That was my same exact thought as I read the Andrew Luck as GM announcement. I know that there are a lot of AD's that would want a GM (aka associate AD) who drive football staffing, revenue distribution, etc, but coaches (at least of this generation) are not going to want to give that up.
Stanford being the first school to actually give a coach another boss... that job is already hard enough. Good luck making a compelling hire. They should run the wishbone.
NFL scouts are good at scouting and valuing RBs- they generally hit on the good ones- meaning high draft picks perform- Barkley, etc. And also have realized that you can get a good RB- Tuten- in the 5th round. They devalued the position- rightfully so- when the game and offenses changed and the best head coaches were simply play callers now. They aren't going to had the ball off 50 times. Having said that nobody in any industry does anything worse than the NFL scouts QBs. They are dreadful at it.

I never knew it was called The Batter's Eye. I never knew it had a name, really. To me, it was just that area in CF that no one could sit in because the batter wouldn't be able to see the ball.

there are two components to this -- the first has nothing to do with Tuten as a prospect and that is that it's just an absolutely loaded class at RB. the second is that Tuten as a prospect is small and there are concerns (founded or not) that he would struggle as a true 3-down back in the NFL -- didn't see a lot of usage in the passing game at VT and might struggle in pass pro at the next level.
not in NFL draft circles, but more on the Dynasty Fantasy Football circles, there is a concern Tuten would slide due to a perceived fumbling issue, but that is lazy to me. as Hokies, we know that a notable amount of the fumbles attributed to him were actually on janky mesh points/reads by the QB. I don't think that's all on him.
His range of outcomes is Round 2-3 to Round 5 just based on where teams have him on their boards -- either some team will jump at the chance to take him, or some team will be absolutely ecstatic he dropped into their lap.
I would rather have Stanford in the ACC than Cuse, Pitt, BC, etc. but that toothpaste is out of the bottle.

For the past 10 years, on 3rd and 6- we run the QB keeper 80% of the time vs. throwing it to a Jaylen Lane in that spot. Play calling is equal to the shit OL. But I don't ignore the overall lack of talent in the program. 10 win teams, highly ranked recruits help guys like Lane be more effective.
I'll be honest, this is the least excited I've been about opening day and baseball (in general) in a couple decades. I'll probably have some game on in the background if I can find a TV broadcast, but I skipped my annual MLB.tv renewal as I have zero hope for Minnesota doing anything this year... the ownership sucks and wont invest, they continue to be plagued by injuries to key players (Royce Lewis starting the year on the DL, again), and I'm just generally down on sports (thanks, NCAA and NIL).
For most of the last 100 years, Stanford football has only been good when Harbaugh was feeding them steroids. Who cares about Stanford football?
💯 people pointed out that there was not even a canned comment from Taylor about the luck hire. Really weird. Did not seem like Taylor was on board (who would be? No one wants more bosses than they need).
Agreed, IMO, Taylor's clock was ticking as soon as the Luck hire happened. This was a convenient way to expedite things for The Cardinal.

Per McShay, Tuten had a "generational" showing at the combine. Was clamoring for him to be in a Miami-style offense.
IIRC, he just didn't understand why the offense wasn't better considering a stud RB and a true college WR1. He called out the OL for sucking.
You're giving Stanford way too much credit... let's look at the time table here (all dates included in ESPN article, except for the public apology, which was listed as 'last wednesday')

The more likely scenario IMO is the new guy at Stanford (Andrew luck) saw the opportunity to replace a 3 win coach and bring in his own guy.
Andrew Luck's dad is Oliver Luck. Andrew knows to never let a good scandal go to waste.

How does skipping the NFL to play college translate to integrity? I mean, I get that it's unusual, and in the spirit of amateurism and 'love of the game' but that's not a show of integrity.
Is anyone still pretending? This just is and has been the state of things. The phrase "NIL" has become more inaccurate I guess, but it has just been a stand-in for paying players for years now.
Agree on contracts though. If it's going to be a business, make it a business.
Whit has a "best in class" coaching interview and identification process, but I guess his NIL process needs work. lol.
