This Many People Attended UVa's 2015 Spring Game

Football was played in Charlottesville and some fans were there to witness it.

[Danny Neckel (@DNeckel19)]

Virginia football held its annual Orange-Blue spring game at Scott Stadium, Saturday. A summary of the affair: the 'Hoos are are still a (perpetual) work in progress.

Some people attended the event.

Richmond Times-Dispatch reporter Mike Barber estimated a crowd of 3,000 - 4,000.

FOX Sports Jacquie Franciulli also captured the crowd.

The Hoo's spring game had similar turnouts in 2014, 2013 and 2012.

According to that article UVa must have some serious depth on their defense. Much deeper than us. Tenuta said his goal for the spring is to find a "viable 3 deep at each position"

Proper mentality for their season:

So you're saying (margin of victory) > (number of fans in attendance)...

"Exit light..."

Because at UVA, everybody gets a trophy!

All of a sudden, I found myself in love with the world

There is no better summary of LOLUVA football than this.

To be fair, we will only have 3-4,000 at our spring game...2 hours after the game, still tailgating

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Yeah...I'd even take the over on that, too.

I was going to post this as a forum topic, but seeing one already, I'll just add it here.

Yes, LOLUVA's annual rite of spring has officially come and gone. Yesterday's Orange and Blue spring football follies were held yesterday evening. This is a big change from previous years, when the event was held during the day. The smartest guys in the administration offices had an epiphany of sorts last year when several athletic administrators found themselves at a UVA baseball game and figured out that someone needed to be at the football stadium because the spring game was taking place at the same time. Hence, the Littlepaige, Caruthers & Smithers braintrust came up with the brilliant idea of moving the spring football game to the evening, after the other various athletic events of the day. "Why, it likely will ensure that we will have a great number in attendance!" Caruthers is rumored to have said.

Well, lets see how that worked out for them. The photo below was taken by a guy I know that was there. Look! See how dozens (Yes! Dozens!!) of fans packed.....well...more like littered...the stands! Why, compared to last year, I'm sure that attendance surely increased by ...oh...ten to fifteen people! (Hey, when we're talking percentage here, it's a pretty impressive number!) I understand that the east stands were not as crowded as the west stands that are shown below. And a good thing, too! The UVA band needed almost one-fourth of a whole section! The picture at the top of the page illustrates this. The band is the tiny section of orange on the lower left of the picture.

And what of those guys in orange and blue milling around on the field, you ask? Oh that's the glorious wahoo football squad, of course! The orange was supposedly offense, and the blue defense, with QB's in white. It is presumed that this is because none of them wanted to be mistakenly associated with the offense, which is understandable, of course. The quarterbacks collectively completed under 50% of their passes, unless you count the grass as a receiver, in which case the completion percentage goes WAY up. Rumor has it that the offensive coordinator, Steve Fairchild, is petitioning the NCAA to do just that, and make passes completed to the turf an official stat. He was probably too busy getting the petition paperwork in order after the spring game yesterday, since he did not meet with the media.

The final score was a bit confusing yesterday. Some media outlets reported it as 20-7, and others as 14-13, citing confusion amongst the official scorers. Perhaps it is because the official scorers don't see too many wahoo scores, and they don't know how to report them. For the record I'm told the final scoreboard read Home 13 Away 14. This apparently proves that LOLUVA can't even win their own spring game.

I also heard that when the ''game'' was over, both squads still had three time outs.

well, both sides iced the kicker with 3 consecutive timeouts on their respective first drives, so they had to give them more. It worked though, those punters shanked the ball pretty hard.

I was thinking something about white flags of surrender, but yours is better.

Those are some dedicated Wahoos that went to that mess. I thought I knew the most die hard 'Hoos of them all and none of them would even consider going. Has there ever been a more Lame Duck than London?

The real question is, how many timecops were present on the field?

Interesting because there were 6,000 fans at the Spring Game. That is a pretty good turnout for a UVa spring football game.

It looked like we might have had more than that at the scrimmage last Saturday, and honestly those aren't super well advertised.

The thread title says "football" was played at Charlottesville. That is a term that should be used loosely. I mean, if VT wasn't visiting then HOO exactly was playing "football" in Charlottesville?

Unless its been changed since Whit took over, you're not supposed to throw anything around at the tailgates. Plenty of people still do it, as they should, it's a tailgate. That however is (or was) the policy and I've seen it enforced.

Anyone see attendance numbers for our spring game?

23,000 was the number I saw released by VT.

that's only like 6 or 7 times as many fans as LOLUVA had...I blame the weather

Onward and upward

Absolutely blame the weather. As for the numbers, a knowledgeable fan and friend of mine who's been to enough games to be reliable told me that he thought around 8-10,000 people were actually in the stands. I would be interested in other folks' estimations. If the weather had been comparable at the loluva game, I'm pretty sure both of the fans would have bagged it.

yep. I could have only swung it if I could have taken my 4 year old son (he actually enjoyed the spring game last year). No way that was gonna go well with the weather we had.

Any truth to the rumor that the Orioles are having UVa Fan Appreciation Day at Camden Yards this afternoon?

Edit: Seriously, nobody corrected me on Camden Park? For shame...
