Maybe I'm in the minority of thought here but I was already planning to go to the spring game regardless of being televised. But if I wasn't planning to already, I wouldn't change just because the game won't be on tv. And every Hokie fan I know (outside this site) that wasn't planning to go, wouldn't change their mind just because its not televised. While I'm sure this may push some over the edge to make the trip (especially those more locally), I don't agree that it is a recruiting tool in forcing the hand of people. I DO think its a recruiting tool in that it encourages recruits to come to town, however, its just not as big a deal to the fans as we (the superfans) wish it was. All of that said, I still think we end up with a noticeable larger crowd than years past simply due to the coaching changes and intrigue/excitement surrounding the program right now.

TLDR: Those who were planning to go are still going, most who don't normally go or hadn't thought about it won't change their minds just because it won't be on tv.

It's not the 17-18 year old kid that is making the decision to drive, it's the thousand or so more fans within driving distance that want to attend. Folks like, for instance Hokie Fireman. Folks who would have stayed home to watch it if it was broadcast. Now the large number of recruits who are already in attendance get treated to more fans.

He's not talking about more recruits attending. He's saying that more FANS will attend since they can't watch at home. More fans = better atmosphere for the recruits that will be in attendance.

I have a hard time believing a 17-18 year old would decide to drive to Blacksburg for the Spring game just because they can't watch it on TV. If they are that hardcore about the VT Spring game, they likely already have their mind made up to play for the team.

It absolutely is a recruiting tool to not televise the Spring Game. It basically forces the hand of people who want to watch it to actually attend. Then, the recruits see more fans which improves the atmosphere, shows that fans care about the team, even if it's just the Spring Game, and gives them an idea of what a real game will be like to get them to come back in the Fall for another visit.

Must....resist...joke....

AHHH I can't not do it!...

I hope he's better at catching bad guys than he is at catching two point conversions...

I'm sorry Ernest...

Glad to see Wilford doing well. I was always a fan of his. He used to live in an apartment complex that I volunteered to do after school activities with kids at and he was regularly out playing with the kids along with us just cause he wanted to.

After watching it a dozen or so times, I definitely don't think he was going up for the ball with the intent of what happened. I think most likely he was just hoping to prevent an interception. His body language is more that of a defensive back. He definitely had the awareness and adjustment to make it a spectacular catch, which is more than you can reasonably ask of a walk on.

It does give the program a little unexpected edge or surprise that many shows lack. Did like it when the snotty little sadistic blond boy king (Joffrey) got poisoned.

I agree with you. I just don't think he was intentionally trying to tip it to himself. I think he was just going after the ball and all he could get was a hand on it, but he stayed with it and made the play after the ball was popped into the air.

A lot of times things happen by accident that we, as fans, like to think were intentional. But most of the time the play is happening to fast for the player to make conscious decisions like that. That's where practice and athletic ability take over.

Welcome!
Sounds like one tough lady:
NJCAA Basketball

Here's an older short discussion about her from a UConn fan forum:
'Best high school player in the state"

And here's and interesting quote from another article:

Somers sophomore Diandra DaRosa, stepdaughter of former NFL running back T.J. Duckett, may have been the best kept secret (well at least down this way) in the state this year. DaRosa transferred from Rhode Island and carried Somers into the Class S quarterfinals, where the 5-foot-8 guard scored 30 points in a loss to Capital Prep. Don't expect DaRosa to fly under the radar much longer.

Did you ever think of rescheduling? Maybe move it up to March?

see Wilford got it right: be successful at football then move on to being a good cop.

Mike London, on the other hand...
