On a serious note.. I have no clue why Whit Babcocks charter is apparently spend as little money as possible on everything. It's certainly not "win at sports". He is literally a CFO first, sports boss second. Mind boggling.

in 2024-2025 when you "defund" a program, you fucking lose a lot of games, players, donations, and general interest in the program. It's a brilliant strategy really.
We could be a bigger fish. We choose not to be. Which really helps with fundraising needed to be said big fish.

Its almost like when you defund a program it causes cascading issues like players calling the team ass in interviews and everyone leaving as soon as they possibly can.

Yes- give me 10 wins from March 15-April 1st on a fluke ass luck run with a shit roster any day of the week vs. sitting at home- not being on any bracket shows, not being on 1 shining moment, etc. The only thing that matters is march. The only thing that matters is the NCAA tournament- that is when millions are watching and paying attention to your program- and oh, the only way to win a national title is to be in the fucking tournament. A random nc state team who finished 10th in the ACC came 2 wins away from that last year. But you have to be in the fucking tournament to do that. When Shaka and Gregg Marshall were gaming the RPI- they got it. Both went all in to get to march- that's what mattered. Both scored millions of dollars in contracts. They didn't do that and raise the proile of their programs winning december games. Get with the fucking program Whit. Or go 12-100 again. Either one.

Yeah, that is possible. She did manage to scrounge enough together to make the next leg, but I'm not sure if some of the things that were taken in Kaltag were things that she would have needed later on and didn't have. Had to be a mental shot too, so fair point.

If the team was not up to it though, she made the right call. That "in the best interest interest of her team" language is what people say when they don't give specifics, so we do not know how she or the team were doing. She did scratch and was not withdrawn by race officials. Unless someone hinted that to her, but I had not seen anything more.
I returned home to Richmond on Friday evening from my now annual winter sojourn to the American west, covering 9271 miles round trip from Richmond to Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana and back in two months. I spent a lot of time in my old haunts, including Aspen, Steamboat and Jackson Hole, and explored several new ones, specifically Telluride, Island Park, Ennis, Big Sky, Bozeman and Casper.
Thirty days of snowboarding was awesome but I did get in ten days of trout fishing as well. It's hard to decide between the two (and work) at times. First world problems, I know... I fished the Gunnison for a few days, Roaring Fork in Aspen (where I learned to guide), Gros Ventre in Jackson Hole, The Henry's Fork in Idaho, Madison outside Ennis and Bozeman, the Wind / Bighorn in Thermopolis and the Grey Reef in Casper. If I had to pick my favorite three, its the RF, Gunni and Wind.
Next year I'd like to spend more time on the Madison, which is a weird river considering it's basically a foot deep, 50 mile riffle the whole way. It's seemingly built for swinging wets and small streamers. The views and valley it runs through are the holy grail of fly fishing. I'd also like to fish the Yellowstone around Livingston. The day I had planned to was blowing 50 mph and it was literally a sand storm outside. The guys at Hatchmatcher fly shop said March is the time of the year to catch your personal best Brown on that river, with a bunch of fish 7 pounds and up. Thermopolis WY has the best trout fishing in the country, period. I hooked 7 rainbows one day, all over 20." Two came to hand at 21-22". The rest either broke me off or straightened the size 18 hook. All sight cast while wading. The next day I only landed one over twenty and a few more 18-19".
I had a very successful day wading the Gunnison in late January. The fish were sipping midges but being extremely picky. Finally having enough refusals, I broke out my top smallmouth streamer and stripped it past their faces. Seven browns ate it! Idaho smelled like cow manure the whole time and the Henry's Fork was cool but crowded (it was a balmy Sunday.) The Roaring Fork in Aspen was tricky but special as it always is. The Gros Ventre is a summer fishery outside Jackson, only whitefish seem to bite in the Winter. I'll be back for them. A day spent driving around the north entrance of Yellowstone was phenomenal. Hundreds of Bison, a curious coyote and Ravens that like to have conversations in front of your truck make protecting public lands well worth it.
I went into more fly shops than I can count. Kelly Galloup's was the best stocked one but unfortunately he wasn't around. I also bought 85 saddles at the Denver Fly Fishing show for earring production. Good to be home to sit on my couch but I sure do miss being constantly outside and dirtbagging it, sleeping in my box trailer, surviving off of handmade paninis and showering at natural hot springs.
There were no vehicle or trailer issues, what a miracle!

Exactly. VT continues to be "special" in the worst possible way. We can't buyout coaches, we can't pay womens assistant coaches, we can't do NIL for basketball AND football, the list fucking goes on. I'm certain a big part of our 26 strategy will be mike young "coaching them up" again. But if we were serious about winning, we would stop fucking being pennywise and pound foolish and invest in the program. The only thing that matters in hoops is the NCAA tourney. If you aren't in it- you are irrelevant. Period. So perhaps if we made the fucking tournament we would get more investment and interest in the program, eh? Look at programs with sustained/regular NCAA bids that aren't Duke and Kansas- Creighton, St. Mary's, Marquette, SD State, etc. but VT- a supposed high major- is special to the tune of not making the NCAA's more than not. Definition of insanity.
I didn't like him, but he was an extremely talented writer and wrote good books. Definitely gone too soon.
