That could be a 5-0 NCSU (if they beat L'ville at home the week before) vs. a
4-15-0 VT.
FTFY
There will always be the college football fanbase. But I do think that Joe Sportsfan is more likely to tune into an NFL game than a college game. Just by virtue of their being competition, ratings of the Thursday games will probably go down.
An exponential amount of national viewers who now have a nationwide NFL game competing with the college game. Thursdays are going to trend downward.
Leg for making it to the promised land.
We'll be ridiculed by SEC fans because we play in the ACC. Point is, Thursdays aren't the sanctum sanctorum that some people are treating them as. We love them for the nostalgia, but my guess is if we make NC State our bitch and start owning Fridays the way we used to own Thursdays, suddenly we'll have a soft spot in our hearts for Friday games.
I'll take Hokies football at noon on a Tuesday if I can get it.
VT and Whit Babcock should be getting ahead of the curve and lobbying for Friday night games and leave Thursday night games to the MAC.
Agree with caveats. We should use Fridays strategically like we did with Thursdays. Be the only football on TV when there's an audience. Friday is a bad day for TV, so you need to be selective. Friday before Labor Day, when fans are hungry for the start of the season. Black Friday when lots of people have the day off and are tired from the holiday and shopping, less likely to go out. November Fridays in general because HS football is over and the weather is colder, meaning more people in bars as opposes to out doing things, so better chance of seeing us on the TV in the bar.
But...but...it's THURSDAY! It's the hallowed Virginia Tech tradition that SEC fans ridicule as bush league.

Right you are sir. And there are still tons of "blue-blood" programs that think playing on Thursday is bush league.
And again I say, we ARE playing a Thursday game, some people are just butthurt it isn't at Lane. But ESPN doesn't care where the game is played. They're interested in the Techmo Bowl, and for good reason.
EDIT: stupid autocorrect. Nobody would be interested in a Techno Bowl.
Oh okay I get it. Worse in the sense that's it's not a de facto four day weekend anymore. And I will give you that, but also I will say that doing it in Friday can still get all the party people to the game but also provide an opportunity for upperclassmen and especially grad students who can't shrug off classes as easily to get their Lane on at night without worrying.
Granted. But looking on the bright side, we're guaranteed three night games, two of them at home) by virtue of the schedule. Now whether we get any Saturday night home games probably depends on what we do in September and October. Furman, Pitt and Duke have noon written all over them, but if we're in contention in mid-November I see UNC being under the lights.
ESPN isn't going to bend over backwards to get a Friday night game over a holiday for many teams, especially if that is an ACC team without a spear on their helmets.
Oddly enough, FSU is really getting the shaft in that department, having to travel from Tallahassee to Chestnut Hill, MA, for a September Friday night game.
How do you get that he was completely ignored? If anything, his explanation of the specifics tells me that he was involved in a process to find a way to make a Thursday might contest happen, and conference rules on extended rest and so forth made it impossible. Sounds like this is a case where there just wasn't any way to make it happen even though people were putting in the effort.
Leg for the research. Serious hangover potential there.
Are you saying you'd prefer a mid-major? I'll take P5 bottom feeders over MAC teams any day.
And he coached the best center we ever had. But he's a better tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator. He's where he needs to be.
Regardless of the specifics, it's a home and home with a B1G team rather than an AAC or CUSA team. I'll take it.
Looks like the ACC is going all in on Friday games. Four conference games played on a Friday and UVA/Boise State.
Strangely enough, no Friday game at Syracuse, which I thought was contractually required.
After not being able to make a game last season I'm stoked to be able to make it to two in 2015. West Lafayette is less than a 4 hour drive from me. And OSU redux is a can't miss affair.
Not sure it's really worse for students either. Start your weekend with a game then hit the bars. No class the next day.
I have a hard time trying to get into the mockumentary style of sitcom. It feels like they're ripping off The Office, which in turn was ripping off the films of Christopher Guest.
Stupid reason, I know, but it just feels like a rehash. Can't get into Modern Family for the same reason.
This isn't about wins and losses. ESPN doesn't care what our record is, they care about ratings. They'd put us on Thursday night if we were 2-10 if we'd pull a strong rating and share in that slot. And they are. Everyone seems to be forgetting that we ARE in a Thursday night game, because ESPN considers the Techmo Bowl bankable. Its just an away game. ESPN doesn't care where the game is played, but Whit does and we do. We wanted a home game on Thursday but ESPN only wanted to feature us once. If you're gonna have one VT conference game on a Thursday, which one do you want? Probably the matchup that has determined the outcome of the Coastal Division all but once. By luck of the draw, that's an away game this year.
I think it's safe to say Wiles is to Foster as Foster is to Beamer.
Either he's a confident kid, or we put on quite the horse and pony show for him.
You should see our horse and pony show. Its spectacular. They're all on treadmills.

NOW it makes sense.
Sorry about the break in family tradition, my friend.
