Fair. Also, not easy to do. I'm not sure he's done it, tbh. He did inherit an absolute dumpster fire, though. It would be unfair to say he hasn't made any improvements at all but I'm not convinced the ship is back to floating. At the very least, he's stopped taking on water.

Ignoring our apparent slight disagreement on the status of said ship in this analogy, I think I agree that this is probably the year to prove himself. I just do not have any faith that he will deliver the results that will be needed to keep him employed beyond this season.

I think it's too early to say he couldn't be a good coach. But I do think it's too late for him to prove that he can be a good coach here. He skuttled his chances on day one when he hired Tyler Bowen and Chris Marve, effectively putting all three of the top top three most important jobs in the hands of very green coaches with very limited practical experience in their respective roles. It was a gamble that didn't pay off. Now he's going into a prove-it year with brand new coaches on both sides of the ball, a less talented team than the one he had last year, and a tougher schedule to get wins against. I'm not saying that he's definitely not going to win enough games to keep his job but I am saying that I think there is a high likelihood he fails to win enough games to keep his job.
Could Pry be a good coach? I think there's potential there. He's shown that he can recognize and take action on mistakes that he's made. Even if a little too slowly (though, with experience, those decisions will be made more quickly). I just don't think it's going to happen in Blacksburg. I'll be very surprised if he wins more than 5 games. I'll be even more surprised if, after a losing season, he gets to keep his job. I'd say he's got about a 5% chance at being the HC for the VT football team in 2026.

I saw the presser clips posted across the VT Athletics socials and... just didn't engage with them at all. I don't really care what they say. I care what they show. What they prepare. What they do.
If they want to treat me like a customer then they have to earn my business. If they want to treat me like an investor then I need to see a return on my investment. They commoditized and fiscalized the fans so... I'm holding up my end of the exchange now.

Entered in local long drive comp for the opening of the sim place here. Was the second person to go and my drive held on until the last person up who asked to borrow my driver then got me by 1.5 yards. I should not have lent him my driver. It was a pretty poor turn out as far as anyone that really golfed my drive went for 301 which I figured would finish middle of the pack not 2nd.
The new GHIN 9 hole system seems to be keeping my hdcp really high. I'm down to a 19.4 while my league that keeps an independent handicap (avg best 2 of your last 5 [so likely too low]) is down to 5 strokes for 9 holes - GHIN gives me 10 on that same 9 holes.
Just needs a corn kernel on top....

Must be going around...my short game is a shit show right now.
Friday I hit 9 of 13 fairways; had no lost balls or penalties; hit only one trap; had only one less than solid contact swing (ball stopped on front fringe); and managed a...........+16. Only one up and down, beaucoup three putts, and made only one putt (a 4 footer) that wasn't a tap in. Pure ugliness.

As a program, we are going to be someone's learning opportunity or their opportunity for redemption. We're not going to get a 5 star coach with where our program and conference is positioned.
I hate how true this is. He does that part of the job phenomenally well! Unfortunately, it's not the most important part and the rest hasn't translated likewise (yet). I'll at least give him credit for firing his failed protege experiment. That couldn't have been an easy decision. Did it come a little too late? Maybe. Was he already in a compromising position for having hired not one but two green coordinators off the bat? Yes. Will he continue to coach after VT and will he apply the lessons learned here when he does? Probably. I think he's reflective enough and doesn't have too much of an ego to admit when and where he messed up. It's just a shame that VT was his learning and growing opportunity and he couldn't be a good coach here. I think he's too far behind the ball to make it up this year but I do believe he has the capacity to be a successful coach in the right situation. I think there's a fair to reasonable chance he goes on to be a good coach elsewhere while VT is mired in mediocrity.
I thought I saw that he tore his Achilles and was going to miss the season. Bad info it seems.
A tale of two nines.
I work with a guy who is a member at 12 Oaks near Raleigh and it legitimately might have the toughest greens in the area. They are brutal. And they were playing really fast when I played Friday because they had their club championship Saturday and Sunday.
I absolutely blew up on the front, posting a 63. I haven't played that badly on 9 holes in probably 4 or 5 years!
I shot a lot better on the back but still couldn't putt to save my life. I think I had one or two good putts on the back and posted a 49. It's a tough course but I was glad to turn around my luck mid-round after playing the worst golf I've played in years. I'm more pleased with the bounceback than anything else.
Recruiting NC Central players as opposed to UNC players fits our profile at the moment. Sorry had to say it, because it's true.

I still think he meant to say Virginia. Or some random guy was on the sidelines in a VT polo and Trei lost his damn mind over nothing.
Even if everything he said was true, then I'm glad we got assistant coaches, or support staff, or random guys in polos trying to get good players on our team. Until some semblance of order is restored to college football, who gives a rat's ass about minor infractions and nit picky recruiting violations? What are they gonna do? Nothing. They're not gonna do fucking anything!
Yeah he has been on Jets since 2023 tore his ACL in 2023 OTA's and then got a high ankle sprain landing on IR last year .. hopefully he can stay healthy and get back to his ravens performance
It sure is frustrating! Strange that you lost so much yardage without an apparent injury, but it sounds like the re-set is what you needed. My days of shooting mid-70's regularly like you are probably long gone, but I can still get there on a good day.
I had my own frustrations this off-season, starting with a somewhat botched meniscus surgery in November. Within two weeks of post-op PT, I knew the surgery didn't work and a subsequent MRI showed that my knee was either still torn or re-torn. After consulting a top surgeon in Boston, I was put on a new PT routine involving blood flow restriction therapy, which worked really well. Hopefully I can avoid another surgery for several years. I never should have let a guy on the Cape cut on me when the best doctors in the world are 60 miles away.
Anyway, also this winter and after my youngest son got a new set of clubs, he begged me to go out and play a few holes in 20 degree, somewhat snowy weather in February. This was WAY below my comfort level for golf, but like an idiot I agreed & jumped in the cart and raced out to the par 4 behind my house with no stretching or warm-ups. I took one swing with my driver and dammit, a sniper got me in the lower back. More doctors (turned out to be a very painful injury to the sacroiliac joint), more PT, when the golf season started this year, I had lost 30 yards on my drives and 10-15 on my irons. I was swinging with only my arms for the first few months as I couldn't get my lower body into my swing and I just couldn't reach the greens with my normal shots. My index shot over 10, the worst it has been in 15 years and I was very frustrated. I was in a lot of sand, and I really struggled breaking the mid-80's until the past month as all the PT work started clicking. My legs now feel stronger than ever (I'll never skip leg day again like I did for, oh, 20 years or so), and I can get full rotation with a repeatable swing. I realized I can no longer just race to the 1st tee and go. I now have to stretch, warm up a bit on the range, and be smart. It's really helped. My brother (also a Hokie) and I won our flight in our club's 4-day MG a few weeks ago and made it to one of 3 teams left standing in the shoot-out. I was really proud of him as it was only his 2nd big tournament in 15 years or so. Yesterday, in the semi-finals of our club's Match Play championship, I finally put it all together and shot a 76.
My goals are to get back to shooting in the 70's consistently and one day to shoot my age. I'm 67, so I probably have a few years to go before I can be lucky enough to ever do that.
