I am not a huge fan of OBBS. Best bet- take a gotcha plug and a spinning rod out to Avalon Pier. Catch a cooler full of spanish mackerel. Take them home, clean them, and put them in some lemon pepper marinade. Go watch the game. Come back and make some banging fish tacos.

Against my better judgment, I'm going to lay out my opinion (Jesus Christ, that can't be emphasized enough) on these uniforms. Yes, I did call them "atrocities" in a tweet, but using the humorous definition of the word, "a highly unpleasant or distasteful object." Truth be told, they're not atrocities; it was just a gut, instantaneous response to something that wasn't maroon and orange (and gut/instantaneous things never happen on Twitter, ever).

As I clarified to a friend last night, my problem isn't with the uniforms. My problem is with when we're wearing them. BaB has been billed as "college football's largest game ever," to be remembered for decades and generations to come. (Or, at least for the five years until they fill in Lake Lloyd at Daytona and F$U and UF face off there.) The point is, when we look back at the event, or even when a casual fan tunes in to it, we're not going to look like the instantaneously-recognizable Virginia Tech team that's clad in our usual maroon and orange. Playing a Tennessee team that is going in orange and white, if we came out in #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING, how incredible would that color-on-color game look?

Of all people -- and I can't believe I'm crediting the other side here -- UT's athletic director, Dave Hart, laid out why Tennessee was sticking to their standard orange and white home uniforms even for this game on the biggest stage. He said it so well that you could change every reference from UT to VT and it's basically my argument.

"Once we got down the road and got the contract done, in my conversations with Butch, I told them 'I felt very, very strongly we would wear and traditional orange and white, our home uniform.' My logic goes, if all goes as we expect and set an all-time attendance record, it will be replayed for decades. Ten years from now, our alumni, anywhere in the world, they would immediately know that Tennessee was in that (world's largest) game. ... In this instance, I felt strongly that tradition needed to prevail. I'm only speaking for us. The University of Tennessee will wear our traditional orange and white uniforms in that game."

Now, I'm not going to get into the "traditional" debate here and talk about the original school colors that were in place for all of four years before we switched to our current combination because it was unique at the time (and, to my knowledge, still is). All I'm really contending is, we could've waited to roll these out for the only home game in October -- Miami on a Thursday night -- turned it into a blackout game, and they still would've had the same awe-inspiring effect, reverence, and following they do now.

It was my favorite spot whenever I went down to my aunt's cottage. Between OBBS and walks to the Avalon pier in the morning (y'know, when you can cross the main drag on foot and not get killed) there are a lot of fond memories of the OBX.

in the overall scheme yes... however the numbers above look to be just football's profit not overall university's profit on athletics.

Easy to forget that Gaines had a huge spring. Hopefully he can place himself firmly back into the mix and provide some quality depth.

I am very glad he came to realize that he was better at Tech than anywhere else. I hope he can rebuild the trust impacted when he briefly left the program and work his way back onto the field.
