I would have to imagine with having a year of development at C in Moore's system and as a top high school recruit, you can write Altuner's name in pen as starter. I honestly don't know who else would even be in real competition with him based on current roster. Maybe can get an C in the Spring portal, but good experienced OL in the Spring portal (1) hard to get and (2) 15 practice days and several dozen hours of film behind.
They should be looking for a C in the Spring portal to develop behind Altuner. And of course, if the unicorn does exist in the Spring portal, you do what you can to get him to Blacksburg.
Keep in mind he's not taxed at California rates for the entire salary, only for games played in CA, so 41 + whatever road games against the Clippers, and GSW, plus maybe bonuses, depending on what is residence is.
And how many less games than Buzz due to COVID? That's impressive feat, for sure. Especially when other coaches that rely on development all over the ACC have just straight up quit. Young is a fighter. A true Fighting Gobbler.

Joking aside, I honestly do think he is the right coach for VT right now. He might not be making chicken cordon bleu, but he's making chicken salad with the scraps he got.
And I do hope that he can somehow get a collection of players that want to play for Mike Young. Develop and grow them in the program like Aluma, Mutts, and all his players at Wofford. I think those days may be gone, but if he could somehow get a core to stick with him, VT would be pretty decently good and making tournaments again.

We lost our top 5 scorers from last season, 8 of our top 10; our top 3 rebounders; and 7 of 8 who contributed at least 10 minutes per game; and the projecting starting PG was kicked off the team right before the beginning of the season.
We are not and never will be one of the blue bloods who can fill a roster of McDonalds All Americans, send them all to the league, and replace them all with another full roster of McDonalds All Americans.
And yet despite all of that, we're only averaging 4.9 ppg less than last year, while allowing 1.6 ppg more, rebounding at 1.5 rpg better, while holding opponents to 0.7 rpg less, hitting 3s at 2.5% better rates, holding opponents to 0.8% less
6 wins would put Young 1 win shy of Chuck Noe for 3rd best all-time.
Any postseason wins would move him squarely into the top 3, within 3 years' striking distance of Seth Greenberg for 2nd and maybe 5-6 years' of Moir's record.
My niece is dancing during pregame. But, I don't hold out much hope of them being shown on tv. Hoping to catch a glimpse though. Otherwise, going to have to rely on family members for video; they're attending.
Love to see these guys showing out. Hoping they all get drafted and ball out next level. However, why the hell didn't all this talent result in more on field success? We clearly had struggles with O-line, LB and secondary play but it seems like there was enough talent on this team to produce better than .500 record. Coaching performance has definitely been called out and changes are happening but after seeing these guys perform I think the coaching was worse than I realized. Don't want to be negative on a post with great news about our guys but this just kind left me feeling like we really squandered an opportunity to move the program forward while we had these gifted athletes.

Yeah Oline is super hard to project. Rimac is the only one i am 100% sure will start. I think the OT from WVU will probably start just because of bodies at tackle but nor sure LT or RT. I hope some one is learning to play center because Nitta was not it in the bowl game.

Just kidding, I'm actually on Team Optimism for 2025. I don't think we'll be world beaters, but the roster is fairly solid, and I think we've probably upgraded the OL and DC coaches. I could see between 6 and 8 wins, if we can avoid 2024's facepalm moments.

Lol right? It's hard to imagine the Mavs being a real team, but they've made some head scratchers in the past that have worked out.
Seeing pundits suggest Spencer Dinwiddie is going to step into the Doncic role and be nearly as productive made me laugh out loud. Dinwiddie is OK and has had moments of top play but never consistently.
He won't be losing endorsements necessarily, but now a high number of his endorsements will be subject to California income tax rather than Texas that has no income tax. The losing will be in the income tax, which is 12.3% or more. I am sure his accountants and agent will work to mitigate that but that's a large amount to have to mitigate.
I am sure there will be be a few Dallas specific endorsements he loses but probably gains similar ones in LA.

This is harder to judge with not knowing what defense we will run, kind of
- Burgos looked great in the spring game but eh all season, Nelson has been good but not great and both had a lot of help from Peebles and APR this year, Bell, Djonkam are both not APR and Nash is not Peebles, but that's okay if our defense plays like 1 team and not 3. Siefkes can hid coverages and give the DLine more time which they are good enough to take advantage of but they arent going to be the disruptive force that Peebles and APR were
- Linebackers depending on whats going on could be a lot better, Djonkam played MLB and was a very good one. Woodson got better as the season went on, and Bass hopefully brings some solid LB play (he's already acting like a UGA player so we have that going for us) and Williams hopefully can overcome what was just a horrible time for him, I know everyone here wishes him the best.
- CBs are a down grade, they might be good, but they arent Delane and Strong. They might have better years because Safety play is better, but there are some huge shoes to fill
- The Safeties/unknown LB/S/CB position could be a lot better. Jenkins was very good in his role so he will be harder to replace but Mose just wasn't in position most of the time and he could have been coaching as he was always too high. It will be interesting to see who plays where but Covil, Cash, Flowers all bring talent that is needed.
So while most units are not as individually as good, the biggest issue with our defense was there was a lot of individual play. If we can play as a unit and adjust we can be a lot better. We were the 39th defense in scoring and 57th in yards and both of those were heavily added in the 2nd half of games. Just making adjustments would have won us Miami (21-10 2nd half), Cuse (35-17 2nd half) and maybe Clemson (24-7 2nd half)
Had trouble getting the game up on ESPN+. Got to watch the ladies clamp down to open up the score.
