Finals are coming up in about two weeks or so. This is a very busy academic time. Many were probably already planning on going to the spring game, so hopping into a midweek practice may not have been a huge priority.

but I'm more than a little salty it took so long to get people inside. It was managed about as poorly as it possibly could have been.

I immediately thought this:

"well we're outta cake. We only had 3 bits and we didn't expect such a rush"

It's federal money. The FOA notice was put out via Grants.gov, which is the unified portal for federal funding opportunities (NIH, etc).

http://www.cdc.gov/injury/fundedprograms/foa/

If this is the correct FOA notice (RFA-CE-15-005), then they expect to award one proposal for about $1.6M, which is a pretty standard grant amount, going by NIH R01 as a baseline.

The part where we got to actually watch practice was great, but I'm more than a little salty it took so long to get people inside. It was managed about as poorly as it possibly could have been.

I will say that it was nice getting to hear from Fuente at the end. He said it was like planning a party at your place, putting up flyers everywhere and then hoping you're not sitting there all alone on Friday night. Yeah, Coach, like we're gonna pass on a chance to get our football fix for the spring a few days early.

Also, I disagree with the CDC spending taxpayer dollars on this. (Trying NOT to inject politics...Nuff said.)

Not trying to be argumentative here, but there's nothing anywhere about taxpayer dollars being used to fund this research. The article explicitly states that they've put out a RFP to experts in the field. Where the funding comes from is not stated, but it's possible it can come from grants, donors, or organizations with a vested interest in the outcome of this research. Yes, taxpayer dollars are a possibility, but I wouldn't consider them to be the likely source of funding for this specific research.

With a new coaching staff, there are no assumptions about who will simply be a starter because they were before. To me, it's a very good thing that's happening. We know how good McMillian is. If he's not the runaway starter at this point means (1) it's spring, so the depth chart means very little and (2) that likely means McKenzie and McClease are performing at a high level.

Fuente uses lots of backs, just like he uses lots of receivers. So splitting reps among a bunch of talented guys should be the norm.

I came through engineering not too long ago and that wasn't common language as far as I know...

I almost called you out for that as well but saw your username and also thought the shirts were pretty awesome so I let it slide.

Motley - He looked like the Motley we've always known. I thought he peaked last year and tonight didn't convince me otherwise. Decent running and the hit or miss accuracy. Fine for a short to mid distance pass but struggled to hit open receivers beyond that.

I'm pretty sure this is the exact opposite of what Motley did last year. He had the big, downfield play potential but couldn't make the mid and short range throws consistently enough. But thanks for the insight.

you can't really glean much from a single snap. Both teams are going to win battles and lose battles. We won't know much about this team until September

I read into this like *any former hokies* would be welcomed back to town with a big family style hug with CJF! I fit that bill, sorta! I didn't play on the team, but I sure did rack up a hefty tuition debt!

My mind didn't even consider Marcus, I was planning the best way for me to get that hug amidst a lunchtime brownout at the spring game.

This is one of those plays where I'm not sure if I should be excited about our offense and finally having a strong oline or weary of our defense, considering dline was suppose to be a strength of the defense. Its hard to tell if that is the 1D back there but I do see Moto so I'm guessing it was a 1s vs 1s.
