Andy Bitter's article is more clear: "A source indicated that Lawson was expected to face a suspension of some length for failing a drug test."

so he may have recently failed it, and was going to be suspended, and chose to leave, probably with mutual input from Fuente & Co.

Adding a QB each class is standard. If he cant compete with younger guys than him then its on him. If hes worried about guys that haven't even arrived yet then he can't be our QB.

Edit: And no I don't believe the addition of QBs in '17 and '18 affected his decision. I think that decision was made by his current standing on the team, especially next to Jackson. If hes already behind Jackson, why would a '17 or '18 QB matter

I am not sure that it ever was reported anywhere, but heard a ton of buzz (the type you can't write a column on because you aren't 100% sure) that Jackson had outperformed Lawson in the spring and Lawson needed a great summer to be ahead of him.

According to the newspaper, a failed drug test and impending suspension was a factor. That softens the news in my opinion.

I have no idea about who his source is... I would guess it would have to be someone high up in athletics as Drug Testing information is kept on lock down.

You normally see this type of news after a kid transfers has been accepted into new school and both parties agree to release the information.

Josh Jackson passed Lawson on the depth chart? Where was that stated?

Okay thank you for the input. So my theory is not likely. Interesting speculation...I thought Norm Wood was a reputable source.?

if he failed his second test recently then why would he be attending practice and weight sessions in the morning/night.

Possibility he could have been tested last night after practice but if so results would not be back this quickly, usually takes 48 hours+ to receive that stuff.

Every school has a way to handle drug issues, based on past VT "weed incidents"I would have to believe he would have been suspended indefinitely or put on probation at least. I have yet to see evidence that either of those happened.

I was just about to say that Lawson transferring is going to become the new Drew Harris arrival.

Book it. I'm game.

Here is how I look at it:

- Josh Jackson has been looking good. If Evans does well this year and next then he could be starting his 3rd year in the program, which is perfect.
- Fuente is getting some good prospects coming in
- Lawson never really got it going. Jackson may have passed him on the depth chart already.
- It frees up a scholarship.
