I like where your head is at except for 2 things. ECU and Duke. We should never, fking ever lose to those 2 teams. I don't care how big a boy they THINk they are, VT should never lose in football to those 2 teams. EVER! Did I say ever , yet?
I look at how close we were in 5 of our losses last year and think to myself, if we only had an offense that ran a play that the defense didn't know was coming before the OFFENSE did! I think we will have that this year. These kids put upswing Leftys BS for 3 years and were in the game at the end most of the time. For what Fuente is getting paid, I expect to come in no less than second in the Coastal with the talent we currently have. I am one that thinks 2017 will be worse than this year because of key personnel losses (Ford, hodges, TMac, probably Teller.) We are sucking wind on OL for 2017 and 2018 unless we pull in some studs this year.

I think that brings up a valid point/concern. You would think that the banishment of Alpha Kappa Psi would set the precedent. This brings up a couple of questions for me: Are there more details regarding the Alpha Phi Alpha ban that we simply don't know which would justify the longer ban? Are there social pressures from the current social landscape which influence a harsher ban than two years ago?
Hi sorry, but I'm gonna be the one to bring it up at risk of getting banhammered. Two years ago Alpha Kappa Psi (the VT business frat) was banned from VT for 5 years, also for hazing. Their hazing included sexual based offenses, link to roanoke times article. The issue I'm bringing up is that the Alpha Phi Alphas were banned for double the amount of the business frat for a similar offense. I don't believe it gives a good outside look when the black fraternity was banned for 10 years for a similar offense as the business fraternity which was banned for 5 years.
If I am missing something, key details as to why one ban is longer than another I would like to know. But my perspective with the information I currently have, I don't believe this is a good look.
Of course, the Alpha's should have been banned. I'm not trying to justify what they did and say they shouldn't be punished. I'm asking why is one punishment more severe than another for a similar offense?
1) you make sure VT continues to beat uva - especially this first year
2) do whatever it takes to win 6 to keep the bowl streak going in your first year
3) make sure your offense looks considerably better than the opponent's in the bc game
4) plan for any major tear down / rebuild in year 2/3 when the fan base has embraced you and you have a year or 2 with your own recruits and coaches.
Going 4-8 this year with a loss to bronco is going to leave a lot of people questioning if CJF is out of his league. I think he needs to ease into it this year and then do whatever he wants starting Dec 2017.
Hmm, I'll take the under on that. I would be ecstatic for 8 wins. Anything more seems a bit too optimistic for me and our schedule.

Not surprised. Pure speculation, but this may clear some conflict of interests for his design firm with VT. Also,the Derrick Smith article a month ago didn't paint KJ in the best light, given his role.
Don't get me wrong it's great for him and his family. But purely selfish reasons it's bad for: bridging the gap with former players, helping with recruiting, helping with some of the other projects he has been doing. Kevin was a valuable part of the athletic department team.
It's disappointing at first read. But reading he's staying in Blacksburg and pursuing
his MBA sounds like a good thing.
I got to meet him at a big tailgate before OSU game in Blacksburg. He was with two guys in suits and walking around shaking hands with all the big Donors.

Had a really long comment about this that got deleted but basically an ACC-SEC challenge would be difficult with scheduling since you constantly have 4 teams that are locked into games, 3 of which have been the by far most successful of the last 5 years. So is it a separate event the first weekend of the season? Or are those 4 just built in? I don't think the ACC would go for that because you cant really match your power programs against the SEC's. If you were the ACC you'd want FSU and Clemson playing Bama and LSU not GT and us for example.
B1G-ACC challenge would be interesting and a far better top to bottom opponent for the ACC but you wouldn't get the same level of exposure.
Looking back at last season, even with all the drama and emotions, it's fair to say that we won the games we were supposed to and lost the games we were supposed to:

Sorry for the formatting, but our wins vs Furman, Purdue, NC State, BC, GT uva, and Tulsa were expected.
Our losses against tOSU, ECU (it hurts to say that), Pitt (monkey on our back), UM, and crazy close games vs good Duke and UNCheat teams.
And you could argue a bit of over-achieving when you take out the loss to tOSU (Brewer had us in it!), we lost the other 5 games by a total of 29pt. or 5.8ppg. (Take out the 10 point loss to UM and it's only 4.75ppg.)
Point being, with a dash of Homerism, is that last year's team had guts: they won what they should have and came close to making the season even more successful.

I think that the general definition of hazing is placing someone under duress.
They still do the shellback ceremony, and from what I understand the sub community is still pretty wild, but the surface side is much tamer than it was even a decade ago.
