Thanks for the update and information. I'm more worried about the amount of rain. Norfolk floods in a lot of places when we just have a decent rain storm. Last time we got hit by a hurricane (maybe Irene) water was approaching my front porch steps. We've had a lot of rain recently, I'm interested in what the storm surge will be. Thanks again for the great insight.

Murrells Inlet - you're in for a doozy eye of the storm looks like its going to be right off shore. The track seems to be moving slightly more west with each model run which isn't good news for anybody. The Euro ensemble has you getting over 10" of rain which isn't unreasonable, more frighteningly though due to your proximity to the sea (not sure if you're oceanfront or not but according to a quick search on a map you have to be pretty damn close) storm surge is a large concern for you. Be prepared for quite a ride this looks to be a really dangerous system and you will be among the most affected people. If you're going to try to wade it out I recommend you prepare accordingly and I'll be hoping to hear from you after the system passes through.

Norfolk - While you're not getting a direct hit you're still getting hit pretty hard by the front left quadrant of the storm (which while it isnt the most intense portion is still a freaking hurricane). While it will lose a little muster over NC and SC i still fully expect it to be a very dangerous system and probably still a cat 1 hurricane in the area.

Richmond - For now it seems that Richmond will be spared by this entire ordeal, however should the models continue to move further inland (which is a possibility) you'll see a spike from half an inch of rain to something like 5" of rain very quickly. For now it seems that Richmond only needs to be concerned about outflow from the Hurricane making some rain bands but overall you should be ok. Again keep an eye on everything this could easily trend a little more inland and lest northeasterly as the system hits shore

Roanoke Rapids - further south from Richmond so you're going to be getting what Richmond basically could get should the storm shift west a little bit (although if it shifts more this forecast could get worse for you as well...) however at this point you're looking at approximately 5" of rain and some pretty decent wind although nothing like the coastlines could be seeing.

I expect the storm to be right off the coast of SC myrtle beach region around 1 PM Saturday although rain will probably begin before then. Stay safe guys, I'm going to do a final forecast on Wed when everything should be certain I have some jaw dropping photos from this storm already and will see if i cant gather some footage after it makes landfall over the Carribean Islands for the write-up

Younger Hokies might not be aware, but VT played a game against Texas A&M in the remains of a hurricane in the early 2000's at Lane. Maybe the NCAA policy is if they can swim, they can play? As long as Lee Corso's car isn't around? The water pouring down the stands was insane, but it was a great game atmosphere. A punt was almost the most dangerous play in the game because the wind was swirling so strong, nobody could figure out where it was going to field it. I know A&M fumbled one, maybe two during the game. Pretty certain D.Hall muffed one too.

I'm still waiting for my BCA game refund from that cancelled game, by the way.

We've actually always said that Butch was a poor mans Les Miles. They do a lot of the same type of stuff and if. Itching else they're both just really goofy people. Right now we're cashing in on a decade worth of shots to the nuts. Hopefully we have enough credit to pay the tab all the way through January.

Does the NCAA have a policy when it comes to hurricanes? I could only find stuff about lightning and delaying the game.

It seems Beamer stepped down at the right time. Last year, the marquee open jobs were UGA, Miami, VT, and USCali. USC and UGA being the only schools that are true blue bloods. But USC AD Haden was sick and retiring, so he hired the guy that was easiest. UGA and Miami probably didn't seriously consider Fuente, and Fuente didn't seriously consider them back. So, it was perfect and natural for the Fuente to VT hire.

This year, though, with LSU, Texas, ND, and USCali (with new AD Lynn Swann, yes THAT Lynn Swann) among any other schools that may have their coach bolt (e.g. FSU), it would have been difficult for VT to hire a coach the caliber of Fuente. I would imagine Fuente would have a hard time not listening to any of those schools, even if they didn't offer that serene setting that makes Blacksburg great to raise your kids.

Look for structure. Best spots are breaks in the bar- you can spot those by finding places where the current looks like it is sucking out where around it the waves are coming in. Lip of the beach, outside of the bar, and inside of the bar are lesser spots.
