This tells me that Pry just absolutely does not want to fire his buddies. More concerned with soft landing spots than making necessary staff moves. VT football - the more things change the more they remain the same.

Considering a raise of 175k would make him t-15th highest paid NFL defensive coordinator, I don't see a massive upside in going up, and he'd definitely take a pay cut to become a position coach.
But if the League is his dream, that's a decision he'd have to make with his family.
Per many interviews I've heard over the last 3 to 5 years, Babcock has been preparing for this. On sthe Sons of Saturday podcast a few years ago, he even said that he thought VT was better positioned to compete in a world where they can pay players directly than in a collective-based NIL world.
if UVA is behind the chains after first down, TO is the percentage move for Pry and I'm not complaining. But they weren't and Pry should at least take a couple of seconds to see what Elliot is going to do...like calling TO.
It's so wild to me that this coaching tree is so bare. Foster was a legend. Pry was very successful as a DC.
I get the flexbone comps, but there are a plethora of coaches out there who could run the flexbone. Not only that, but you've seen the flexbone evolve (I've read of the 'Tex-bone, the gun-triple, etc). Doesn't seem like there's a modernization of this scheme either?

# | Hokie Hoops Central: Jacksonville (2-2) at Virginia Tech (3-1) 7pm ESPN+/ACCNX Following this up, it came out today in long form that JU is tens of millions in debt, their plan to restructure and get commitments to help lower debt, raise tuition and enrollment fell through and they failed an audit. That money may be only thing keeping their basketball team alive after this season. (But seriously they should be cutting football and some other programs)

Virginia Tech's offense averaged 29.7 points a game in 2024, which is tied for 53rd out of 133 in the country. The defense was tied for 44th in the country at 22.8 points allowed per game.

# | VT, UVa, UNC and NC State fined and reprimanded by the ACC for weekend fights I've only seen stills so far, just got back to town, but I would argue there was at least some justification for it during the pileon when officers were trying to separate people and others were trying to join in. That's pretty classic case of reason to use OC spray, large unruly crowd that can overwhelm officers ability to restore command.
I was on the field after we beat BC in 1999 to get to the National Championship game.
Last year, we were 0-3 in 1 score games, lost 1 by 19, 1 by 22, and 1 by 31.
In losses, we were a net -93 or -15.5; in wins, we were a net +135, or +22.5
This year we were 0-5 in one score games, and our worst loss was by 10.
In losses, we were a net -34, or -5.66; in wins we were a net +117, or +19.5
So, this year, we played a tougher schedule and played them tighter. We lost small and won big. Last year, we played a weaker overall schedule, winning big and losing big.
Two years ago, we won small, and lost big, with the average win being by 12.7, and our average loss being by -12.5, and only one of our wins was against a winning team.
Every year has shown improvement.
I know we give Pry shit about not winning close games, but in 2020 and 2021, Fu was only +1 in 6 years in one score games.
Even Beamer was only +1 during the bowl streak, and prior to that he was 8-16-2
And the VT-UVA pregame shenanigans were definitely a dustup at best.

Probably confusing because the BCS was the predecessor to the playoffs. I'm assuming you're referring to their 2022 season they wound up 13-2 playoff run. But Fuente was hired as an analyst at Indiana in 2023, with no other analyst jobs listed. I think he was still living in Blacksburg in 2022 I thought I had read.
