the real change will be when MLS, USL and NASL clubs who make their money from things other than parents cutting checks for their kid to play at the club can run academies free of charge to the players down to the U9 pre-academy ages. Some clubs are there or almost there, but not enough of them. Pay to play has to become a thing of the past at some point if we really want the development of US Soccer players to change. Locally (DC Metro), i believe Philly Union are the only academy to offer academy spots free of charge, but i also think they are only U15+.
When we can have every professional club in this country building their own club from the ground up at no cost to the players, then we will have come a long way. We're heading in the right direction, but still have a long way to go.
Also, i think the growth of that sort of system will force non-professional clubs to change the way they structure their academies. there might always have to be some sort of pay to play in place for these clubs, but they will need to get more creative with corporate partnerships and sponsorships and other sources of revenue/cost cutting in order to keep those costs to the players and their families down. For a club/academy fielding 4 teams in each age group (A/B boys and girls in many cases) from age 9-17, that's 30-40 teams of kids travelling all over the region (and often outside of the region) wearing that uniform. how have more of these clubs not found a way to monetize that through sponsorship? i know some have, but most have not. At a minimum, they should be cutting deals with Nike and Adidas to provide free or heavily subsidized/at cost uniforms, but you would also think regional food chains and other targeted marketing partnerships wouldn't be too terribly difficult to work out.
And why would ODP charge kids to try-out/participate? Is US Soccer really that hard up for cash that they can't fund their own Olympic Development? I know part of this is that every state soccer association is running things their own way to a point, but that seems like low hanging fruit for US Soccer to step in and fix.
i'm babbling on at this point, but in summary: we've come a long way, but still have a long way to go.
You're opening up a can of worms there... You just opened the door for a giant argument on physical discipline and I really hope this doesn't turn into that.

Michael Vick is still strongly associated with dog fighting and people hate him, but Adrian Peterson, a guy who actually abused a child, is still pretty well liked. So somehow, what Vick did is worse than abusing a child.

US hasn't proven to me that the can live up to even the average expectations we set them to. Guatemala happened. We're struggling to get into the hex man.
Hard to blame him much for the U23's since Andi Herzog is managing them. Plus young guys like Pulisic are (hopefully) getting even better experience by playing in Copa America against first team guys.
I think the commitment to developing youth will eventually yield results, our youth system in the States for years has been find a guy with a European accent to coach travel teams, they must be good because they're from Europe. Now they are actually focused on building through US Soccer run academies with proper coaching. Klinnsman's results haven't been what we wanted, but he's helped change the culture of US Soccer from the ground up. I'm hoping the results start coming soon though, I know he can't last forever with us losing the matches we are supposed to win.

Back when I was looking into going I formulated an idea to make two beers: a maroon toned English Porter and an orange colored citrus hopped Amber Ale/Session IPA, both about 5%. My thought was the English Porter represented the Virginia Tech traditions with a very traditional beer. The other beer would represent the "Invent the Future" part of the university. Make a beer that isn't really to any style. It'd use hop bursting for the hop flavor and aroma (using relatively new American hops), use a unique mix of malts to get a vibrant orange color, and ferment with Brett C (not Saccharomyces) to bring out tropical notes as well. Ideally they would end up with different enough densities that you could pour one over the other like a Half and Half. Start with a bright, juicy, citrusy beer, and finish with a roasty, chocolate, bready porter. Or the other way around.
But, if you're tailgating the porter probably doesn't sound too good.
I don't see a s/, so Im guessing you're to young to appreciate just how important this man is to our school. Everyone should get a second chance and he is the ultimate turn around story. Served his time, paid all his debts, ohh and was going to be the NFL Mvp the year after he got out of prison if it wasn't for Brady going 18-1. I've got a lot of Respect for Mike Vick. I'll never forget how he was such a great mentor for Tyrod when he was going through draft. Hokie Pride
I have a recurring dream of Mike Vick retiring from NFL only to return as VT 757 head recruiter. Tech then proceeds to get every 4-5 star recruit in the 757. Then I wake up to a nightmare that Duke actually has kids that want to go there for football.

Kyrie did shoot poorly, around or under 30%, the Cavs missed a TON of layups, and while I agree that overall it didn't look good for the Cavs moving forward. It is ridiculous to assume GS will get 45 bench points and play from Harrison Barnes like that. After the Cavs took their last lead, the GS bench and Harrison barnes went on a 28-9 run or something like that. As much as you can't expect Curry/Klay to be stifled that much again, you can't expect a bench performance like that. Truly a very strange game.
Especially since Navas is out for Costa Rica
