I kinda feel the opposite. Give me a coach who can do more with less and an AD that is a proven fundraiser.
Until VT raises funding, we won't have better than a top 40 roster. We need someone who can get 9+ wins with a top 40 roster. We need someone who can tell recruits 'you might not be the highest bidder in the near term, but we can develop you so you can get more money in the portal or NFL.' Simultaneously, we need an AD who can drive interest and get more gifts/off-the-field-revenue.
I would love a Dan-Mullen-type because he has a proven record of adjusting his scheme around his players. I also think he can attract talent at the QB position.
I want leadership at USF, on campus stadium, doubled athletic spending in 5.5 years, added sports, spent over 35 million on locker rooms, practice space and sports facilities for multiple sports.
We are relevant enough to get mentioned on gameday for 5 minutes this weekend... due to enter sandman. Unlike UVA, Purdue, Northwestern, Wake, UConn, etc.
Sandman is one of the only reasons Students come to games any more. You think it's going to be easier to build a program when there's no fans in the seats?
Sandman gets us TV eyes, which directly corresponds to TV revenue now. You think it's going to be easier to build a program with less money?
Imagine what it would be like if the team had to fight to earn the right to run out to it. Imagine how electric it would be when it finally came back, as an entrance for a team and a program worthy of it.
I imagine that players want money. I imagine that better players want more money than mid players. I imagine the same rule holds true for coaches. I think we need money to hire better coaches and attract better players.
Sandman is for the fans, not the players.
I'm going to be honest, if SC had made a decision to run the football with some ZR stuff where Sellers could use his legs, I think they put up 50 on our defense. I didn't think they utilized him the way that would exploit our defense the most.
#WeAreNotRelevant
I agree with the sentiment that everything needs to burn.
When you look around at the college football landscape and you see the likes of ECU replacing Mike Houston and being competitive; then you see see JMU consistently competitive through 4 coaching changes; then you see USF regroup (I could go on here)... None of these teams are fielding national championship caliber teams, but the do find ways to regroup and maintain competitiveness.
Something much, much bigger than the head coach is wrong when we, Virginia Tech, hasn't been able to really field a competitive team on over a decade (there have been bright spots during that time, but not many).
The powers that be are clearly incredibly incompetent.
Our OC was a head coach, he's a better interim HC choice, I think. He'd still need to do OC also.
Here's what I don't want. A coach or AD that's made their name on doing more with less. Give me the guy that's just going to demand the resources to continuously succeed, not sit here and win 8 games with a 6 win roster and get a pat on the back.
I don't calculate my own, but ESPN had it Vanderbilt at a 22.2% after the first quarter. If you include the first play of the second quarter, the 54 yard busted coverage TD, it jumps up to 33.4%.
Vanderbilt did not break 50% until 0:24 remaining in the third (the kickoff after going up 23-20).
I don't think we'd earn it for the next 4+ years. It's just punishing the fans. That said we're making it into a mockery and this continued on field performance will certainly make it tarnished
I'm not suggesting getting rid of it. I'm suggesting temporarily withholding it until this program earns it back.
I know that it gets eyes on us. I think that's part of the problem. All we are to anyone is a fucking run-out routine. I'm tired of having eyes on us for Sandman, only for us to lay rotten fucking eggs in Lane - completely negating the atmosphere of intimidation that Sandman represents in the first place.
We used to call this place the Terrordome and it used to mean something. Sandman used to mean something. Now it's a liability. It's an embarrassment.
Imagine what it would be like if the team had to fight to earn the right to run out to it. Imagine how electric it would be when it finally came back, as an entrance for a team and a program worthy of it.
What about going after Lashlee? His salary numbers are hard to find but he's reportedly one of the lowest paid HCs in the ACC worst case scenario SMU has to pay more (which they absolutely could) why would he leave a good program like SMU to VT? Not really sure at this point but he's a damn good coach.
Edit: he just signed an extension last year so that'll probably be a really expensive hire.
I think this is the best way to go about it tbh. Burn the mfer down and rebuild everything. Don't let any sort of emotion or loyalty towards anyone hold anything back. This football program is broken at the most fundamental levels, and you need to start there. Anything less is just setting us up for more failure in the future.
Do you have post-win expectancy at the end of Q1? My guess is that Vandy probably still had a ~45% chance of winning despite being down 2 scores just because turnovers aren't common and their success rate was still high.
He missed Gosnell by 5 ft high on the first drive for a huge gain
It doesn't matter who we hire if Whit Babcock is making the hire. We need fundamental change in Merryman first. Kick his feckless ass out into the cold, hire a GM, and then let the GM spend all fall on a coach search.
It's time to modernize Merryman. We should use this shithole situation we're in as an opportunity to go scorched fucking earth, and then pray to god something resembling a winning program can emerge from the ashes in time for the ACC to implode.
becomes clearer and clearer as time passes that he has an axe to grind

The Beamer's are gone-accept it and move on. That is a huge part of the issues now as is.
This seems like a you problem more than a Shane problem.
He tried the 5 ft overhead but got bailed out by a one handed catch.
I think he is the 2nd worst coach at VT in the last century. The only one worse is like 1-22. I think we are less talented than when Fuente left and that Pry hasn't been anywhere close to ass good as Fuente in the things that matter which is saying something because Fuente had very few redeeming qualities as a P4 coach.
He was a poor position coach at VT and it becomes clearer and clearer as time passes that he has an axe to grind. Sick of hearing about Shane. Making a point of talking to the sideline reporter in game and unprompted crystallized his bs for me. Plus the game ball for Frank...ugh. The Beamer's are gone-accept it and move on. That is a huge part of the issues now as is.
Wasn't brookes the highest paid ACC WBB coach when he left?
How dare he take a job he was offered and then beat the teams that were scheduled. That jerk.
Fuck Shane for the record

Yea, that is a fascinating example.
