Agreed whole-heartedly, EXCEPT - I am all for an increase to actually make it a full ride. They don't currently get a stipend. When I was in college, I had to get a job to pay for things like rent, groceries, etc. My parents couldn't help me out as much as they wanted to, as I had two younger siblings on their way up and $$ was tight. My only options were taking more loans or working. Athletes already have a full-time job; working is not an option. I would be all for a raise in the stipend so they could afford a shitty apartment and groceries. I feel like this would remove a ton of corruption from the sport, with players not feeling like they HAD to take improper benefits just to squeek by.

Also, the idea that they can lose the scholarship for underperforming on the field (or even worse - as the result of a career-ending injury!) is bullshit. These kids are basing a major life decision around this, and coaches like Saban can yank a scholly to make room for an over-signed class is absurd and patently unfair. The athletes do need some sort of recourse in this regard.

Well, it's just like announcers and just about every player - is he a white wide receiver? Wes Welker. None of his physical attributes matter, because that's the only person he could possibly be similar to.

You know what's going to suck? No matter which of the two wins the qb derby... people will clamor for the other other one after every pick thrown by the starter. Brace yourselves - a storm is coming.

I'm completely on the other end of the spectrum. I really don't see what he's not getting here - The schools have agreed to abide by the NCAA rules, one of which states that schools can be punished by fans tweeting recruits. This is not a 1st amendment issue, it is not really a legal issue. It is an NCAA issue. They can punish whoever they want in their club as they see fit because the members agree to it. Whether or not you like it is pretty irrelevant.

I don't think it's ever ok to tweet racial or rude comments. And once the sign the LOI, they are officially a member of your team. Not some random high-schooler who you are begging to come to your college. Way less creepy.

I hated when we wore those orange helmets and white unis against UVA two years back... At first glance, it was tough to tell who were the whos!

2005 - our defense outscores their offense in a nationally televised game of ranked teams.

One of the best things about it is that it was OURS. Every school has a "Lets go! ______!" cheer (or "O-H! I-O!" <- same cadence and everything). Stick it in was ours and it was fun, and they killed it. It's perfect, as it's recognizable, loud, but not really damaging to offensive communication.

My freshman year was 2005, and Lane was always so loud. They banned in 2008, and I've just felt like that's coincided with a general quieting, an increase in paper-airplanes, and just a softening overall of Lane. It's probably a coincidence, but I imagine adding Stick It In! would help fight the trend a little.

I'd like it eliminated, because right now, the series after a TD is the most boring in sports:

TD! I'm so excited!

*commerical break*

automatic extra point. meh

*commerical break*

Kickoff for a touchback. yawn

*commerical break*

Ok... now football?

It'd also have the advantage of making those fade throws to the corner of the endzone which are impossible to defend less valuable - the 1 pt attempt would be impossible. Quick question - how far East or West could you go? All the way to the sideline, or are you stopped at the hashes? And does that hold for a 2-pt try?

The only problem with this plan, is that you figure the 2-pt conversion from the 2 currently is about a 50% conversion rate (see below):

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/team-two-point-conversion-statis...

Over the years, the average success rate of two point conversions in the NFL has been around 50%

That means that your expected value of a TD is still 7 if go for 2 every time currently. If you drop the 2 yard attempt to only 1 point, and you assume the % stays similar, then now your TDs are only worth 6.5 points on average, which means FGs are more valuable (relatively).

I love it. Just eliminate the 1 pt attempt and make everybody go for two. Statistically, about 50% of 2-pt conversions are good, so you aren't impacting the value of a TD, but you're adding way more excitement to the game. I'd also argue that FGs are too easy - teams should not be making 60 yarders (that means they're barely getting past midfield!). Maybe narrow the goalposts significantly.
