I'm not sure why this is a big deal. Public figures deliver commencement addresses all the time.
Good to know, seeing as I'll be visiting memphis this year.
Pod sex god.
Says the guy with the signature of the no longer used chant because of its "cringiness"
For the record, I'm all about bringing it back... but really?
Which is why I think Stroman wasn't replaced at some point, much to the chagrin of many fans. He has solid hands and can break loose at any time. But with 4 gunners headed his way it is much harder. I love the guy, except when he runs after calling fair catch, or touches the ball inside the 10.
No way, Podrick will live forever. I am sure of it.
If you watched the Miami Beach Bowl between WKU and USF you might have thought trick plays were mandatory. That game was wild.
His name was removed from this list: http://www.athletics.vt.edu/staff.html
Here is an archived snapshot of when he was on it:

Is he still around? I don't see his name in the staff directory.
Yeah, I'm fully expecting someone to die this year that is totally unforeseen. If you like a character, expect that they very well may die.

# | Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh to deliver commencement address at Paramus Catholic This kind of stuff happens all the time, kind of like hiring a high school coach to your school after getting a commitment from a highly regarded qb at said coaches school. Those who live in glass houses...
My bad I had no idea, totally missed out on the row about this forgive me!
It's weird too because 2007 was quite a strong year for Beamerball. The Clemson game alone was more than most teams do in a few years, but our revenge on BC featured at least two blocks I believe as well and Flowers returned an extra point for 2 in that game.
I live relatively close to Atlanta in upstate SC, and I've heard "Jah Tech" but usually people just say GT or mostly, Georgia Tech. The people I know from Georgia usually refer to them as "Tech."
I was about to protest that Beamerball was alive and well in 2007 (see: Clemson)... and then I realized that was almost 10 years ago. Fuck.

Keep scrolling. She came out of hiding for this one.
Oooh, good one.
Newark, New Jersey.
I like the idea, but with schools having to purchase ticket allotments, why do I feel like it's the athletic departments who would end up paying the cost?
well crap, they should ban off campus / out of town practices too.
I understand your idea, but in Memphis, that's not the case. The downtown area around Beale does have a bunch of places to each, but not a single one holds a candle to the Rendezvous' ribs. Most of the mom and pop hole in the wall joints aren't downtown and you'd have to double check with a local to see if it's really worth traveling into that portion of town just to get a taste.
I agree it's a tourist trap, but there's also a reason that nearly every celebrity that hails from Memphis says to go there, has been served by request to numerous Presidents aboard AF1. Yea, it's sometimes hit and miss, but even the misses are still awesome.
Look at that, hard evidence. Comparing overall attendance is definitely really hard, as football as a fraction of the total attendance but more than double the per-game total. I think that looking at stadium numbers probably favors hard-core fandom over total cultural permeance, but it's certainly not the worst placeholder measurement. The %capacity line makes a strong case, thanks for pointing these out.
Seems to me that the opportunity for a high school player to get noticed by colleges is better than ever, even without satellite camps.
This wasn't about getting noticed or general exposure. This was about specific large schools or conferences getting an advantage in recruiting.

It's thinly-veiled recruiting.
