It really does just feel more and more like Pry is the guy thats setting up the guy. Almost like in the long term, his name will be a footnote in VT history for the coach that dug us out of the mess that Fuente left us but not the one that brought us back. (Apologies if I am making zero sense)

Yea... I think the question is 'are we still improving, or did we plateau?' and we should know this year.
Also, this NC State quote:

I think we all agree on the slow improvements part, things are better than a few years ago, but it also feels like the bar for success in college athletics is rising faster than we are improving. Tech just isn't adapting to the new climate fast enough or started too far behind to keep up. Brent has raised the floor, but doesn't seem like he is the guy who can raise the ceiling.
I think I agree with everything the opposing coaches anonymously said about us. I feel pretty confident that Brent Pry is not that guy, but hopefully I'm wrong.
Being from Southern WV (Beckley), I used to sweat bullets every time we went to soex, thinking I would run into a cousin working the pole.
I've said it before and I'll say it again... If Kyle Fuller stays healthy through 2013 that team finishes this season undefeated after the Bama loss.
He's just the prototypical guy for a bud foster defense

I just thought it was ugly. The buildings weren't pretty. The surrounding town just felt like... A shopping center? Like one of those weird sort of subdivisions where it has every possible chain store, and then a couple apartments, but the Knoxville version of this was just shittier than the rest, but still equally as soulless.

I haven't spent a whole lot of time in Knoxville, but the times I've been there, I had a lot of fun. I don't think it's a particularly "nice" city, but there's good food, good places to drink, and concerts.
On the topic of rivals, I think Charlottesville is a nice city. It just has the bad fortune of being home to an insufferable university with another insufferable fan base.

The sad thing is that so many of these Virginia comments would apply to VT over the past several years as well. Especially the sloppiness and lack of discipline. Add in coaching mistakes as part of sloppiness too. They really need to get this cleaned up. I can see the team taking a good step forward, but I can also see a lot of the same and the need for massive changes after this season. Seriously, people could argue we will go 2-10 or 8-4 + a bowl win to get to 9-4 and be ranked at the end of the year and I could believe both.

I haven't done much *playing* Battletech, but I do enjoy the novels, and I think I still have all (and I mean all, I hunted some down) of the Classic Battletech novels in dead-tree format in a bin in my storage space. I've been on a reread off and on over the past year, but I'll admit I get confused when the Jihad comes in. And I hear there's a lot of new stuff since then. (I keep seeing references to new-to-me Clans on reddit.)
Any suggestions on what to read and what to ignore?

Summing up my last few trips out this spring here in the Mobjack and a couple of trips to the Piankatank, it seems that a few holdover trout and stripers are there, but trout are only a little more prevalent than the very few reds we've found. It's nice to have the stripers around, but when they comprise more than half of the few fish we've caught, well they fight well at least. Salty Super Flukes is still the main producer for us, but the continuing lack of migratory fish from the southern climes combined with the winter kills are making for a sparse spring so far. Other than one Spanish and one black drum, nothing of note for me though Paul had a good morning with a handful of trout, including a couple over 20, but that was the banner day for him. C'mon reds, I need ya!
It would be impossible for me to rationally put them in numeric order or to rate anyone from before the mid 80s.
But I would say in the time I can evaluate, it is Bruce Smith, Michael Vick and then everyone else. Those two were pivotal to the program in addition to being amazing players. So many great ones in the time frame I know, but I don't think they changed the entire direction of the program with their impact.
