Hatin' On: William Swinney

Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.

Fire Marve. Absolutely terrible coach. Fire him today.
Bowen coached himself a hell of a game and didn't deserve this result. 21-3 lead choked away by some of the worst collective defensive play that VT has seen since Bud retired.
Flat out unacceptable. Marve has to go. He's completely in over his head. A first year coaching staff abused him today.
Inexcusably awful game and clock management week after week after week after week. We will never win close games when our coach spots the other team multiple scores a game.
*Note from the author: despite my efforts to get one of these done every week, I'm in a very busy time in my life so I may not be able to finish out the year. I get married before the Duke game and that is consuming a lot of my time and energy. Below is an abridged version write up on the Georgia Tech game and my advanced preview of Syracuse.
Last weekend we went through our annual Maroon Effect, and I know I have said it before, but I just can't let this go...
This should be our field design every week of the season. Maroon VT in the middle of the field, maroon wordmarks in the end zone. It just looks right. It just looks so much better, and stands out so much more against the white field markers than the white logo and wordmarks.
I'll go one step further and say we need to paint the end zones maroon with white text. It would look perfect:
An article from 2018 I ran across that I thought would interest TKPers Seeing stars: 247Sports, Rivals, and ESPN star-rating systems explained
Got Jax St at Liberty and Kennesaw St at Western Kentucky tonight
Jax and Bibberty is a pretty decent game so far.
Kennesaw St coach playing scared. Had several 4th and short over midfield down multiple scores and punted each of them.
#Hokies coach Brent Pry is here for his weekly presser. Said Bhayshul Tuten is probable this week. "He's a tough guy."Said Xavier Chaplin is also probable, dealing with a shoulder and got leg-whipped last week. Probably the best injury news VT could have gotten.โ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) October 29, 2024
All things considered, this is about the best possible news we could have heard today. Glad to hear both players are fine.
Fran Brown anagrams to Fan Brr Now, which fits because it's cold in Syracuse.
Last year a posted a week of my rankings that I have ran for about 20 years now (and correctly picked the BCS national champ in all but 1 year).
Well i went to run out this weekend and Peter Wolfe has not updated his site, which is where i got the data from.
So i spent a few hours making it work with espn (and cleaning up some code), but it's slow. I have to hit multiple pages and fo more complex finds using beautiful soup. The is very noticeably slower than the regex used to parse Peter Wolfe's site. Also parsing the teams/conference affiliations is a pain because they have the mascots attached.
FAM!
We won, but... Man, our offense was putrid. Defense and special teams played mostly well. We're fortunate gt isn't very good.
This was exactly the type of performance that Shelton wrote about. The coaches can point to the win and say we're fine but the fact is our team just isn't good.
I thought I'd take a look at our upcoming schedule to see how our opponents stack up, defensively against Virginia Tech's ground assault. Is it going to be the proverbial clash of unstoppable forces meeting immovable objects?
I put together two sets of data. For the upcoming opponents, how did they do defending the run relative to their FBS opponents' outputs in their other games. For example, how well did GT do in stopping FSU relative to how well FSU has run against other FBS opponents? Then I averaged out all of that data.
Holy Shit,
down goes Liberty, and thus their playoff hopes - up in... Flames.
You just hate to see it ๐คท๐ฟโโ๏ธ
Chaos off to a strong start this week. Liberty were a 20 something point favorite.
I hope our fellas keep that in mind for this weekend.
Anyhow, which games are you guys most looking forward to?
Syracuse @ Pitt on Thursday
Boise State @ UNLV
Notre Dame @ Navy ...??maybe?? Navy keeps it interesting? Vegas doesn't seem to think so
Illinois @ Oregon
Texas @ Vanderbilt. I actually think this night be a wash. I think Texas will be ready, looking to bounce back from UGA
LSU @ TAMU ... are either of these two legit?
Liberty goes down to previously win less Kennesaw State....you just hate to see it s/
McCall QB1 announced on Instagram that he's retiring from Football due to injuries.
He took a hit earlier this season which took off his helmet and he went to the hospital.
He took a hit last year that was a head injury.
He states a brain specialist recommended he quite while he's a head.
Didn't see this posted yesterday and felt like it deserved its own thread after it was announced.
I've been thinking about this for a few days now and I've come to the conclusion that the service academies may be on the cusp of a resurgence in their respective programs. With the state of college football now, with NIL and the transfer portal being a huge shift for both players and programs, Army, Navy, and the Air Force have something that no other program is likely to ever have again - development. Because of the service commitments of the players, these schools have about the highest probability of developing players over a 4-5 year period and truly having senior leadership on their programs.
RUNNING BACK โ Bhayshul Tuten, Virginia Tech, RB, Paulsboro, New Jersey
Tuten recorded a Virginia Tech single-game record 266 rushing yards in a 42-21 win over Boston College. Tuten's 266 rushing yards came on just 18 carries, averaging 14.8 yards per carry thoughout the night. His 266 rushing yards were the most by any player against a Power 4 opponent this season while also marking his first career four-touchdown game. Tuten has logged 14 touchdowns this season, marking the sixth-most by a Virginia Tech player in a single season in program history.
