Not a fan of the finger pointing by Walker. Sure, the offense could have scored more. The defense could have also not given up a 97 yard run and a 40 yard pass for touchdowns. Plenty of blame on either side of the ball to be pointing at the other one.

Also, I'm going to wait until we have the same starting QB two seasons in a row before I evaluate offensive progress.

Just based off the police and firemen that I'm personally friends with, and being in a line of work where I occasionally have contact with emergency services, I'm really surprised none of the first responders radioed their dispatch and asked someone to make contact with whoever it was you were trying to get in touch with. That seems to be pretty standard procedure in emergency situations in this part of the country. They would just be able to relay basic information (whether or not your worst fears were confirmed), but at least you would have known the situation.

Anyone in the NRV area with experience with first responders have any idea why this wouldn't have been the first step after failing to get a mobile call out?

Call BS all you want, you're the one bent out of shape over your own expectations. You need to adjust to the reality of the situation. You're tired of losing to top tier programs. Okay. So...now what? You're obviously dissatisfied with the state of the program right now. You can't snap your fingers and turn us into a playoff contender. We aren't as good as you want us to be. We won't be this season.

I just don't get what you're proposing here. Are you venting just to vent? Okay, fine. We all do that from time to time. But it seems to me the heart of your problem is just cognitive dissonance on your part, trying to reconcile how good we are vs how good you think we should be.

If UCF goes undefeated two years in a row and doesn't make the playoffs, get ready for a class action lawsuits from the G5 conferences.

You said UVA, NC State and Wake aren't peers. Neither are Bama, Clemson or Ohio State. We're basically in the tier between those two extremes. Realizing that isn't settling or accepting mediocrity. No amount of post-loss angst will make us elite this season. Why not be realistic about what we can achieve now, while keeping an eye on a long term plan of ascendancy that ultimately lands us among the elites?

FG or TD in that spot, the defense was going to have to stop ND multiple times if we were going to win.

I don't think we were less efficient. We mixed in the run a little more in the second half than the first, but I don't really disagree with the philosophy there. Our backs were fresh, and People's busted a 19 yard run on his first touch of the half. ND just stuffed the run after that carry.

I understand people disagreeing with me on this, but I'm definitely not looking at it in a vacuum. If anything, I think the argument to go for it there is looking at the situation in a vacuum. There was 13:51 left in the game at that point; we were going to have at least two more possessions. The defense had been gashed on two big plays, a 97 yard run and a 40 yard pass. Our defense wasn't gassed at that point, we'd just had two really dumb plays on defense. There's no reason to think another ND score is a guarantee. At the ND 35, you don't punt; atouchback nets you 15 yards in field position. Going for it on 4th and 7 reeks of desperation. Situationally, a FG try is the smart call.

This is not going to just be a Caleb Farley problem. Lots of our young defensive players have a tendency to over pursue and get out of position. That's exactly what sprang the 97 yard TD run. This will be the first time a lot of these starters have seen the flexbone first-hand. Fuente's GT curse might continue if the offense doesn't ball out.

I don't get why people are discounting that a FG there takes us from two TDs (and a 2pt conversion) to tie to 2 TDs to lead. One is a more desirable position to be in than the other, and the relatively unproven kicker in question made a kick from that distance in warmup.

If it's 4th and 2 at that field position, you go for it. 4th and long, you try the FG.

This can't be overstated. That's the biggest difference between this regime and the Stiney years. Plays aren't telegraphed by formation.

Yeah, absolutely. I really should have elaborated on this more, but by bullet point four I was just kinda meh. What I should have said is that outside of the play of Rashard Ashby, ILB play this season hasn't been very inspiring.

He had completions to eight different receivers, so it's not like he wasn't distributing the ball. I'm okay with him favoring Hazelton so long as he doesn't lock on and not ever check down. I just think it's great that our backup QB has such great chemistry with one of our more talented receivers. I'm way more concerned that he tries to throw to Savoy in the end zone against tight coverage.

I was impressed with Willis, even though he made about five bad mistakes. His first two starts were against a ranked team on the road and a playoff contender, and at no point did I get the impression that he was struggling under the pressure. The dude needs to learn to let a bad play go and live to fight for another down, though. It seemed like ilwe saw more of that emerge in the second half, but I swear to God he's gotta stop throwing fades to Savoy in the end zone against tight coverage.

Peoples and McClease aren't Suggs and Jones, but they give us more of a run threat than we've had in recent years. They're good for a couple big runs a game each. And Willis was surprisingly okay in the run game tonight, which is a nice addition.

I know our defensive backfield is young, but add to that the fact that some of those young guys also just don't look very good, beyond just being inexperienced. I'm worried we're locked into a post-Torrian Gray regression.

For as well as we've recruited the positions lately, mike and backer play has left me lukewarm.

I agree, offensive improvement has been slower than anticipated. But the thing that gives me pause is exactly what you said: Fuente is known as a great developer of QBs. He's on his third starter in as many years. We had instance success with Jerrod Evans, then for God knows why he declared after one year. So the program is handed over to JJ, a remnant of the old regime. Now we're on to a former walk on transfer who earned a scholarship. Maybe I'm being too patient, but I want to see Fuente get his guy in there before I panic about the offense.
