

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

All good - except....Yanking the Yellow Jackets? Ew...

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

Well, our tailgate has decided to not be a thing anymore. So, I'm looking forward to seeing what we come up with for a new one.
And I want to take my son to a game this year. I got him to one, before he turned one. Going to put an asterisk on last year and claim he's gone to a game every year since birth with at least one game this season.

You can always come visit us in Lot 18. We have lots of food and fun.

We're paper-thin but I honestly believe the starting 11 on both sides of the ball can compete with anyone in the country.

Now this is what I'm talking about. Attainable goals.

I too, can't wait for chicken wings.

Sitting down with my kids to watch some games. We don't have tickets to Lane anymore but still love watching every game we can at home.

Previous Challenges: Star Wars (2019), Marvel (2020)

I'm ready to see JHam's defense with a full season of preparation and hopefully some healthy bodies at the starting positions. Last year the D was not good not matter how you sliced it, but I really believe we'll see a big turnaround this year.

I came here to say this as well. Defense with time to learn and practice the system with the full squad available.

I'm excited to hopefully see Fuente turn the corner and keep us afloat through his bad recruiting classes and the lack of depth it has created, or I'm excited to see us move on

So many unknowns about this team (Defense, QB, RB, OL, WR) - I'm just curious to see what happens!

I'm also excited about our 2022 recruiting class - something I haven't been able to say in 3+ years.

Twitter me

I thought we had some positive moments against Clemson and a really solid game against the Hoos. Im looking forward to carrying that momentum into this season and proving the world wrong.

Fans in the stands across CFB in general. The atmosphere of the game is what I love about CFB.
Defense with time to prepare this year.
I am really looking forward to see BB after the hype we are starting to hear about him.

A healthy Burmeister and an offense that has had a clear cut #1 QB during offseason prep, and a Defense that has had a year to fully install a scheme, workout together, and get fuming mad about the missed opportunities for which they need to seek revenge.

1. Seeing the Hokies in person again. 1A. The end result. This is it for Fu. Put up or shut up time, no excuses. Mook Reynolds and Tim Settle leaving unexpectedly and high school coaches spreading rumors about Bud Foster are long gone. Vegas style facilities have been addressed. You hired every one of these coaches. You recruited every one of these players. Let's see "it".

Oh there will be excuses

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

yes, but 6 years in they will be just that- excuses. Which get multi million dollar coaches fired.

The allure is not knowing at all what is coming, even with all of this great analysis, content, and speculation.

Plz Hokies.

The inevitable argument my wife and I will get into when we have a 3:30 kick-off...which means our kids' dinner/bath/bedtime routine coincides perfectly with the 4th quarter...and I get yelled at for not helping out. Always fun!

Kids get a waiver to eat junk and go to bed dirty late when the Hokies are on.

Oh no....this is my first football season as a father and I just realized that timing clash

VT '17

I dealt with it the last two years. I chose to help with bedtime.

My suggestion: spring for YoutubeTV for a few months. Then you can just pause the game and resume when the kiddos are down. Or if you already have DVR, you don't really have an issue.

I record the game and go full phone blackout until after the kids go to bed. Also means I don't have to watch my language during the game. The boy is getting old enough I might start to get him interested, but I will have to keep one eye on the game and then other on him when he inevitably gets bored with it.

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

Quoting Ralphie May: "TiVo will save your relationship."

"Those who jump into the void owe no explanation to those who stand and watch."

Pretty much every watching option available (cable, DirectTV, streaming, etc.) has a way to pause what you are watching. If you have any type of DVR available you can record the entire game, and fast forward through commercials and/or halftime if you pause it for a while.

As another poster recommended, I have YouTubeTV and with the unlimited DVR I have it set up to record every VT football game. I also turn off the phone, take about 30-45min to take care of anything that might interrupt the game, and then start it so I can fast forward through all of the bullshit.

After what we've all dealt with this last year and a half, just being in Lane again with family, friends, and Hokies everywhere is gonna be awesome really looking forward to that opening game versus UNC

Go for it

I'm ready to see Burmeister ball out. He showed a glimpse of what he could do against UVA and now I want to see him play like that all season.

It's Time to go to Work

1. Burmeister. The version we got of him in UVA and Clemson is what I think we can expect this season except he has gotten stronger and maybe even faster.
2. A defense that actually had a spring and should have an uninterrupted fall camp to really learn the system.
3. Alan Tisdale at 228 lbs.
4. Finally getting to see Payoute (fingers crossed).
5. Devon Hunter finally getting his chance.
6. For whatever reason, Fuente seems to do well with back against the wall. 2018 UVA and Marshall, 2019 post-Duke, 2020 UVA game. This entire season, his back will be against the wall. Frank was given four seasons of subpar play before being advised to retire. This would be year four for Fuente.
7. Beating WVU in Morgantown.

Just being back in Lane on Sept. 3....I have no idea what this season will bring (though I am somewhat optimistic), but I know that stadium is going to be electric on opening night.

Actually will probably be cheering them on while holding my breath all season that BB doesn't get hurt because then the Fuente Train would derail and we will become the ACC's version of Tennessee. Since somehow we are now all in on BB, PLEASE stay healthy all season BB.

In summary, I think we Hokies fans are in the proverbial tunnel praying this season is the light at the end of the tunnel and not a train coming the other way.
