Young has always been able to coach, that was never in doubt when he was hired, recruiting managing a program this size, those were the worried, but he can flat out coach. I don't think he's ever really had an "ACC" roster . He had some good players but if you look at all acc selections he's had two players selelected and most of the top ACC have had 2 in a single year since 2020.
I just found out that they only let top 15 teams play in ACCT... kinda crazy that we have reached a point where teams can miss their own conference tournament
I would love to see what Young could do if he was provided the resources to buy a proper ACC roster (I also really hate that this is what it's come to)
.500 for the season, most likely not.
.500 in ACC play, much better prognosis at this point now that we have seen how bad the rest of the conference is this season. As mentioned above they should have a good chance in 6 or 7 of the remaining ACC games. Five wins is believable.
Is it a realistic goal? Yes. Is it a realistic expectation? Probably not. Here's how it breaks down:
Virginia Tech is 10-12 and 5-6 in the conference with 9 more conference game. So they'd need to go 6-3 in those 9 games to finish at 16-15.
-They play 17-5 SMU next.
-Then their next 4 games are against 10-11 ND, 10-12 UVA, 10-11 BC and 5-17 Miami (4 bad teams with a combined record of 35-50)
-They finish with 4 games against 16-6 Louisville, 10-12 Syracuse, 13-10 UNC and 18-4 Clemson (combined 56-32).
Do we see 6 wins in there? Probably not. But if they somehow do finish above .500 Mike Young deserves at least some coach of the year votes.

It would be difficult to meet that goal. I'll be rooting for them to make it there and beyond every game. Let's Go!!
Have to find a way to avenge the UVA loss. Really hoping we don't get swept by them and that the loss to them doesn't end up costing us.
After the non-con 6 game losing streak I wasn't sure if we'd win 3 games in the ACC, so my expectations have already been surpassed. I think 8-12 is likely in conference but it could happen if we steal a few. The team is starting to play more cohesively and if we miraculously can keep the right core intact to stay, we could have a decent outlook in a weakened ACC in the next few years. CMY still knows how to coach...but can he keep anybody on the roster? We shall see
Yeah defense to me is just an absolutely huge question mark. I think Woodson, Copeland, Gilliam, Burgos, and Lovett play a lot, and all except Woodson we know what position. There are a ton young guys in the secondary who could either surprise or disappoint along with all the transfers. Then there are the DL transfers who again we have no idea how they'll actually stack up to what we already have, both established and underclassmen.

Yeah, but he had, you know, real division 1 players that year. This feels like he's just coaching his ass off getting A LOT from guys that are pretty happy to be here.

Actually, after today's result, we are 6-5. We "should" be able to finish 5-2 for a 11-7 conference record (20-9 overall).

It is Groundhog Day.
We are 15-7 (6-5), 9th in the ACC and 2.5 games out of the double-bye.
Our remaining games are: v Syracuse (8-13, 2-8), @UVA (12-11, 4-7), @UNC (20-4, 8-3), v Stanford (11-10, 3-7), v Cal, (19-4, 7-3), @BC (13-11, 4-7), and @Clem (11-11, 4-7).
If we beat just the teams with losing conference records, we'd finish 20-9, 10-7 in conference. 20 wins isn't completely out of the cards.
1. Duffy's doing a fantastic job, considering we didn't have enough scholarship players to form a starting lineup when she got here.
2. Imagine what this team can do when they have more experience and a true 5 down low, and the quality of the incoming freshmen.
3. While I doubt we can get to the double-bye, I do think a bye is absolutely achievable. Hopefully, something better than the 8/9 game.

First and foremost, great to see these players representing themselves well, but it also has to make one question even more just how dysfunctional the Coaching is here.
There has been a lot of focus on defensive shortcomings, but there are pretty clear issues offensively as well.
Lane was probably the most explosive WR yet had less production as the year went on. Combined against Syracuse, Clemson, and Duke he had 5 catches for 22 yards.
Felton had some highlights but was largely the same player that he was when he arrived. Not much notable development.
It doesn't speak highly of any part of this Staff really.
Kinda my point - now it's less about recruiting and more about dangling a bag of cash - if he had the resources to buy a roster, we'd have a killer squad
