Just to clarify its not the NCAA suspending these players, the school, the school compliance officer are the ones issuing the suspension.
I think the two separate outbreaks of E. coli, the outbreak of nori virus and the other issue they had I think points to them not being as quality as they would like you to believe.

JMHO - but we do have something to lose - and that's credibility. At the moment, with a new coach and a so far mainly successful unveiling of the new regime, we're starting an upward trajectory. In this game, we don't necessarily need to win, but we need to be perceived as having had a chance to win it. We need to be competitive.
A win does more, but to maintain credibility that we are back on the rise and good place for top recruits to go, we need to show up and play well in this game. If it turns into a meltdown or an LSU game style beat down, the rest of the college football world will think we're not on the upward track yet. And they'll be right.

Beer: made a burnt orange ale for the game with Centennial, Ahtanum, and Mosaic hops. Used a British ale yeast and a bready malt backbone. I'll be trying it tomorrow!
Update: this beer kicks ass. Right now it tastes like a Red IPA with Mosaic and Ahtanum citrus (lemon and tropical fruits on the nose) with some bready malts and more pine/citrus in the flavor. Finishes with a nice English yeast crispness. In the next couple weeks as the hops fade, the balance will be delightful.

I feel like the amount of hype its gotten would mean everyone who even tangentially follows college football would know who the teams are. Surely when its sort of your job to know, you would know.
Bud Foster has out schemed some teams absolutely stacked with NFL talent in the past, so I would never count him out, especially in big games. The fact we were able to hold onto him through this transition was a friggen coup. He is to the college defense what a guy like Chip Kelly was to the college offense. He'll take inferior talent and have it pistol whip a stronger team. Our issue has always been that our offense could never, ever give him any semblance of support.
But here's the thing... now we have a defensive coach who can take inferior talent and turn it into an elite unit and paired it with an offensive coach who has proven he can take inferior talent and turn it into an elite unit. Sky's the limit should they be able to both get us rolling at the same time.
This - we have been discussing all summer what a high tempo offense will do to the defense, with a lot of early assumptions being similar to these assumptions, I high tempo offense results in giving up more points on defense because of more time/possessions on defense. However, when we got into details, the Fuente offense has more potential to keep the defense off the field than Lefty able to do. will the offense be at that point tomorrow? Probably not. But will we give up more points than previously? I looks like that conclusion in based on a misconception from so many up-tempo offense not having top defense, no from possessions or time of possession.

Yes, that would be shooting up the rankings...going from unranked to 17 is a leap. And we were getting dark horse picks for the playoffs after that game. The hype was real.

Eh, I don't know that I buy the Teller thing. You want your guys to knock the rust off in the first week. It's not like Tennessee coaches don't know who Wyatt Teller is or what his primary responsibilities will be. Putting a good but rusty player in doesn't seem like a great idea.
I do think we had a restricted offense, mostly to drive home the fundamentals against a team you should be able to force your will upon. I'm sure there was some hiding of the playbook, but the Oline and receivers didn't intentionally block like crap. I'm sure we may even run a little bit quicker this game than against Liberty, but I don't think it will be breakneck speed. Your guys have to be comfortable with the system and absolutely know their assignments before going crazy fast and I just don't see how we can be there after a few months in the system.
I do think that our defense was a little vanilla, that we may see a few special tweaks for Tennessee, and that the defense will be shifting and moving more than the past few years.
Tennessee may have been vanilla on offense, but their oline didn't block like crap on purpose either. The major difference compared to our vanilla is that there is 3 years of film on this offensive system at Tennessee and one year with Dobbs as the QB. I'm sure they too will have wrinkles to throw in the mix, but it's not like they will roll out the Air Raid. Bud should have a decent idea of what Tennessee will bring to Bristol.
