Beer: I've been holding onto a couple bottles of Three Floyd's Wig Splitter, a well regarded Oatmeal Stout from a fantastic brewery. Now that we're in full HYPE mode, I think it's time to crack one open.
I just think it's amazing we are close to half way thru the season and VT isn't eliminated from the CFP discussion! Good times.
I think the defense feeds off the offense, and vice versa. It has to help boost the defense that when they force a turnover or get a big stop, they know the offense is going to do something good with the ball.
Also, when the defense rarely does give up a big play, it's not the end of the world because we're already up a bunch of points(e.g. ECU early 3rd qtr).

I don't think there is any way the committee leaves a one-loss ACC Champion out of the playoff. Especially if that loss is to a top 10 team as ours is.
I think our 2-deep on the front four has also panned out better which us allows to rotate without much of a drop-off. I also agree with others that the defense being able to play a bit looser due to the offenses capability has a play in it. As stated above, Bud said he wanted to get back to more of a zone look. However the past few years injuries and inexperience hurt us in employing that. We have guys with experience and everyone is relatively healthy as well. The front 4 (8 really) are playing great and LB play has improved dramatically as well. I also think new blood in the defense coaching staff plays a role as well. I don't go to practice so it's hard to know exactly what the new defensive coaches are doing as opposed to old and we only hear from Bud in the media. But either way I like it.
Ridiculous stat: Richmond has more grocery store chains per capita than any other city in America:
If we're sticking to just the city, we have to take out those stores that only appear in Short Pump or Midlothian, which takes Wegmans and Whole Foods off the list.
Also, Giant and Martin's are part of the same corporate family, but none are branded as Giant in the Richmond area.

There are many factors that make a DC's job much easier. In our example, better line play, better linebacker play from Moto, and increased chemistry and experience in the secondary have all contributed to Bud being able to call games differently and is allowing him to play his chess match a little more with the opposing offense because he trusts his guys to execute and not make alignment/mental errors consistently.
Another example, the last three years Clemson has had elite defensive line play, enormous, fast guys that are all at least 275 lbs and it has given Brent Venables a tremendous amount of slack in his line. I think there have been glaring weaknesses in their defense each of the last three years, but they are covered up for the most part by superb line play.

To all the lurkers out there who never/almost never post and therefore don't feel as compelled to join, I was once one of you. But I realized that, despite the fact that I don't engage in the community discussions as much as many, this website is still my escape when I need it. I easily spend more time here than anywhere else on the interwebs (with sites #2 - #7 being unmentionable on a SFW site), and I look forward to the great articles and funny banter on pretty much an hourly basis.
If you find yourself on the fence like I was, please help support this site for many great years of Hokie football to come. I know not everyone is in the financial position to do so, which is understandable, but you can't make a much better $7/month commitment than this. Hell, I pay $9 a month for Netflix and I definitely log more time on here than that.

Came here to say this. I've been saying since the beginning of this season that if the defense can stay healthy, it allows Bud to throw more zone looks at a defense -- something that is deadly when used by Foster.
