Sands is tough. On one hand, he's seemingly done exceedingly great things with academics and has us on the cusp of AAU membership. Academic fundraising has boomed under Sands. The school's academic profile and rankings have risen significantly. And that's great because that's what the University President should be primarily concerned with.
But I think he just hasn't been as hands-on or focused on athletics now until lately. I believe that he understands the situation and wants to fix it. But he's probably going to retire in just a couple years at this point. I'm sure he doesn't want to have to get his hands dirty and have to be the axe man, firing Whit and a lot of the AD administration with not too much longer to go before he retires. But I truthfully don't think he can afford inaction at this point.
Something is going to have to give. I'm just really hoping this is enough to force his hand to take action in regards to Whit and Pry. I've never seen the entire fan base just flip like a switch like this in the last 12-18 hours. It's going to get ugly.
As painful as it is, I think it's preferable to eat the L and let them all walk. Each one of them can't get the fuck out of here fast enough.

Moved up from 3 wins to 4 from last week to this week.(Damn Iowa St won by on 3.5 pt spread and SMU lost by 3 in double OT or I coulda been 6-0 (correctly figured Ole Miss And AZ couldn't cover 10.5 and 6.5 pt spreads on the road,))
Moved me up from tied for 19th to tied for 3rd. That and fun tailgating from 830 am (friend slept in the rest area so didn't make my 6 am target) til 630 pm and the rain holding off were the best parts of yesterday.
Back to reality for stadium experience vs last week(entry line time 20 minutes; zero wifi/cell service -until the stands emptied mid 4th quarter.)

Seems like TSL is officially flying the Fire Whit banner now. I hope enough public pressure forces Sands to do something here. Someone has to be held accountable for this shit show. The fan base has had enough.

The bad part is that you could see this coming. Guy who had never been a head coach anywhere coming from a school who wasn't upset he left surrounding himself with coordinators who had never done it before.
It was a checklist of everything you can't do with a coaching regime.
Either play the same game as everyone else or shutter the football program. None of this half assed pussyfooting bullshit where we handwring about doing the exact same things everyone else does. Either we are serious or not.
And if we aren't, then fucking bulldoze Lane and put some academic buildings on the site going forward.
No he was at least 4th behind Louisville ($1.7M), NC State ($1M) and UNC ($950K). Notre Dame and Duke don't publish data but were both thought to be higher than Brooks $890K. Syracuse also doesn't publish and there were rumors Legette-Jack also got more than Brooks to come over from Buffalo. If those were true Brooks was 7th.
I don't care what anyone associated with the school says anymore. All I care about is what they do.
They don't deserve the trust of believing their statements. They were the ones who allowed things to get this bad, so I don't give a shit about their revelations now.
It's to the point now where they need to prove this school deserves the support going forward. The last 16 hours or so has been a coming to terms that after last night I am emotionally disconnected from VT going forward. I just don't care anymore. My neighbor's have been trying to get me free tickets to the NCSU game and I already declined them. I have too much other shit going on in my life to follow something that makes me absolutely miserable. It's not fun anymore.
I mean as parent with two kids nearing college-age I do think there is a conversation to be had about the greater goals of the University.
From Whit's presentation, it appears clear that nearly any revenue generating plan involves increasing student fees. Essentially taxing the general student population in order to pay athletes under the guise that they have some intrinsic "NIL" value.
You know, the kind of NIL value that can only be satisfied by instituting required fees on others without their agreement.
If Sands et al. don't see that as a goal of the University then they should make that clear. But this "dipping your toe into the pool" approach is completely futile.
I want VT to be good, but I also am unsure that even with a significant cash infusion thats going to occur. NIL and the Transfer Portal have been systematically manipulated by the Power Programs in CFB to make sure that they always have a competitive advantage and TV Networks have partnered with the SEC and B1G to further reinforce that.
So if Sands says..."nah, we're not going to create a $1500 Athletic Fee so that we can go 8-4 instead of 6-6," im not sure I could argue with him. I'm also convinced that the vast majority of the thousands of Students inheriting another $6k of Debt would agree with that.
You know what else makes this process incredibly complicated and rather crappy as a VT fan...you've got Pry at this point who has likely accepted his fate and is awaiting his golden parachute, while his boss goes to the BOV and verbatim says "I don't know how much longer I'll be here/you'll have me here" - he's itching to move on. And even his boss in Sands is looking to step aside/retire in the next few years. Everyone in a leadership position at VT is trying to grab their parachute and bail.

I don't know that I feel good about our relevancy on GameDay essentially being "the program is washed, but hey the entrance is still pretty cool".
It's also Disney's fault, but VT's admin and AD made just about every possible mistake along the way.

I was going to say let's just hire USF's AD but just realized they currently don't have one and a search is underway.
I know we like to give UT a lot of grief, but man they went out and hired Danny White from UCF who had invested similarly in athletics, and he brought Heupel with him and they have been tremendously successful over the last several years in not only football but all major sports.
