Only relevant because it happened today but
I have a friend (who already has had tremendous challenges in her life) that has a brain tumor and had an an appointment this morning at 9. She called me about 1pm and it's good news-the bad part is it IS cancer but the GOOD part is it has shrunken some and they are giving her a medication that she can take (a pill) in lieu of having to go in for chemotherapy and eventually should be able to remove it entirely, so she won't miss work nor have to tell them about it or to worry her parents by telling them either. So happy for her!! God is great!!
So I am behind on updates so here are a few highlights from last week:
Nate Paris was announced as Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Stuart Pirtle was named Men's Freshman Athlete of the Week for their performance this past weekend at the Doc Hale Elite Meet in Rector last weekend.
- Paris set a new program record and the U23 Canadian record in the heptathlon with 5,858 points which beat the previous VT record by 33 points. He had career bests in 5 of the 7 events. That total puts him 16th best in the world to date this year, 1st in the ACC and 5th in the NCAA.
- Pirtle score 5,284 points that puts him #4 All-Time at VT in his collegiate debut. That puts him 6th in the ACC and 52nd in the NCAA.
Additional notes from the Doc Hale Meet
- George Couttie took the win in the mile and the program record with a time of 3:55.44 which was a PB by 6 seconds. That is good for 4th in the ACC and 25th in NCAA
- Katie Bohlke became the ACC's 2nd fastest freshman in the 1 mile with a time of 4:40.48 which was also good for 10th best all-time at VT.
- Nick Plant set a PB and Rector facility record in the 800m with 1:46.85 to take the win.
- Christian Jackson ran a 1:47.18 in the 800m which moves him to 5th best all time at VT.
- Star Price got her first 800m win of the season with a 2:03.74 which is good for 5th best in the ACC this season and 19th in the NCAA.
- Caitlyn Bobb ran a 53.58 in the 400m in her VT 400m debut which places her #6 All Time at VT and good for 4th in the ACC this season. She was just 0.08 off the Bermuda National Record.
- Barbora Stejfova moved up to 6th All Time in the Women's Weight with 20.43 m which is good for #6 on the VT All Time list and 4th in the ACC this season.
- Caitlyn Bobb shattered the program 500m record by over a second and broke the Bermuda National Record with a time of 1:10.54. That's good for 3rd in the NCAA this season and 0.08 seconds off the USTFCCCA All-Time Top 25 list. Star Price set a PB of 1:12.30 which put her at #5 on the VT All Time list and 9th in the NCAA. Krystalann Bechard ran a PB of 1:14.29 to slide in the the #10 VT All Time list and the #22 spot in the NCAA this season.
- JLIV, another day another record. He broke the program record in the 500m with a 1:01.22 which puts him #17 All Time in the NCAA and gives him the national lead this season. Then Tomas Kersulis ran a 1:02.01 which puts him #2 All Time at VT.
- Both the men's and women's DMR won their events
- Julia Fixsen won the pole vault with 4.53m and Lyndsey Reed cleared 4.32 which moves her to #9 on the VT All-Time list and is good for 3rd in the ACC and 26th Nationally.
This week the Hokies are at three different meets. Sprints, Hurdles, Throws and Pole Vault are at the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson. Distance is at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Jumps and Multis are at the Don Kirby Elite meet in Albuquerque, NM.
Game is being live streamed on ESPN+ and should be live on ACCN for anyone that cares to watch
I think this is fair, but clearly the past 3 years we have had a glaring lack of "knowledge of how to win CFB games at the highest level" on the coaching staff. I was hoping we'd address that with the DC hire and we didn't. Bowen leaving presents another opportunity to address this and it looks like we're going to strike out again. The formula of first time HC + 2 young up-and-comer coordinators has produced unacceptable results for 3 years. Siefkes and Taylor at least have experience calling plays, but do not represent a serious departure from that losing formula.
Innovation and fresh ideas are awesome, but we need someone who knows how to win a damn football game!

I don't know, but if you were a successful (and that's what we're talking about here) OC at a P4 school (forget P2), what would make you want to leave there to come to VT, where the head coach is looking at one year to turn things around?
Other than throwing gobs of money at someone, I can't think of a single reason that a successful OC would want to leave their P4 school to come here, versus staying where they are, creating more track record of success, and waiting for a more attractive position to open. And we don't have gobs of money.
I would say those wagering odds depend greatly on who is actually hired as the OC (and who his support staff is). If that ever happens...

I think 7-8 wins is the absolute minimum for Pry in '25. Unless he has some dirt on Whit that he can use as leverage, a win total like that is going to get him the pink slip.

Once again, maybe my biggest pet peeve with VT coaches is the total inability to get QBs to actually grow and develop. Hasn't happened since Tyrod. Had another chance with Drones last year and ... nope. Have 2 chances next year with Pop and Drones. Let's see if the staff can do anything positive with either one of them. I've got very low expectations and, until I actually see otherwise, will assume no. Hopefully the staff can prove me wrong. I mean Georgia did eventually learn to beat Alabama, so it can happen.
Lady Hokies beat UT Arlington 8-0. Still have not allowed a run this season. Pitchers only allowed 2 hits and had 7 strikeouts. They take on Northwestern at 2:30 PM
Yes, his time at W&M. I think the learning curve from FCS to P4 coordinator isn't that big. Perhaps you disagree with that - you're welcome to.
