Right...so what are those points based off? What is the talent gap between 204.73 and 188.87?

Correct, but seeing as we cancelled the following week, my guess is NC State just made the request first, we probably woulda had to do it if they hadn't

I'm curious as to how big the actual gap is in rankings...looking at the ACC class rankings, obviously Clemson, Miami and UNC are tops with the numbers of 4 and 5 star guys they are bringing in...but once you get past them its Pitt (avg- 86.52), UVA (avg 86.11), then we're sitting at 11 with an avgerage rating of 85.06.

How big is the difference between the 4th and 5th ranked and the 11th ranked here?

According to Norm wood, 75% of the players and 80% of the coaches "contracted" it, dating back to March. So it's likely the majority of them contracted it and recovered prior to games getting played (aside from the two weeks in the beginning that had to be rescheduled)

This doesn't necessarily have to do with Whit's presser, but since his presser was kind of a "state of the program" type address, I felt this to be the appropriate spot.

Side by side headlines on the front page of the sports section in todays Va Pilot:
"UVA's '21 class could land in ACCs top five"
"Hokies: 75% of players had covid"

Just dawned on me how truly fucked we might be...if Fernley's account is true, and I have no reason to doubt it.

What happens when if the players hitting the portal is such a mass exodus that it can't be ignored...what then? Do we fire Fu in a few weeks? If our guy was Elliot, no chance he comes back to the table...every other coach that we might target will see the press conference, and/or hear about what happened. Where do we turn?

If the exodus isn't that big, what then? Another losing record next year, and Whit says, "well its a rebuild we can't go down that spiral" like he said today and Fu stays again? Even if we do fire him next year...these past 36 hours have shown what a clusterfuck our program is at the moment...who would want to take that over?

Let's look at the bright side shall we, yes the program is crumbling, we're in a downward spiral with no end in sight, we're likely going to lose a not insignificant number of valuable veteran players to the transfer portal based on this, our president doesn't give a fuck about the program, our AD had his hands tied and power usurped......but, at least we keep our 44th ranked class of 2021 together on the eve of ESD.

Not that it'll change anything, or that I'll even get a response, but here's the email I just rattled off to Whit, copied Sands and Horatio Valeiras (rector on the BOV, his was the only email I could find quickly)

Mr. Babcock, I really do appreciate all that you do and have done for VT in your time here. This season has turned me, a die hard Hokie alum, multiple decade fan completely apathetic towards our once proud football team. I know there are untold challenges this year, with covid, but this year is not an outlier, it is part of a trend. Every year since taking over, the product on the field has regressed. Recruiting...well, you know, it's not good.

From what I am hearing, you recognize this. You know that Fuente isn't the future. You were ready to make the move, there were names out there that genuinely had us fired up! You got overruled. Your higher-ups have decided that football is no longer important to VT, and that is a damn shame. You mentioned in your press-conference that changing coaches comes with the risk of a downward spiral...we're in it, the question is simply how far do we fall? It is going to be hard watching the names that were floating, one coordinator from Clemson, in particular, getting head coaching jobs elsewhere, and having their new teams rolling in less time than it took for Fuente to burn ours to the ground.

The gaslighting, excuses and body language in that press conference came off as though you are feeling defeated, exhausted, and deflated. I would be too if I had such a potential home run lined up, then the rug got pulled out from under me, and I was told to fall on the sword. Sands put you in a terrible position. I hope he sees the error of his ways before it is too late.

I realize that I am one of those guys you referenced in the press conference, the ones who threaten to stop donations, and maybe don't give that much. I gave what I could, but at least now that I know that amount was insignificant, it won't hurt the program for me to not give another penny until Fuente and Cornelson are gone. I hope that you can stay, because you have done an admirable job in the face of a president who does not seem to give the same thought and respect to the football program as those who have come before him have.

If I recall correctly, Whit did say something to the effect of "Blacksburg is my home, I've lived here longer than any other place now, and I'll end it here if you'll have me" in his opening statement

Mentioned in the Corn thread....I think the straight gas-lighting is because this is not the presser Whit planned on giving when he scheduled it. Whit just looks defeated.

The more I think about it, the more I think Elliot, or whoever else it may have been, gave us the Beamer-UNC treatment

EDIT:

Just seeing Fernley's account about...and I'm even more furious if that is true.

Having watched the presser, I think we can rule this out. He looked defeated, deflated, and like he'd rather be anywhere else in the world. He was gaslighting, and making excuses left and right, with no details about how things will improve.

If it was his choice, and he chose to keep Fuente, he would have come out excited, confident.

He's right, all we have to judge him on is the body of work at his job...not him as a person. If we get to know him, we'll think he's doing a much better job

My point was the change didn't work, it was the wrong hire, and we're spiraling. But Whit is confident that it is a good spiral I guess
