Auburn went from a Scot Loeffler offense to a National title game...so we got that going for us.
I don't see how we could finish behind Duke, GT, or LOLuva. I think it's more likely we finish 3rd or 4th. But I don't think it's crazy to think we could win the division or place 2nd. At any rate, I'll be happy with just seeing progress on both sides of the ball this year.
I thought this site was crazy with the love it was giving VT basketball before the season. I thought Tech was going to go 4-12 in conference again. I was a pessimist and wrong, so I think I'm going to be more optimistic about the football team to make up for it.

Well this just isn't true. Clemson went from one of it's worst offenses to it's statistically best ever at the time from 2010 to 2011.
Virginia Tech: The Hokies deteriorated for years under Frank Beamer. Hey, it happens. While the ACC as a whole has gotten better, VT hasn't. I believe Justin Fuente is one of the best hires this year. He has four returning offensive linemen plus a 1,000-yard rusher. But there is a rebuild to be done here with at least a year's transition. Fuente has to install the hurry-up spread. You don't do that in one offseason with a roster recruited to a different system. Third place in the Coastal and a bowl game would be an absolute win in Fuente's first season. -- Dennis Dodd
Interesting thought. My only issue is that I don't think our guys were recruited for a different system. Lefty's system was "multiple" and I think that the current roster actually fits well with Fuente's system.
I too think we'll be better than 4th in the division. We're not there yet but I imagine we'll finish 2nd to 3rd in the coastal but I wouldn't be surprised if we won it either. If we do win we're not beating Clemson...yet. If we stay healthy and get lucky I could see us going 10-2, 9-3 at the worse. We're gonna lose one of our big OOC games and probably drop 1-2 conference games. Again, take this with a grain a salt. Four years ago if you would've told me the next four years would've played out like they did I would've assumed you were on flacca.

Not sure this is entirely true, but to give the benefit of the doubt, Carson Wentz is not a #3 pick, nor was Ezekiel Elliot.
According to cover32.com, Wentz's contract contains offset language and, according to the table provided in the link, he receives 25% of his signing bonus in each of the next four years. I'm not sure this is correct, though, and I might just be reading it wrong, because...
Sporting News reported that:
There are plenty of examples of teams and their high first-round picks agreeing to deals with and without offsets and deferred signing bonus. At the top of this year's draft, first-overall pick Jared Goff has deferrals but no offset language. Carson Wentz at number two has offset language, but only $1 million deferred signing bonus (and that will be paid in January). Ezekiel Elliott in the fourth spot signed a deal with both offset and deferrals (further emboldening San Diego).
So it looks like both Wentz and Elliot have both parts of this and have already signed and gotten into camp. If this source is true, Wentz's $1 million deferred bonus is about 5.7% of his signing bonus (obviously if the previous reference is correct and this one is wrong, then 75% of his signing bonus is deferred for up to three years, I'd probably trust Sporting News more). If I heard correctly, I think Bosa was asked to defer 15% of his bonus, whatever it is, until January and accept offset language.
I'm not convinced that Bosa is being asked to do much more than anyone else has been asked to do, which some accepted (a player at the most valuable position on the field who was drafted before him as well as a player who is probably in the most injury-prone position who was drafted right after him).
I do think, though, that the Chargers have a really good reason to pull the offer at this point: They're trying to pay him for 16 games, but he hasn't practiced with his team or any NFL team ever before, so it is unlikely that he'll be able to contribute for a full 16 games this year. 100% agree that his first year compensation should be reduced in this case.
I've done similar stuff in the past and it's not as in depth as a real Roto or Keeper league, but still fun.
Since it's a smaller tournament each person would get 22 roster spots to fill 3 full lines with 4 utility players. It would break down to a minimum of 9 forwards, 6 defense, 3 goalies, and then 4 additional players of whatever position you'd like (I.e. 4 additional forwards, 2 forwards and 2 defense, 3 defense and 1 goalie, etc.).
At the beginning of each week (prior to Monday's game slate), each person would have to set a 6 person team for the week. It would be based off of pure points (no Head-to-head, etc.) and points would be awarded/deducted based on:
(for skaters) Goals, Assists, PPG, PPA, Hat Tricks, SOG, +/-
(for goalies) Saves, Goals Against, Wins, Shutouts
I would just have to manually enter in points for each player after the games each night, which I don't mind doing, it just obviously won't be a live update. The real challenge is making sure you have enough of a spread across all the WCOH Teams since it's a tournament and Countries will be continually knocked out. We could also do a redraft after each round is completed, but I think that takes away some of the fun and strategy.
I am super optimistic at this point. Just seeing the up tempo high energy mindset is a definite plus. I think we have great athletes and the beauty of Fuente is that he isn't used to not having that level of athletes to work with, but he has been able to develop players and scheme for success. One thing is different is that we haven't played with swagger or a chip on our shoulder. We need that back along with #hitsquadhokies.
I am also worried about Special teams. So many unknowns there except for Slye and Stroman.
Thanks for clarification. I understand that points have to be part of the equation. But looking at it like a math problem - if we know points per play and points per play allowed, then don't we then just need to understand how many plays are ideal in 1 game set to be successful (vs. time of possession)?
Even if a team is averaging a high PPP, they could be throwing touchdowns or interceptions on every first down - limiting the number of plays / length of drives in a given game. I would think you would track both to get a balanced look at both explosiveness / points for a game and control of a game (without getting caught up in time).
Not discounting anything said - just trying to better understand.

For me, he's not negotiating on principle, but on what his agent is advising him to do. The team doesn't want to set a precedent for all future contracts. Now he's late for camp and won't be of all that much value when the season starts.
For me, there's plenty of blame to go around here, and though I see both sides, he should sign the freaking contract and get on with it. Now he can't, because PRIDE.
