I seem to recall early VT football taking flack for giving guys with questionable pasts a 2nd chance and in some cases having success and not in others.
Issue this year is that ACC did so badly in OOC noncon that it's likely only a handful of ACC teams get in. It is insane, though, that espn bracketology currently has 13-10 UNC (6-5 ACC) as last four in while Wake forest (16-6, 8-3) and SMU (17-5, 8-3) are last four out and Stanford (15-7, 7-4) not even on the bubble.
UNC is 45 in NET while SMU is 41, Wake is 69, Stanford is 72... and VT is 159.
I enjoyed my free biscuit this morning thanks to SMU and them actually fouling with 13 seconds to go. Biscuits looked like a sure thing at 3:30 seconds left in the game and then we went on a 3:17 second scoring drought.
Keeping the team together is my big worry. It is against the rules to tamper, but you know other teams are going to be calling Lawal and offering to back up a dump truck of cash.
I blame Louisville and Paterno- 100%. If Louisville weren't scum looking out only for themselves, the Metro could have been the foundation of a great hoops league. If Paterno would have listened to Pitt and Bobby Bowden, we would have been part of a legit BE football conference and would have come out on top in the ACC poaching war. FSU, VT, PSU, WVU, Louisville, Pitt- that is better than UNC, Duke, Wake, etc. But Joepa wanted to stay independent- so fuck him too.
Definitely. The Metro -> A10 -> BE journey in the 90s was rough and not being accepted in all sports in 91 and again in 94 by the BE was downright criminal.

I see your point, but given where the program is right now (funding, etc.) can CMY afford to not take chances? I can envision a scenario where Miller talked a good game about his lack of involvement, maybe enough to fool a staff that just lost damn near everyone in the portal.
Right, and the fact we were fucked by that league in hoops - denied membership and then asked to pay millions while other teams were not- I'm sure had no bearing on our struggles. I loved beating Beoheim in the ACC- fucking prick - so fucking overrated doing less with more for 40 years, but wanted to kill VT basketball. Fuck that guy a million ways to Sunday.
The Big East was like this, and VT missed the conference tourney every year except their last one in the conference.

"Then that guy was dismissed because he was being investigated for point shaving."- Something that escalates that quickly should have been caught by the staff. That's on Young, IMO. There are no secrets anymore. That Temple investigation was front page news long before Miller signed. He was in that program- maybe not take that chance?
"Can someone clarify whether this extension brings in more money for ACC teams? "- much appreciated. I always need a good laugh on a monday morning. Thank you.

# | Notre Dame expected to play at least two of Clemson, Miami and FSU each season as part of new ACC/ESPN deal. Can someone clarify whether this extension brings in more money for ACC teams? If not, when are we eligible to negotiate for a better TV contract?
The Doncic trade is simply example 456,890 of the NBA being a television drama series and not a competitive league. It's simply not a serious professional competitive league. The Mavs traded arguably the best player in the fucking league for a load management overrated big that is 6 years older. If they are worried about Luca being "out of shape" AD is no better when he takes off 1/3 of the season or is injured like he is every year. The mavs- along with the wizards, hornets and jazz - who are all openly tanking (which is allowed by the TV show) aren't serious about competing. They are scheming as part of the TV plot. If it was a serious league, grown men in their physical prime wouldn't need off work 2 nights a week at their 48 minute per day job. If it was a serious league, you wouldn't need an in season tournament that means nothing in terms of competition to garner "interest" because nobody tries hard until the playoffs. If it was a serious league, Harden being a bum every off season, Kyrie refusing to play, etc. wouldn't be tolerated. This totally laughable trade (Mahomes for Matt Stafford is a very good analogy) is simply another example. Ratings are down roughly 1 million percent. Wonder why.
He had a veteran point guard two weeks before the season started. Then that guy was dismissed because he was being investigated for point shaving. Young also had a really good scoring 2-guard from UTSA committed, then that guy got a better offer and went somewhere else.
Putting Hysier Miller's legal issues aside (because Young almost certainly didn't know about that until he booted him), if we have those two guards on the team, this is probably a tournament team.
I feel like the OL and the defensive playcalling/adjustments are bound to be upgrades.
We should be pretty good at QB.
Yeah, let's see if VT gets treated like an actual ACC team come tournament time. Meaning a 6 seed - like Syracuse, NC State, UNC, Duke would get in any other year with our same record. Let's see.
We haven't won 8 games in 5 years. By any objective measure/data- the 24 team was more talented than this team is going to be. We don't know if the new coaches are upgrades or not at this point. I'd take under 6.5 wins and feel good about it. Schedule is tougher (on paper) in 25 as well.
If a D2 kid is our 2 deep at corner- we have huge effing problems. Huge.
LMFAO- Like McAfee this year - these people don't watch the fucking games. Yeah, we play a lot of one score games- against bad teams of course. We never get a critical stop on defense. We can never move the ball consistently on offense against a good team. Its a huge tuten run or long 50/50 ball. This is a 5-6 win team in 2025 at best if you actually watch the games. New OL, huge questions at safety, no depth at corner, lost 4-5 NFL prospects and gained zero. We need to be real. We are not competing for ACC Championships anymore.
Imagine this lineup: Maddux, Rice, Buchannon, Schutt and Poteat. - With Hammond, Rech, Burnham role players. That is a tournament team, IMO. Young actually landed those players. Keeping them has been his issue and a different story.
Maimi paid Lynn Kidd half a million dollars and they fucking suck- James Johnson level suck. 1-20 in their last 21 ACC games. Kidd really made a difference there. Huge with endorsements in south beach too. What Young needed this year was a veteran point guard- a guy like Caleb Love - to run the show. That would have helped. Also could have used a 6 to play 6 guy in the paint like Hunter Dickenson. Those 2 would have been huge for us.

it was a unilateral option for ESPN. And they picked up the option. ACC continues to be AFed by a terribly negotiated contract.
But hey, at least we have reruns of UNC Duke from the 80s on the ACCN.
