Apparently, if you turn the volume way up while Lyanna is whispering to Ned, you can hear her say "Rhaegar," but it absolutely has to be Rhaegar, anyway. Rhaegar ordered the Kingsguard to the Tower of Joy, Rhaegar was the one that crowned Lyanna at the Tourney of Harrenhal, Rhaegar was the one that "abducted" her. Anything is possible, of course, but it would be the most implausible and meaningless switch of all time. Either way, Jon's a Starkgaryen.

I understand cinematic effect, but both were functionally unnecessary components to the plan.
Isn't it also possible that the Mad King was John's father? The show does not explicitly say Rhaegar, does it? Just that the identity of the father must be kept secret (as Robert Baratheon is killing all of the Mad King's heirs).
The fact that the Mad King used to take "liberties" from time with Tyrions mother seems like more than just an insignificant detail, as is Tywins overall contempt for Tyrion "You are no son of mind"
Interesting thought... fact that, historically, the mad king's children were often subject to complications at birth, fits the Tyrion Targaryan narrative.

Yes, I know they are Qyburn's, but they were initially Varys' and you don't just become a brutal killer because the person who gives you candy tells you to. They had to have some form of brutality, even if it's just for survival, in them before then.

Also, the candles in the pool of Wildfire was genius. Getting Lancel down there, wounding him and then having him find it all only to be just short of saving the day was fantastic. I never realized though just how savage Varys little birds are. Between that and what they did the Pycelle, brutal.

I think that's why the scene with him and Edmure Tully a few episodes ago was so important. We saw the passion and belief to the core that he had of Cersei as many things, but a fiercely protective mother first and foremost among them.
Now that belief has simply been shattered beyond any hope of reconciliation. She allowed (and allowed is the right word I think), for their last remaining child to kill himself. She did nothing ot protect him, and in fact went to great lengths to punish him.
Everything that he believed about her, and quite honestly everything that made Cersei even seem a little bit human, quite literally jumped out the window.
