I would love the legislature to smack JMU with you are now a division I school. You get to follow the same rule and force them to slash the hell out of their fees.

I survived. Man it was nice to have temps in the 70's, be on a golf course, no work, and just be able to take a deep breath for a minute. Played 99 holes in 4 days. 18-18-36-27. I'm good for a minute, but will be itching to be back out there soon. Heritage Club greens are in a great shape and rolling for this time of year. And Moorland is a wild animal with 25mph winds. Lots of golf for having only played once since Thanksgiving.

Death by a thousand cuts. Sports aren't driving enrollment any longer like the Vick era. And just tacking on fees to non-athletes for athletes is a bit much, imho.

Application Numbers:
Record High: Virginia Tech received a record-high 52,365 first-year applications for fall 2024, a 11% increase from the previous year.
Offers Extended: The university extended offers to 28,758 first-year applicants.
Enrolled Students: The incoming first-year class consisted of 7,289 students.

Transfer Applications: More than 3,500 transfer applications were submitted for fall 2024, also setting a record.

"They are not held to the same LAW that UVA and VT are."- To hell with Ut Prosim- the new motto for VT should be "special, not in a good way". FFS

This is a drop in the bucket compared to what JMU is charging in student fees for athletics. They are not held to the same LAW that UVA and VT are. That law limits student fees at UVA and VT to no more than 20% of the total athletic budget.

Last I checked it's costing a JMU student almost $12K to graduate in four years in athletic fees.

FYI, this is what I saw online for VT tuition for what they pay out-of-state now and ~3x what I was paying.

Virginia Tech's tuition is $15,948 for in-state and $37,158 for out-of-state students. Compared with the national average cost of in-state tuition of $12,201, Virginia Tech is more expensive.

The part cited above here in the post is including many other costs like computer, transportation, etc:

Back when I was a student - and could not have cared less whether VT even had a football or a basketball team - I would have been really ticked at this. With tuition ~3x what I was paying then (last I checked), not sure if this would infuriate me even more to be asked to pay for NIL or if I would not even notice it, but asking regular nerd/dweeb people like I was then to pay for NIL would just be galling.

The only country in the world where if you show some promise in basketball around 12-13 years old (8th grade) you enter the Sports Bag Industrial Complex. At that point - you average 12 points on your AAU team, 6 assists in games where defense is not played, have some height, can dribble, maybe dunk in 8th grade- at that moment, you enter the bag machine. NOTHING else matters- you are coddled, you don't have to take academics seriously, you are recruited by major universities giving you a priceless opportunity to showcase your skills and get a Stanford, Duke, UVA, Cal education because you have drawn attention in the Sports Bag Complex- nothing else is important. Eddie Curry's mom fed his brothers mac and cheese and Eddie rib eyes because Eddie was in the Complex. Countless NY playground legends that could not read were offered world class educations from Jim Calhoun, Jim Boeheim, Valvano, Rollie, Tark. Literally could not read. Try getting into Syracuse University otherwise. It's part of American culture- now more than ever- this complex. Hell Jaydon Young actually made it to a high major program. There are countless kids with agents, runners, AAU scum that couldn't play for Colorado School of mines. But it remains a thing because this is the only country on earth where grown men and women feed a beast that sees less than 1% of these kids make it to the NBA. When you have the sports bag complex, you must pay these kids - you must- whether they can actually play basketball or not. Why? Go Blue! Let's GO Hokies! The complex is always fed with irrational boosters that will do anything to beat Ohio State or UVA. And the parents of those 12 year olds in AAU know it. Iverson knew it when he threw a chair at a kid and was given clemency to go to one of the most prestigious schools in the country. Now that is not enough- he must get paid over the table millions while he is there. Hoya Saxa! Marcus Vick knew it as he was a total fucking degenerate and disgrace to my alma mater- grown men fed it and coddled him. The Sports Bag Industrial Complex is fucking real, 100% a house of cards, and 100% detrimental to 99% of the kids its supposed to "help".

CMY doesn't "force" anyone out. This is CMY we are talking about here, not Bob Knight. Now, CMY is an honest dude of course and perhaps Young asked about his role for next year and Young was blunt with him. The only players CMY is forcing out are lazy or discipline issues.

If CMY really did force Young out, then he'll just be the latest guy who leaves the team only to find success in another D1 program. Jaydon averaged 16 ppg over the final six games, against some good teams no less (Clemson, Louisville, UNC). You could tell it was really starting to come together for him.
