I hated Loeffler from his 5th game so I'd probably only give him credit for creating cancer.

He'd only have to sit 2 if VT forced him to. I actually doubt they would do that, considering how all this went down. Fuente seems to have more class and consideration then that.

Reuniting with Loeffler shouldn't scare anyone. Could it come back to burn VT? Maybe, but if you believe Joshie Jack, Hooker, or Ellis gives you a better chance to win, then you should be able to handle facing Lawson @ BC.

UConn - solid win. Mendenhall teams have dominated UConn in recent years. This UVA team has more talent than BYU typically had, and BYU-UVA games have been close, despite poor coaching at UVA. I generally don't expect UVA to lose to teams BYU would have handily beaten under Mendenhall.

LOL...shouldn't this be a point of concern? I'll be honest, I was willing to give Loeffler the full 3 years but I feel like a lot of pro-Loeffler supporters said stuff like this. "he did well at Temple" etc. etc.

If he admits that BYU-UVA games were close, then shouldn't they just expect more of the same?

No, just 12 years. There's no need for hyperbole, it's bad enough for you just to state facts. Like your freshmen were wrapping up their first semester of kindergarten last time LOLUVa beat us.

but both teams are coming off disappointing seasons, both staffs are new and aren't carrying any personal baggage about that history, and this game comes after an entire season of forming new identities. This game will come down to which coach has righted his ship faster.

The baggage coming into this game is that one coach is under pressure not to break a 12 year streak and the other is in a position of seeing if, after a whole season with the team, he can show marked improvement over the last two coaches. And "righting the ship?" Our's needs righting after a 7-6 season punctuated by a high scoring bowl game. Yours needs a SEAL dive team to even see the mast after a fantastic two year improvement to 4-8.

My money is on Mendenhall, though I suspect this game will be a good, competitive one for years to come. I wouldn't expect to start winning it every year. a 50/50 split over the next 4 years is probably a reasonable expectation.

I'll take your money EVERY...SINGLE...TIME. The game has already been competitive often over the last decade and that's with us playing with 1 phase of the game taking winter break early. Our hallmark has been beating LOLUVa. Yours has been ending the season drowning your sorrows on the way back to "grounds" with a pint of rocky road and a six pack of zima.

If we lost to LOLUVa in the near future, it's not because Mendenhall has righted the ship, it's because the end times are here.

I don't buy that. I mean Motley learned for even longer under Loeffler and hes got a shot at the job. I think its more that Lawson is too raw (accuracy, reads etc) and overall is not a match with what Fuente wants as a QB (quick release and decisive reads). Even if he was a true freshman right now it sounds like Jackson is already more polished. It just isn't a fit.
