I'm always optimistic at this point in time. We're undefeated until we're not. But at the same time, our schedule does us no favors this year. UNC, Pitt (ugh), and Miami (double ugh) are all doing well and have been for a few years. So a tough OOC schedule with Tenn and ND, coupled with a no-joke ACC Coastal slate, makes me hesitant. Perhaps I've been conditioned to this response based on the last few years. During undergrad and early grad school, I'd walk to the stadium every week confident that we'd win. Since 2012...not so much.
There is absolutely reason to hope and be excited, but I'm still setting my expectations at 8 games, hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
Russell didn't work out so well for the team that drafted him in still waiting for Clowney to contribute to the Texans. While I agree that the Chargers owners are cheap and kind of aholes for making this public it's not like Bosa isn't in that "caution zone" for a player.
I'm going for the spectacle, all-day tailgating, etc. And, during the game, I plan to rely heavily on binoculars and the huge video screens.
LOLUVA is a couple of injuries away from 2-10 or 3-9. No depth anywhere.
Barring key injuries, i say 8-4 will be a good season. Throw in a major upset and 9-3. Winning brings on mojo. Can't wait to start jumping on Saturday.
Its becoming clear that you just have a personal problem with Bosa. If any character issues are large enough to warrant different contract structuring, they shouldn't have taken him third overall.
Due to this preseason being so freaking quiet and tight lipped, I dont know what to expect but I've been a Hokie Fan for a long time and when football is predicted to suck they seem to always prove everyone wrong. I don't see blowing the doors off teams but I do see us being right at the top of the Coastal by years end.
I think most if not all fans are always optimistic and sometimes over optimistic, but that's all the fun
The last time we had an unknown at QB stepping into a major supporting cast of experience and proven production, we went to the sugar bowl and beat Michigan.
We have a Rogers and a Rodgers now. He could be referencing the versatility of Tyree.

Nothing wrong with being optimistic, I am every year. However, it's hard to poke holes in the predictions either since history has proven there isn't much difference between 1 and 4 in the coastal.
Exactly the point of all the work I did months ago on measuring the distances. You can view the field, but will you be able to see what is happening? See those trucks in the in field? Think about a human sized man sitting in the cab of those things. There's your scale reference. Now think about watching 22 guys play football at that distance.
I ended up with tickets, but I fully expect to have to go home and watch the game to figure out what happened to arrive at the final score. Gonna have to trust the officials for this one, because no way anyone in the grandstands will be able to see anything better. Now that gets me onto my conspiracy theory that if this game isn't a blowout by the Hokies, it will be a loss due to Pilot Oil being the headline sponsor. If bad calls start piling up in the Vols' favor, then you'll know.

Nothing wrong with being optimistic in the offseason. We have a lot of question marks with some new coaches and a new offense, but things are in place for us to have a pretty solid turn around year as well. I think a big difference could be a change in mentality back to that of a team that expects to win, especially in close games.

How many number 3 picks had a history of being suspended and disciplined in college in the year prior to jumping to the NFL? Bosa has some baggage with him, his attitude and willingness to be told he has to do certain things a certain way( class work). If I'm signing him and paying money I want to make sure he is going to work hard for it not just do what Bosa feels is enough.
You aren't over optimistic. We are a lock for the playoffs IMO.
The owners of the Chargers being cheap didn't cause Eli's dad tell them he wouldn't play a down for them. He wanted someplace more visible and marketable for his son to play at.
Assume it is building depth because Yosh has looked great, at least in the tiny bit I have seen.
Long term, and I keep banging on this, TJ Jackson looked terrific in the pass protection drills. He is huge, yet has quick feet and moves well and balanced. He dominated Jimmie Taylor every rep I have seen, even though Taylor has had a strong camp for a freshman. Jackson still needs to get stronger, and I imagine at his size he struggles with his run blocking, but all the tools are there for him to be a HUGE steal.
Your right the Chargers who never like to pay up shouldn't have picked him 3rd they probably should have traded the pick away.
