Ohio State OL vs Virginia Tech DL

This is where the game will be decided for Virginia Tech in my opinion. If y'all can wreak as much havoc as you did last year in our offensive backfield, you have a great chance to win even if your offense isn't firing on all cylinders.

AP Poll out

Here's the preseason AP Poll. Pretty obvious #1 team, while the Hokies get left out

OT: Preseason Omens

While driving down a backroad today I came with in inches of running over a wild turkey. I was going so fast and had a car on my bumper so no way I could slow down or swerve, luckily it realized its own peril and stopped on a dime and ran back into the safety of the woods. This dramatic Hokie save tells me the season will be a dramatic turnaround from the disaster of the last few years...

Please add your own totally non-scientific and homersitic thoughts below...

8/22 Fall Scrimmage thoughts

Most already here know this but Nijman started at left tackle. Teller played with the ones and twos. Ford, Phillips and Fuller did not scrimmage and Nicholas played just a handful of snaps. Also, Lawson was live this scrimmage. I was late arriving and missed the first few plays of the scrimmage but right as I got there McMillian ripped off a 15-yard run off ride side playing with the 1st team offense. Most of the 1 offense vs 1 defense matchups came later in the scrimmage but I will go by the matchups as opposed to the chronology of the plays.

Just re-watched the 2014 OSU game, and... IT. WAS. NO. FLUKE.

I've had that glorious 2014 game at OSU on our DVR for almost a year now, but had yet to sit down and watch it over again. Today was a pretty free Sat, so I fired it up and sat back to enjoy (only fast-fwd'ing through commercials).

Second Scrimmage Live Thread 8/22/15

Today's scrimmage will likely showcase the last opportunity for young players to show that they can make an impact on the 2015 Hokies and not be redshirted. There are very few positions in flux. In terms of position battles, here is what to look for:

Urban Meyer: Ohio State now devoting over 50% of their camp practices to Virginia Tech

Q: Hell Week is over now coach, you're on to a new phase. Is it Virginia Tech?

A: Yeah, we actually started a little bit early obviously because we open up with them, and we have a lot of respect for who they are, and they beat us. So we've been working on them a little bit, but it's gonna be in earnest now. It's gonna be over half our practice is going to be devoted to them now.

This seems a little bit early to tailor practices to specific teams, but obviously the first game of the year is different than all the rest.

Wishlist for tOSU game

So as we get closer and closer to the game (17 days and 4 hours, but who's counting), I started thinking about what would make it a great game. It could be something that happens on the field, or a fan experience that VT introduces. They've already announced the concert obviously, but what else would make it a great experience for everyone that's making the trip?

J.T. Barrett (Gratuitous) Stats

I saw this and thought it was excellent:

https://magic.piktochart.com/output/7401004-jt-barrett-cfb-film-room-bre...

Stats I think were particularly interesting:

-We had 27 (27!!!) pressures on him, which ended up being 21% of all the pressures he faced all year.

-He only completed 31% of his passes against us

-When pressured, Barrett's completion % dropped from 67.1% to 46.1%, and his yds/attempt dropped from 10-5.9

-He improved against pressure as the year went on (51.4% against pressure over the final 5 games of the year)

Torrian Gray Mic'd Up

In a couple of minutes it's easy to see why Torrian is such a terrific coach. He's relatable, relaxed, but doesn't let the important details slide.
