Hokies in the Pros
Since I'm sure most of you don't have time to Google every single player on Andy Bitter's list, here's an update on how every Hokie is doing in camp thus far:
James Anderson, Patriots: Anderson signed a one year, $950,000 contract with New England this off season. He's projected to fill an apparently much needed role as a coverage linebacker on passing downs. Barring injury and assuming he plays up to expectations in the preseason, he will most likely make the Patriots' 53-man roster.
Danny Coale
The Steelers waived Danny Coale injured today and signed another wide receiver from the Pittsburgh Arena Football team.

how the sec matches up against ranked opponents
My friend from SC posted this and I found it really interesting that they've had the most success against ranked opponents in the conference.
Also! I'd like to point out that Georgia's record is about as bad as ours against top 10 as is Missouri and several other schools.

Michael Brewer's Transfer due in part to Chad Morris
I found this bit interesting in my twitter feed this morning:
New #Hokies QB Michael Brewer spoke to assembled VT media for first time just now. Came off as very polished, determined.— Hokies Journal (@HokiesJournal) August 6, 2014
David Wilson Appreciation
In light of the terrible news about David Wilson, I thought it appropriate to have a David Wilson appreciation thread where we can share our best/favorite memories of one of the best backs to ever wear the O&M. It can be anything - favorite play (VT or pro), some kind of personal interaction with him, favorite sound bite, etc. He's one of my favorite Hokies and I'm sure many of you feel the same, so let's honor him with as many comments as possible. Shoot, with the way TKP has blown up (congrats on the press creds!) maybe the thread can get back to him and give him something to smile about.
Flight to Columbus from Blacksburg area
Saw a tweet a few days ago that there were flights for students to columbus that were only like $126 roundtrip. Anyone remember seeing anything about that or have a link? Tried to backtrack but couldn't find anything. Trying to get to Columbus to see us beat the Buckeyes.

Other First Practice Notes
Hey all
I crammed a bunch of stuff into my recap of the team's first practice, but there are a few things I wanted to get in there that didn't really fit.
When the media asked Beamer about the news that David Wilson would be hanging it up, he said he hadn't heard that he was officially retiring from the game, and seemed pretty down about it.
Team Infographic
There's some really neat stuff in this.

Dirty Martellus Bennett Body Slams Kyle Fuller (LINK)
Kyle Fuller went to make a play at Bears practice on Monday and Martellus Bennett took offense and body slams him. ESPN is reporting he has been fined and suspended for conduct detrimental to the team.
No need for stuff like this. He could have seriously injured Kyle who is playing extremely well for the Bears and a key cog for their secondary this year.

David Wilson Write Up
Great article describing David Wilson, the football player and the person.
Going to miss watching him play!

FSU Partially Pays for Winston's Insurance Policy
Jameis put out a 10 Million dollar Insurance Policy in case of injury. There is a Student Assistant Fund that other teams including FSU have used to help protect highly rated players. For example Texas A&M used it on and O-Line and with that he decided to return to school for his senior year. I get the point that it is trying to help the player come back and finish his education with taking some risk out if he gets hurt. IMO its like paying for a player to stay and win except he doesn't receive any of the $ unless he falls out of top 10 or gets injured like Latimore of South Carolina
2014-15 Schedule Predictions
Preseason Camp is here, and over on my home forums as I'll call them (The Something Awful Forums), I tend to start the preseason predictions thread. That's expansive to include any posters' teams, given the TKP's Hokie appropriate focus, I figured this would be a good time to start thinking about the schedule and for me to get some perspective on how we think our Hokies will fair against it. I certainly wouldn't dismiss predictions for other teams though and if y'all want to break it out for more than just our Hokies I'm prepped and ready for that.
