Bo Bassett won and becomes first 4x champion
- Agents starting rumors to help their clients
- Randos making up rumors to sound like insiders
- Reporters getting people to violate their NDAs
Probably more, but I'm pretty sure it's mostly #1 and #2. I don't think deliberate misdirection even makes top 5 on this list; it would require too much forethought and competence.
Given the string and how NDAs were signed, how is it that so many people seem to know exactly which candidates are our numbers 1, 2, and 3? Any chance it's misdirection?
Is sportsball like hockeyball?
I think 97 was the first year you could move schools before that you just couldn't play if you moved from one high school you another. One of the guys I swam with could finally go to our school as his family moved and he had to continue going to his old high school to play sports until they changed the rules.
I doubt they go to the G5 route again after Napier.
They've gone every route imaginable since Meyer.
- Will muschamp with a successful defensive coordinator at a variety of blue blood schools.
- Jim McElwein was an OC and a successful G5 head coach.
- Dan Mullen was a successful SEC headcoach and Florida OC.
- Billy Napier was a successful G5 coach
Jaylin Lane may be the #1 or #2 option for Jayden Daniels today with McLaurin, Deeno Sanders and Noah Brown all out today
However it was structured before, it seems to have been loosened up (or tangentially related requirements relaxed) over just the last few years. (of course my experience comes with living near a state champion Martinsburg who magically found $1,000,000 unused money for top of the line facilities, so maybe it's just back in the news)
Sorry 63-27...I keep forgetting the last one because I couldn't believe it with my own eyes and it was run out the clock time.
That started in the late 90s. So only been that way for like 30 years.
Yea, I've seen this general comment in a few places. I didn't watch the game so I'm not quite sure what happened.
I'm pretty confident that Chesney can coach a ballgame. I still have no evidence that he can run a P4 program.
JMU gave up 4 first-half touchdowns to ODU at home...and won 63-27.
(those 4 include fumbling the opening kickoff (!) for an ODU touchdown, and giving up a 99-yard single-play touchdown after pinning them at the 2)
In West Virginia you can pretty much transfer to whichever HS you want just for sports, I don't think you're even required to live in the footprint as long as you are enrolled at the school.
Colorado State just fired the other Norvell
Days after they announce a 400 million renovation of the Swamp.
Not to Pat myself on the back here, but I was very skeptical of Napier.
When he was hired at Florida his initial Press Conference was completely uninspiring. It was largely mush-mouth, word salad where he couldn't make a salient point other than he was going to bring a "Bama-like" organization to Florida.
Well that never really happened and turns out the world found out what Dabo already did...Billy isn't all that good as an O.C.
Also, I suspect the timing is quite meaningful-- I think the Gators have someone in mind already that they want to pursue aggressively, I suspect it's Franklin. There has been some rumor around the past 24 hours that Sumrall is who they want, but I doubt they go to the G5 route again after Napier.
everyone collectively forgot that he went 6-6 as the interim HC at anOSU after Tressel left. Dude was given one of the best rosters in the B1G at the time and did that
That was such a weird situation. Vibes were off, team was the media villain. Roger Godell was taking shots at OSU players, throwing out the idea that they should be punished in the draft/after signing. It was a very different time. I don't think it's unexpected for an experienced coach to struggle in that situation, much less an interim.
Not to mention that he had never coached outside of the state of Ohio
This is a more interesting observation imo.
EDIT: IDK if you heard Wiscy's AD on Monday, but he basically came out and said "we're keeping Fickle here, and we're finally going to start giving him NIL money, because we haven't yet." Sounds like Fickle got Mike Young'd. Some analysis here.
Somehow need to convince Franklin its a better path with a more realistic fan base in Blacksburg than Gainesville.
Napier out in Florida
Add UF to the job list, Napier is OUT
This is correct. It can't be sham consideration (like $1 and PSU pays everything), and it would have to be fair market value. So yeah in your example $1MM would be well below FMV for an ACC coaching salary. But $4-$5MM would be about average and could be made a strong argument that's fair market for an ACC head coach.

Their only two wins against FBS teams since getting screwed out of the playoff are Cal and Alabama. What a wild and confusing stat.
Some reporting that discussions are happening on Norvell's future today. Sounds like an opening at FSU could possibly be imminent. Still not sure they can afford the buyout this year, but he's pretty much lost the team at this point and there's not much sense in hanging on another year.
Shaping up to be a horrific year to be at rock bottom and in a coaching search. Thanks Whit/Sands!

Told y'all we couldn't afford him
