I think the way the way the show has interpreted the story is that Dany doesn't burn. GRRM has said that it's the same story, just being told by different storytellers, kinda like historians have their own ways of telling history depending on personal preference and the information they have. So the show is saying she doesn't burn, and the books have her performing a one time magic act.

I live an hour from the TN line. Sometimes UVa is an afterthought compared to the constant delusional, obnoxious banter and behavior from UT fans. What a lot of Hokies on the other end of the state will realize now or on Sept 10 is that Vol fans are like this. Always. Up or down.
In a way I dread the Bristol game. There will probably be a lot of fights. I feel for anyone on the edges where VT "side" meets UT, or near the UT fans who bought VT tickets.
Not to mention on that Michigan touchdown where Whitley just missed the interception, we only had 10 players on the field. If you watch that video, it's hard to count players pre-snap since you can't see the whole field, but if you slow it down when the ball is thrown, you'll notice there are 6 defensive players on the offensive side of the 50, then 2 players near the defensive 35-yard line, and 2 players near the WR at the 20-yard line. During the replay, Todd Blackledge mentions our coaches were "trying to call timeout because of the formation"-- that was only half true, we were trying to call timeout but it was because we realized we were short a player.
Agree with wythevillian and just want to add that magic was NOT a lock down defender...at all.
Anyone who thinks Steph is one of the great all-around players is fooling themselves. However, he is much more than a shooter. His handle is phenomenal and his ability to finish around the basket is uncanny for someone his size. He's struggled the past couple of games but that doesn't mean he isn't capable. Granted, his shooting ability does open up that part of his game a lot of the time but that doesn't mean the skills aren't there. He'll never be a Jordan caliber player. Those are once in a generation type of guys. Size, speed, and strength are usually things that come one or two at a time. Players like Jordan and Lebron manage all three.
When Lowry is bad, it is really, really bad. In addition to not making a shot, he usually fouls out too.
He's a great scorer with a good handle. But he can't be in the discussion of all around greats because he can't do all the things they did. Whether that's his fault or not is pretty irrelevant, limitations are limitations. I'm just glad this series is exposing some of those things. I've had some frustrating conversations with ridiculous Curry truthers.
A) No one can guard Westbrook...he'd be the best player in the league if he wasn't his own worst enemy.
B) You can't compare a 6'3 point guard to a 6'6 above guys and expect him to contribute in the same way. Curry isn't the best defensive player, but even if he was the best defensive player in the league he couldn't match up to Lebron or KD just because of height. He'd get shot over. He simply can't post up someone because it'd be idiotic to.
C) Players miss shots. Players go cold. It doesn't mean he's not a dominant player. Game 4 was awful for Curry. Game 3 was a bad game by Curry standards, but he's set those so loft average games somehow become bad. It's like when LeBron was getting killed for some finals performances. He's put together so many good games, when an average one comes we kill him for it.
Curry is an all-time great scorer. He has some limitations, not necessarily are his fault (ie: height/weight) that players like Lebron or Jordan had an advantage over him.

Wait, are you implying that a 6'3 190lb guard has been unable to still be a dominant player for his team when his range shooting goes cold!? But, but, he's the best player in the world!! He can just go down on the block and scor... er I mean he can make up for it by locking down westbro...
Hmmm maybe he isn't the same caliber of player that is well rounded and considered for a GOAT argument like Jordan, Magic, Lebron, or Kobe who all could change their game and/or lock down the other team's best player in addition to, or when they weren't, scoring at will.

Good point. I had forgotten about those regulations until you mentioned it. Had a few guys from my unit that played in the German league when I was stationed there. Leg for you sir.
Having the flexibility to play multiple positions probably helped him get one of these slots because the German Football League limits the number of American, Canadian, Mexican, and Japanese players a team can have. Team can have 10 total, 6 are allowed to dress but only 2 can be on the field at any one time. This is a big improvement as it used to be that they could have only 2 on the team period.

I think there is a fairly well documented relationship between winning and losing and recruiting (see all the TKP tangents on the value of stars in recruiting). The article appears to be discussing the relationship with uniforms and brand power as it relates to recruiting - really a creative off season topic - more so than wins and loses. I do not think there is a substantial relationship, especially in relation to win-loss record, favorite teams growing up, or personal relationships, even after reading the article, but that seems to be the nature of the debate it is trying to foster. I think the leap it explores, but I am not willing to make, is the leap from uni's to brand power as it relates to the step between recruiting and wins-loses.
It takes a step to go from brand power to recruiting but it takes a leap to go from that to wins and losses.

I'm so glad you all are getting a glimpse into what it's like to live in Bristol with the comments in this thread. There appears to be a cycle that goes like this: they say this is their year, they have a couple great opening games, they lose several heartbreaking games by a couple of scores or "bad" calls, they come to the conclusion that if they had made one play differently in each game they'd be national champions, they bring up the 1990's, the SEC, and make a couple cocky comments that are in no way justified, they ask VT fans where our trophy is, they say next year is their year, repeat the next year. Have fun on September 10th, you guys, it's more fun in person. 37-14.
