He tweeted that he grew up dreaming of playing football at VT a few years ago when we offered him. Although he could have already cooled on VT by then. His statement didn't imply it was still his dream school. Additionally, it was an uphill battle against Clemson, strong history of putting DE's in the nfl during his life, plus they are a better program right now. It sucks to not get him but I never expected to. I do hope we can get Garbutt back though.

Do you have links to articles/interviews that say he grew up a fan? While it's a loss I look it as more an indictment of lack of DL going to the NFL as opposed to inability of Tech coaches to Keep an easy "fan" in the fold. That's what your post to some extent and and others I've seen on Twitter imply.

Williams is the most significant loss of the year. VT fan growing up, position of need, extremely engaging personality.

But in Burdens area, Foster and Wiles with position oversight. This loss is more on the staff holdovers than the new regime.

A lot of good coaches don't give away team information very easily (see Bellichick & Saban), but then again, that might be in part related to their dislike of the media. I'm cool with being in the dark on a lot of the details associated with this team as long as we get our 8+ wins and beat the Vols!

I don't mind taking a second to embed. Garbutt's RTs included the following:
I think this tweet directly from Garbutt was posted already but the pic is (L to R) Ashby, Garbutt and Capehart.

RT of Hunter congratulating Capehart

He RTed DeJuan too

And this RT from Aug 2nd

Well, a lot of players don't succeed at their initial stops, case in point Brett Favre in Atlanta or Cam Newton at Florida, so a change in scenery may be the wake up call the doctor ordered for Lawson. I hope he gets his life in order and goes on to have a successful career, as long as he's doing it against other teams and not us.

However, as an Orioles fan, I just hope he doesn't become the Hokies version of Jake Arrieta.
