# | VT BoV Approves increase of athletics budget by $47.1m this year, growing to a total budget of $212m in 2029 I put in the other thread as well but per Doug Bowman, the one time payment isn't technically included in that 190m for next year so we will actually be at 203m for next FY. Quite an increase. With this increase, we now need to nail the AD hire to ensure it's used properly.

This kind of funding increase would immediately put us on par with Clemson and Florida State for the entire athletics department. Probably safe to assume the only school higher would be SMU, but that's because they're made of oil money to the point where they were comfortable enough to forfeit revenue sharing just to join the ACC. And this would send a message to the SEC and Big Ten that we intend to be a major player on national scene going forward, which hasn't been a sure thing to this point.
Cannot really understate how big a development this would be if we move forward.

ODU kept it within two TDs with Indiana, I would say based on this past weekend they might win the ACC if they played in the conference.
My expectations for in-conference play:
I can't confidently predict any more wins - we beat Wofford by more than I expected (just based on the score line - I didn't watch, spent the day at the beach with my family instead) but Wofford should be the worst team on our schedule. Don't forget that we got absolutely pantsed at home by ODU (ostensibly the second worst team on our schedule)
The ACC is a big steaming pile of poop. There will probably be a win or two that we don't deserve against a team that finds a way to deserve it even less. I think we might win 1 or 2 more by sheer luck.
I would be completely unshocked by anything from 1-11 to 3-9. Any more than 3 wins would surprise me

1) OBX Fall Pier Tournament was hosted by Oceans East this weekend. 100 anglers, but not ideal drum conditions. One fish was caught by Stefan Turko (the same guy who got the bluefin tuna from the kayak off the beach this past spring) to win the tournament. Drum are being landed off Jennettes today.
2) I have heard from 3 people that the trout are biting in the creeks near the mouth of the York River. However, based on VTFish's reports, they are not biting on the north side of the peninsula in Mobjack. My contact in Yorktown said that he is seeing schools of puppy drum, but they have not been eating despite throwing the bag at them.
Utah really let me down. Michigan made it way closer than I expected but still covered. I'll take my 5/6

I don't know. I think leaving fans show up no matter how it has looked on the field has led to complacency in the Athletic Dept. Why make changes when it's still working? I think the university might need to be scared straight. Empty seats, cratering donations and revenue, the back against the wall feeling that that makes them things things need to improve by a large measure and like yesterday.
No, it will not. If we're seeing these problems then every OC has to be salivating at the stats they are going to put up against us.
Its still on campus, and we can build more parking. It might be a mile away from the existing location, but its not like it would be a mile+ walk for anyone other than the students that live on campus.
Last I heard those two new buildings were taken off the table. I believe that the business school's 2nd new building (the first was the Data & Decision Sciences building at the corner of West Campus & Prices Fork), which will be the new home of the Pamplin College of Business (moving out of Pamplin Hall), and will be next to D&DS on West Campus, had ballooning costs that they were struggling to find funding for, and with all of the budget uncertainty/tightening, they decided to pull the living-learning community buildings off the master plan. Maybe it was something like the college couldn't find the funding to match the university/state, so they put those plans on the back burner.
On the flip side, it is a bit closer. College is now like NFL with 100% free agency.
LED lights would pay for themselves in one season. The ones we use are very expensive to run and replacements are time consuming (they burn out quicker than LEDs). Plus because these have to "warm" up we have to run them for hours before the game and throughout in case a quick storm or dark clouds come. Plus we could easily get a sponsor for them (LED light show presented by The Key Players Club).

This situation will not bode well for VT in ACC play. This observation will likely be prophetic.
Exciting news. Now it's time to make the right hires to take advantage of this and sustain it.
