Facts. This is the stuff that has been destroying the conference brand for a decade now.
Yet continues to sit behind Chase Brown who averaged 3.4 ypc. 20 carries for 67 yards.

The ACC isn't doing anything to fight back against ESPN's narrative that we suck and our teams are undeserving. Only Syracuse has managed to win their bowl game. The rest of the ACC is busy losing to ECU, Toledo, and UCONN.

The biggest thing imo was the botched ACCN launch.
- BTN was announced in 2006, launched in 2007
- SECN was announced in 2013, launched in 2014
- The ACCN was announced in 2016, launched in 2019
So much went wrong.
100% agree - I put the inflection point at 2010/2011. That's when, as I like to say, the world changed and we missed the opportunity to do anything about it.
I was talking about this general topic with a friend last night - one of the less visible things to the casual observer that's happened is the changes to the middle of the sport at all levels. There's so much more talent on the typical middling SEC and BIG team now that playing the #6 or #7 BIG/SEC team is comparable to playing a top ACC or B12 team. Rutgers may be average, for the BIG, but the level of talent they have is just so much higher. The peaks are much higher, but so is the floor in the P2.
Very good chance that our depleted roster gets rolled by Minnesota's depleted roster next weekend. And then we will open against an actually pretty good USCe team in 2025.

I agree, I'm just saying this isn't just a marketing thing (and ACC schools/leadership share a lot of the blame). The ACC's on the field on the field product has been underwhelming for a while now. And that started before the SEC circle jerk was mainstream.
Yea, the playing field was more level in 2006, when conferences were smaller, and the monied programs were more evenly distributed across 5+ conferences.
Yes, the SEC has a brand that no other conference (including the B10) has. That's all marketing. And within the last decade, it's paid dividends for SCar, Ole Miss, and the traditional SEC little and middle class.
But SEC schools have won more national titles than any other conference. In the last 20 seasons, only thrice has the SEC had a losing record in out of conference games (source). This post from 6 years ago shows that the ACC preforms worse against the G5 than the SEC.
TL;DR, two things can be true:
- The ACC middle class has a many-decade history of underachieving, which has hurt the conference brand.
- The SEC middle class has benefited greatly from marketing.
Either an idiot or a talking head with programming slots to fill, but I repeat myself.
Yeah, the money thing is going to rip the knob off. And while the occasional David might be a Goliath here and there on the long run it's a stratification of the sport. The NCAA either through inaction or direct decisions has made things less competitive and interesting for anyone who isn't in the top 10% of the sport and that's a real shame. So much ink and eyeball minutes are spent on the playoff, when the vast majority of the participants are playing a completely different grade of the sport. This isn't just a VT problem.
Indeed. The ACC circle of suck is as strong as a black hole to overcome my bad luck. Now I can actually watch the recording as something came up yesterday and I could not watch live.
Have you checked in on Cam Underwood? All I could think about during the second half of the annual sacrificing of the Pop-Tart was his commentary on your pod about this season being a failure with anything less than a playoff berth.

Nah, I think VPI is a bit closer to it. The constant pro-SEC propaganda that's been clogging up the airwaves since about 2006 has never had more of a grounding in reality than it does right now. The playing field was a lot more level when it started.
Pete here. I think your posts are "lazy clueless commentary". If you ever listened to our show you'd recognize the amount of research we do and knowledge we share on VT and college football in general. Most people do recognize it, that's why our show has increased listenership over 45% in 2024 (wild but true).
The 2003 thing is bizarre - like everyone else I'm not sure what you mean, but I imagine it's something like I'm "stuck in the past". If being stuck in the past means I don't think VT should be .500 every year, then yeah, I am, sue me. I think most on TKP agree that VT shouldn't be some mom and pop program. You're a hater, and that's fine. Won't be my first or last.

Even after the ass kicking BYU put on Colorado, these were the headlines and slant afterwards....which was exactly how the broadcast crew called the game.
