It's long past time to have a discussion about just how much influence ESPN has on the sport. From actively destroying traditions and conferences to build a super SEC to now outright manipulation to exclude an undefeated Power 5 program with a national brand from the college football playoff to make sure the SEC didn't get left out, it's hard to ignore anymore. And, oh wouldn't you know, the program they manipulated is the one program they want to leave the ACC to join the SEC in the future, how convenient.
ESPN has killed the golden goose. You cannot ignore it anymore. They have too much power, they are too influential to the sport.
Some big matchups this weekend but a couple of news items that will play into the drama.
FSU QB Rodemaker is doubtful to play in the ACC Championship game. He took a late hit to the head against Florida and is in concussion protocol. If he can't go they will have a freshman starting.
Texas vs Oklahoma State got a secondary story when a dead Longhorn was found on the lawn of frat house with an expletive carved in its hide.
(Fraternity claims the grandparents of a brother asked their grandson to remove an already deceased steer from their farm and this was what they decided to do with it)
With so much talk about the portal addressing weaknesses right off the promising ending to the season, let's not lose focus about identifying who the building blocks are? Who are the guys who we don't want leaving in the portal that this program can build around for the next few years. Who flashed that this year, beyond the portal guys who came in on offense?
Discuss. Who has shown flashes of upside that make them development priorities?
Here's how SP+ has fluctuated overtime during the Pry era. In an effort remove the noise, I basically listed the rating for every 3 games (eg; a quarter season).
Thanks, Pete. It wasn't quite as dramatic as the others, but it was a memorable moment. It shows the bond between VT fans and this team.A spectacular return by Tuten who celebrated with hundreds of VT students (on the Scott Stadium hill.)Here's the entire clip ⬇️ https://t.co/5G3ZuDme0mpic.twitter.com/LTSRWE2EJu— Bill Roth (@BillRoth2020) November 27, 2023
The portal opens on December 4th, and the Hokies still trail the big boys, but things are trending positively. I made a $55.17 donation to Triumph in honor of enjoying my film review Sunday so much. I don't have insight on which NIL has the best ROI for getting top players, but if you want to retain good talent and address gaps, before December 4th is the time to contribute.
