I dont know how many folks in the TKP community are in the IT world, but yes, that's often how it works.
You add a couple of new skills to your profile. Some recruiter in some far corner of north america performs a keyword search against qualified candidates and finds your profile, then harasses you with bad job opportunities.
I have worked at a few different places, and networking is what put me onto more desirable jobs.

Yep, I went to a lot of the Olympics when it was here. I also designed, or redesigned, a lot of it as well. Worked on several buildings and redesigned nearly half of the Olympic Green Park. Not that I get credit for it publicly but that happens a lot here.
Mandarin, which is called putonghua or zhongwen, is what is known as the official dialect. That's what you hear in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It's like the common denominator of Chinese dialects. Most major cities have their own dialects and languages, some indecipherable to even other Chinese. Mandarin gives everyone a common dictionary to use to communicate. Though in the south Cantonese is used first before Mandarin.

As far I know, the DO school in Blacksburg is "officially" not affiliated with Virginia Tech: Link Here. I don't think there are any plans to marry the two institutions at this point.
If they did, it would make Virginia Tech very interesting in the medical world- I think they would be the only school in the country with a DO and MD school.
It's good for the region, good for Virginia Tech, brings more money and medical people to Roanoke.
