Because the defender's intrusion offsides or into the neutral zone incited the offensive player's movement.
If a defender encroaches into the neutral zone and causes an offensive player to react, it is an offsides/encroachment penalty on the defense.
If a defender moves laterally without encroaching on the neutral zone and the offensive player moves, that is a false start penalty. Our defense's late shifts have been creating a lot of these penalties this year.
Exactly- there is no excuse for LSU to not be on the cusp of the playoff every single year. NOBODY beats LSU for Louisiana kids. So, they can stock up on talent and then slip out of state to woo specific needs. That need has been QB, and Les completely failed to find a BCS caliber QB. Cadets learn Tech Triumph as freshmen before the first home game. I haven't retained most of my new cadet knowledge, but I still remember all the words to Tech Triumph along with the 8 pylons and the 7 Medal of Honor recipients.
Yeah, every cadet should know the words to Tech Triumph, Old Hokie, & VPI Victory. Can't speak for Moonlight and VPI (Alma Mater).
We're able to learn it because the adage is, if the mind cannot comprehend, the body must be punished. The Corps has a lot of options and creativity when it comes to that.
That other band (the Highty Tighties) knew the words to the fight song on about day 3. Likewise, the non-band cadets in that endzone also know the words. New cadet knowledge. I'd like to see them do this with the cadets on alternate home games.

I agree... Despite his 'mad hatter' reputation he is really a very very play-it-safe conservative coach who managed to close the deal on some highly rated but local recruits while at LSU to maintain the recruiting momentum that Saban established.
28-21 (16-16) at Oklahoma State before moving to LSU doesn't inspire genius-level coaching evaluations. Obviously something in his style fit what LSU was looking for (e.g. the mid 'oughts SEC style of overpowering your opponent with an over-talented straightforward power run / play action offense).
However Saban left him with a full cupboard to safely coach into a title contender (and winner). Then Saban and Alabama evolved to more of a spread offense (3 WR is typical for them now) / zone run type team that was neccesary to stress college defenses. Meanwhile LSU seemd mired in pro-style I-formation offense. Even when they had a running QB in JaMarcus Russell under Miles in the early days, #1 he was a Saban recruit and #2 anything a dynamic running QB brought to the table was MV1 style... occasional sweep option or QB draw but primarily I-form pro-style with athletic QB scrambling to save the day. End up winning the BSC Title on the strength of an epic defense stocked with Saban recruits and a game manager QB.
