I was at the last day game before the first night game at Wrigley while visiting old friends. Had a great time, loved the park, couldn't tell you who they played for the life of me, and got to see Koko Taylor at a blues club that night. Wouldn't want to live there, but Chicago is an interesting city.

Yes, there were many fans who took the position that players were being exploited, when in fact they were getting significant compensation in terms of training, free room and board, and a free education.
So now they're often being paid like professionals (and often more than they'll get in other leagues) for wearing a university name on their jersey, while still getting the benefit of a college education, if they even want one.]
Needed a new ignition module for my 2012 ram. Dealership wouldn't even give me quote without bringing it in for a "diagnosis" even though I knew exactly what it needed. A little internet sleuthing and a 50 dollar android app later and I swapped it out myself after ordering the module online. I fully expect i saved at least 750-1000 dollars.
But needs to go out with everyone and limited to 5 years.
Currently there are people playing for too many years and with the NIL, the problem will get worse. Some of those not able to get absolutely PAID in the "Professional" leagues will be able to get BANK in college sports.
Gotta get a grip on that now, rather than later when it looks partisan.

I like Mike Young. Pretty much everything about him as a coach and how he conducts himself. If my two boys are ever talented enough to play on a D1 level he's exactly the kind of Coach I would want them to play for.
I think we have to also be honest about two things that he's got going against him that just aren't going away.
The current environment of college sports is completely style over substance. NIL and the Transfer Portal have completely devalued teaching coaches. What matters is simply how well you can sell your program and how much money you can raise for it. Players go in, players go out--very few stick around long enough for any actual development either educationally or in the fundamentals of their sport. It's a shame and it is completely short-sighted.
Number two, the VT Athletic Department is simply inept. Every time Whit speaks he sounds more and more vapid. The department really should just be cleaned out from top to bottom. They continue to live in the past and have shown no ability to adapt. Even if Coach Young suddenly turned into "Mike the Used Car Salesman," it's very doubtful he'll ever have the resources and support he will need to sustain success in the current landscape.
I want him to succeed for many reasons, I just don't see a reasonable pathway for it to happen now.
The basic scheme of the offense isn't hard to learn but running it precisely and effectively is difficult and simply takes time.
The other point to consider is many of these guys were treated like Demi-Gods in H.S. and the Offense was basically "give him the ball and get out of the way."
Convincing an 18 year-old who's been told since age 12 that they are destined to be an NBA millionaire that running a pin-down screen to get someone else an open shot is a difficult proposition. Running an Iso Offense gives them much more opportunity to showcase themselves.
When said 18 year-old has an NIL Agent in his ear yapping about all the "offers" he can get him, getting guys to stick around to learn and perfect an Offense is near impossible.
The Germans were not capable of spending 70% more on NIL than we did. We ended up spending 70% more than they did even though it cost them everything they had.
I don't think they had the budget. I do not think they had the money.
They didn't take from BB for Football, they just did not have any more left. You can't squeeze that stone any harder to get the blood out.
The NIL money is just wildly over the moon. There are lots of schools that did not anticipate the incredible volume of cash. It is mostly because some schools saw an opportunity to throw whole stacks of cash in an attempt to sneak in a title or 2. We'll see over the next few years just how sustainable it is.

I don't think it's that hard to teach/learn. I think the challenge is having several players not only learning it at the same time but also gelling as a unit.
If significant annual turnover is now the norm; then slow starts to the season will also be the norm particularly for teams running more complex or more disciplined systems.
Portal season for VT may be trying to lock down a couple of higher level players and then finding successful role players from smaller schools that are already familiar with what CMY likes to coach.
