# | OT:Whatever Happened to the Family Restaurants We Grew Up With? You know, this is a darn good point. Definitely makes sense. Growing up, I remember going out to eat was a couple of times a year, maybe. Not a couple of times a week like some people think it should be today. And, when you did go out, the kids' cheap eats drove things then but not now. Could explain a lot.
"I wonder how much of today's dinning options are driven by consumers waiting until they are older to have kids? More young couples on a budget going out, but not having the choices driven by what works best for the kids?"
FWIW, my wife and I married fairly late and both had good paying jobs when we met. Neither of us is into having fancy "things" either. When we had our daughter, we were going out a lot and I remember saying we need to shift things. Made it no more than 1 meal out a month unless a special occasion means another meal (i.e., someone's birthday, Father's Day, Mother's Day, our tradition of taking her out on the first and last day of school) or we are on vacation. I just did not want my daughter growing up like a typical stupid American who thinks you are supposed to eat out or get takeout 4-5 nights a week and then turns around and bitches about how hard it is to make ends meet.
I have to counter the original post with this:
Combine the best of Stinespring and Loeffler, and you still have a lousy P4 OC.
You may have a good OL coach and a good theoretical offensive thinker, but still a terrible P4 OC.
Combine the best of my 1973 tee ball team and my grandmother's bridge club and you have UVA football.
7-6 I think is the absolute bare minimum for Pry to keep his job based on the skuttle butt around the athletic department that I hear working in the CRC.
If he beats Vandy, ODU, Wofford, Cal, UVA and Nc State his seat should be red fucking hot. If that's the bullshit we get in year 4- no good wins- we should all demand change. SMU joined this league and promptly is the second best team in the league. Pry is running out of excuses.
Sure it depends on who he loses too.
He needs to win the ones we should win. Split Vandy and USC at a minimum.
Believe it or not, ESPN and Fox are actually ripping off the SEC and B1G if we are talking true pro sports. CFB on TV is more popular than MLB and the NBA. Once the players realize this and now that the pay for play flood gates are opened, they are going to form a union, and collectively bargain with schools and TV partners on salary. This makes the SEC and B1G meaningless basically as conferences unless they break off and negotiate on behalf of the players. Why would the players agree to that? They wouldn't.
If Pry goes 5-7, he's gone. If he loses to ODU and does not make the ACC Championship game, he is gone. Period. 6-6 with the wrong loses, and he's likely gone. He is likely starting 0-2 this year. So let's see if he can rally. Everyone on this board knows he's not winning 9, 10 games with this roster.
This is where the big schools have been lining up bigger names to be the General Manager for the latter role you mention. Also seeing so much more focus on fundraising when it comes to athletic director hires the last few years.
I was struggling to think of family places I went to as a kid, but finally realized - we (as kids) did not go out. We stopped at McDonald's for lunch when driving to Philadelphia or Davenport to visit family. Mom and Dad had date nights where they went out, but we had a sitter and tv dinner. Maybe once a year to Pizza Hut or Golden Corral when dad was going to grill but it rained. I think I got a hamburger at dairy queen or a hot dog at tasty freeze at some point. I did not really go out at all until I was old enough to get a job and pay for it myself. Same thing when we had kids. Just could not afford it until the youngest turned 5, when places with really cheap buffets for kids became popular stops after a day of sports for 2 children. We did not like the food, but cheap, no waiting at the table for service with hungry children. Everyone could find something they would eat. Almost no buffets since then. I wonder how much of today's dinning options are driven by consumers waiting until they are older to have kids? The distance loss and weak right was the frustrating part. I know when I'm tight and not hitting it full distance, but it was warm, I was loose, and using the same pro v's as always. Partner also lost his game so was just assumed someone had a doll they were shoving pins into.
I can feel your pain. Im close to a knee something, whether it's cleaning or replacement. Just stiff and in pain. Can't continue like this.
Ughhh...while that would hurt, it certainly isn't a major deterrent if you're going to a P2. I mean, according to the interwebs, SMU gave up over $200 million to join the ACC.

There were changes made as part of the new Revenue distribution model changes.
Next year exit would be $165M. It decreases $18M annually until reaching $75M in 2030-31. That is the new floor.

We obviously want to see improvement this year. If it's not better this year he is done after next if they don't contend for the ACCCG or at least be in serious contention for it. Win 8 this year people will be content for another year. 8 or better next year he secures a couple more years. 2 more.
We go seven wins or worse this year he is definitely on the hot seat next year.
I want him to succeed here though. He has the culture down pat. Just need the on field execution.
And we were a handful of some boneheaded calls coaching errors from having three more wins last year. Frustrating to say the least.

Whit Babcock watched Fuente run the ship into the ground and then keep rowing the boat in the same direction for several seasons before he got rid of him. If Pry wins 6 games this year, I can very easily see a world where he sticks around. "our talent floor is higher" "once we get players fit for these schemes, we can do some damage"
For the record, I would likely not be a fan of that move, but it would be 100% on brand with the VT athletics experience for the last 10 years.

Just my initial gut reaction, but I feel like right now we're only on their radar in terms of recruiting...like a pesky fly they just have to swat away as they poach from our recruiting areas. But if we join their conference, they're going to dump a lot more resources into making sure we are forever bottom feeders in their conference...an easy W on their conference schedules.
The change in home game scenery would be nice, though.
I haven't really been following too closely on all the GoR issues, lawsuits, etc. What would this mean if lolUVA did accept a bid, in terms of exiting the ACC? Would the Big Ten have to help foot the early exit fee from the ACC? Would lolUVA just sue forever, hoping to get a settlement for a lower fee?

it's really anybody's guess at this point. We see new coaches come in and have immediate impacts somewhere every year. It's just never happened at Tech (or, at least, not in a good way)
