Sorry for your loss my friend, that's tough. I wasn't trying to say it isn't awesome that I share that with my dad, it certainly looks that way in context. My dad and I have gone to at least one VT home game together every year since I was in 7th grade (2005). I Look forward to that trip every year and hope that tradition continues for a long, long time!

Yeah, can't do that any more. Some hard hits that aren't anywhere near the helmet are still getting flagged. Over the last few years, refs would rather throw excessive flags than miss a single legitimate one.

I was originally going to comment on the above picture that "the short answer is that this rarely gets called anymore on these types of offenses" There are some examples of Baylor having linemen 7+ yards downfield on RPO's, several plays where they had to throw around a lineman to complete a pass because they were so far downfield they were getting in the way of the pass. I also hope this gets tightened up.

I think i've been on this type of turf before, if not then something similar, it's the best artificial turf Ive been on and felt better than some grass fields. It's unfortunate they're not going use this field more. They're really going all out for this game.
if not more push, at least minimize the gaps inside of the rushing DE's, and use a blitz from one side or the other to dictate which side of the field where the QB can roll...hopefully toward the strength of the zone coverage.

Anyone have any insight on whats up with Wyatt Teller? During Tech Talk Live last night Fuente mentioned nearly every other person on the OL but him, he was one of our best linemen last year, I was expecting big things from him this year as well.

That was my point to the original post. The major ones that were then pointed out above were still in the same fashion of their school's base look, ie, UF, AL, LSU, and OK. Fla has been wearing that set for quite some time and it's merely a different jersey/pant color combo of their same standard base uniform. All LSU did was change a their helmet from gold to white, but it's still the exact same helmet. Alabama added a designed seam, really going wild there Tide.
Iowa's is the most changed of any of the bunch pointed out, and I admit, I had never seen those before.. OK's is a minor tweak with bolder colors, but it's their standard OU helmet and a OKLAHOMA across the chest
Yea, they changed, but most are still along the lines of their "normal" base look with a few tweaks. I'm not saying they never changed their look, but the major ones aren't going very far at all off the well beaten path.
One more note- this analysis is built off of Foster's comments about zone. To play devil's advocate, while Foster has talked about zone, new cornerback's coach Brian Mitchell played a ton of true press man at West Virginia. The difference between leverage and press man is that in press man, the covering defender breaks with the receiver no matter if he cuts inside or outside and doesn't play leverage. I watched WVU play Liberty and Baylor and they played press man well over 2/3 of the snaps.
Given how secretive this camp has been, Foster may have talked a ton about zone but I wouldn't be shocked if they came out pressing the Vols all over the field.
The only question i have is, when will I be able to buy one of these jerseys?!
So, in the effort to be concise, I wrote about my frustration regarding package plays and linemen down field and then deleted it because it was a side topic. Please note, this is rampant throughout college football. The Hokies used it effectively the last two seasons and Fuente will use it on run-pass options and screen package plays. As a general commentary on the state of college football, I believe that the interpretation of the lineman down field rule is way too loose and puts the defense at a significant disadvantage. I hope this gets tightened up.
Do you know if that is something they have said they will announce by a certain date?
I think the obvious point is people (including myself) would want one to wear at the game.
